OK, basically here is the story.

Pet Store sells Hamster with disease to Woman A.
Woman A gets disease (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/spb/mnpages/dispages/lcmv/qa.htm) and dies (of stroke).
Woman A's diseased organs are harvested.
Woman B's Husband gets Woman A's liver.
Woman B's Husband dies from disease from Woman A's liver and dies.
Woman B sues Pet Store.

Now, it should be common sense that an animal that sells for under $10 has not had a thorough examination. That's not even the biggest problem with this, though.

I saw this story earlier this morning myself... gotta love lawyers.

I guess they have to move fast on these things, but do hosptials normally "part someone out" without being sure of the cause of death? The article I read didn't mention the age of the woman who's organs got harvested, but unless she was elderly, wouldn't someone at the hospital thought her dying of stroke was a bit odd? I'm surprised the ambulance chaser lawyers didn't go after the hospital. To my mind, they seem more culpable in the recipients death than the pet store was who's merchandise killed the donor. I mean, I would expect that if I were receiving an organ donation (or a blood transfusion or anything else they're gonna put in me) the hospital would've done some due diligence that they were safe to use.

Yea, me too. I'm waiting to see more about this, although I suspect that by the time anything more is found out that the news outlets will have lost any interest in the story...

Bizarre...that's pretty much the only word to describe the way that her husband ended up dying. SOMEBODY at an HMO is about to get fired, because they screwed up BAD.

As for the lawsuit...actually, my question is, why isn't this woman suing the hospital? Or the medical provider?

That would make too much sense

Maybe the ambulance chaser she hired figure PetSmart would be more likely to bribe her to go away. I mean, settle out of court.
