In 10.32, my game was able to save.
When I came back after a few hours, I opened up BM2k8 and resumed my game, when it was loading up, it haulted at 90%.
Then it crashes, I haven't tried this with 10.33 yet.
I have only done this one time, and usually don't save during games.

ooh, that's a big one. post the save so we can verify that it's not just your game/computer. Clay and Ian will need the save game in order to fix the problem, anyway.

Added to Known Bugs List.
(I'm going to do this from now on - post when I add a bug to the list. It'll help keep me on top of adding bugs, as well as letting people know it's been added)

Resumé:
Uploaded 10.33 & installed it.Then I tried to open a saved roster file BUT IT "crash dumped" continually (which were sent to SM Forums) as requested;
Tried the same with a new game & same result. So decided to re-use 10.31 but THE game is now TOTALLY corrupted a cannot play at all - either new game or a saved file.:(
Basically what do I do ? E-mail Clay as I can no longer PLAY at all or try & download another patch or re-install the game completely (which is difficult as I bought the downloaded version).....
Below is last Debug file:

oh man whats worse is losing ur flash drive with the roster update throguh texas. now thats worse
Yes,that was "painful" to say the least,ESPECIALLY as I had just edited the WHOLE 6 rounds of the AMATEUR draft.
Basically allocated each team their real drafted 1st,supplemental 1sts & 2nds & then added the real 3 to 9 round draftees to the amateur draft & adjusted their peaks down to reflect their status (top draftee became a 84 peak in the draft) & I had included their DOBs,Height,Weight, colleges, correct batting side/arm etc.
Plus had adjusted all minor leaguers.Oh well!

The most recent debug file is always debug.txt. The backup-debug-#.txt files are the next most recent debug files, going back up to 10 games.
Anyway, you said that you've gone back to 10.31? Does that mean that you saved a copy of bb2k8.exe and deleted the one that comes form 10.33?
You could try deleting mogframe.dat. It may or may not make a difference, as I'm pretty sure the game stores some info there.
Can you upload the save game which caused the crash to occur in the first place, please?

Here & 10.31 does not work either - I was editing in 10.31 BEFORE & THEN introduced 10.33 & the game would neither open roster 2.91 (or any roster for that matter) nor start a new game & basically corrupted the game itself as 10.31 when reloaded does not work now - standard crash dump files sent & debug files etc.....

If you have the game installer, you could reinstall the game. If you don't have the installer file, you can get it by going to the Order Lookup (http://www-1.sportsmogul.com/QueryOrder.pl) page and entering your order number. If you don't have an order number, you'll have to email Clay.
You said that you reloaded 10.31 already though. How did you do that, exactly?

Edit: LOL,I am less "dumb" than I thought I had saved the order no. under "Clay's Name" in his e-mail address will see if it is 2.91 which corrupted the game or if it was a bad patch download....

Well, e-mail Clay. In the mean time, try deleting mogframe.dat and see if that helps.
The save game above opens fine on both 10.31 and 10.33 for me, so there's nothing wrong with the save game file itself at least.
When exactly does it crash for you? While it's loading the file?

Yes.I wanted to check the file worked for 10.33 users as I had finished 90% of the update (missing Texas/Toronto & Washington season stats)...NEVER wanted to open!:(
Oh fun n madness just re-downloaded BM08 setup & that wont open because the file is "corrupt" (10.17 Version!)

Do this for me. Close Mogul (if it isn't already), Open Mogul and choose "start new game". If it gets to the new game, click file -> Resume game and choose that save file.
After it crashes, whenever it does, post the debug.txt file here (not any of the backup-debug files, the regular debug.txt)

I'm not sure where to go from here then. The save game still works for me, so don't trash it or anything. Hopefully, someone will have an idea that will work.

EXACT wording of the InstallAware Warning - Cannot start setup - the set up file may be corrupt,or you may have the wrong password. If you downloaded this file, please download a fresh copy.If the file is password protected, check the password & try again.
I have done it twice with BM08 & it says that.
Just to check I tried with BM07 setup & download & it worked fine....

Well... the Mogul 2008 install file is larger. All I can recommend is to give it another shot.

Michell send me an e-mail to

I need your first name, last name and the e-mail to you got the game back with.
As for other users giving you a copy, that would violate copyright laws.

I was entering stuff in for a sim league and I went to save it before I did anything, I saved it as Sim league but then when I was done entering stuff in, I saved it under the same name and the file crashed. I tried it once more and it did the same thing. I dont know if it was a bug or if it wasnt, just very frustrating.

