View Full Version : 11.04 Box score pitcher(s) become corrupt

My game with the Phillies goes 16 innings, and when I look at the box score, all of the Phillies' pitchers are X's. They all have a .123 batting average, 1.23 ERA, and "their" record is 123-123. Now, I know that all Major League pitchers are embarrassed to be on the Philadelphia Phillies, but it would be nice if they'd at least expose themselves so I can tell them apart. I could understand this error if I was playing the Pittsburgh Pirates, but not the Phillies. See below.

Thanks for posting this. This is another one of those issues that keeps recurring.
What seems to be happening is that this occurs when all (or "too many" of) the pitchers in the bullpen are used and/or something to do with the usage of pinch hitters.

Thanks for that info, ohms. That makes sense. If the AI would stop using so many senseless pinch-hitters, they wouldn't run out. On top of the image is the last of the second basemen, and there were EIGHT players who either played second base or pinch-hit for the second basemen. A player gets one at-bat, is pinch hit for, a defensive replacement is brought in, he's pinch hit for, another defensive replacement, etc. Crazy!

-i simulated the game
-it's September so there are expanded rosters but i can assure you i have no players by that name :p

I dunno what you're complaining about. XXXXXXXX looks like he did really well! He really earned that 123rd win!

This may be unrelated, but I'm improving the pinch hit AI in 11.11. Namely, the computer now puts more weight on saving important defensive bench players (like the backup catcher), and puts less weight on pinch-hitting in extra innings.

Until injuries happen during the game there is really no reason for the AI to save the backup catcher - in many situations there is no possibility that they will be needed to catch. Adjusting the AI in this direction just further disadvantages the computer teams - at least until the injury system is revised to include in-game injuries.

Also, I'm only protecting the 'backup catcher' if he's the last bench player left who can catch. If you also have someone like Kevin Youkilis on the bench, then the game will burn the backup catcher if it thinks it would be helpful.