You're right that it's hard to tell if this is a bug with Mogul or something else.
Because saved game files can get corrupted (for many reasons, including problems with Windows or other programs), we added a feature this year that automatically saves a backup version of your file whenever you save a game. So if you notice that a file is corrupted or won't load, you can look for a file with the same name but the word "BACKUP" in front.
This doesn't fix the problem you mentioned, but it's worth knowing about.

Thanks for the response, other people in the league tried the same thing, and it did exactly the same thing but I will try the backup file. Thanks Clay.

Just please keep in mind that Backups are just that. They back up your data so that if you discover a problem you can roll back to a point (hopefully) prior to the problem occuring and thereby avoid it in the first place. Backups don't actually solve anything, their just an easy method to work around problems.
To everyone: If you need to use a backup, you should report the reasons why (unless it's something obvious, like "I accidentally deleted my save game"... ;)).

I think I've run into the same problem as BrewCrew. When I try to resume the game, I get a message that it cannot open the mog file. Can't delete it either.
The pop-up message says I can delete the mog file manually, but I can't find the Baseball Mogul files on my (Vista OS) computer. The program runs so it's there somewhere, but the install procedure doesn't put the files in any of the normal/accepted locations. Search can't find them either. The shortcut on my desktop aims at files in an "AppData" folder in my user folder ... except there's no such folder in my user folder.
Oh well. Back to BM08 for me. I know better than to buy software when it first comes out, but I just couldn't resist this time.

From the Mogul Help menu, you can choose "Open Game Folder"

Actaully there is a 'save' bug. When 'resuming a game' I noticed that each file is listed twice is the window where you can choose which save you want to load.
If you delete one of the files, the other one will not open as says it doesn't exist even though its still there. You basically have to leave the two identiacal files for one to open.

One of them is a backup file. If you delete the regular one (ie. not the backup), the backup won't open unless you remove the - BACKUP from the file name in Windows Explorer...

I actually just had this happen as well. I tried to save over a previously existing game after making some roster changes. After I clicked "Save" the BM screen just froze before the "Save Progress" popup showed up. I eventually had to go to task manager and manually quit the program after about five minutes of inactivity.
The weirdest thing is that when I reopened that file, every team had its Home City in the League Editor changed one city down on the list. For example, Cleveland had its Home City changed to College Station and Detroit had its Home City changed to Duluth. Freaked me out for a while as I couldn't figure out why Cleveland had a payroll budget of only 6 million. A really bizarre bug/fluke/whatever. But it did all start with a failed save over an existing file.

This seems like a dumb question, considering you can now buy 500 gigabyte hard drives. But is it possible that your hard drive is almost full? You'd need about 15 megabytes of free space to save both the game file and the backup copy of the game file.
WHAK0985
03-26-2008, 08:23 PM
Well it's not exactly full as I have over 4 GB left, but that's out of 150 GB.
I just had it happen to me twice in the past five minutes, but I can't seem to isolate under what conditions it happens. I'm trying to verify it, but it seems to happen when I resume a saved game, make some changes, and then save that game under a different name than the original saved game.
I'll keep fiddling around to find a pattern.

I apologize if this isnt the right format for this issue that I have.
Here are the details of my machine
Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU 3.4GHz
RAM: 2GB
System Type: Vista 32 bit Operating System
Graphics card: im not sure but its okay
Anyways here is the issue that I have that makes this game unplayable for me. The game will become non responsive at almost anytime during the season. I have to save once a week so I dont lose much data. In turn when this happens I have to do a hard boot because I can't close out the game. All I hear is the last sound the game made. This has gone on since 10.31.
The times I can close out BBM I have to use Task manager to close out the game. With this issue I can click anywhere on BBM but only hear a "ding" from windows. This issue has only been going on since I bought BBM 09.
Now the only thing I really can help narrow down is the fact this issue only happens on my vista machine. Doesn't seem to happen with XP. But I rarely use an XP machine.
Let me know what you need attached so we can try to get this resolved.
Because as of right now the game is completely unplayable for me. I love BBM and have been supporting BBM since 06. This is the first time I have had such a big issue.
I have attached the debug file as well as my mog file.
Thanks for you help
Tony

I believe I have tracked down the problem. I was able to reproduce the crash/freeze again so I think I know how it is caused, for me at least.
Everytime my game crashed, it was always when I was saving a game after running the single season simulator. It didn't matter what I did before running the simulator or what I did afterwards, the game always froze when I tried saving over a file after running the single season simulator.

I've had things similar happen. A couple times when I went to save the game kind of locked up and then also i've had it do the same thing when clicking on the League button. I played BM 2k8 and 2k7 alot and it never happened so I'm sure its not my computer.

I Dunno if this helps. But when editting a playing starting with 10.34 the game would also freeze when editing a player. I would also have to do a hard reboot when I attempted to edit a player. But at this point I still cant play BBM 09 ):
