View Full Version : 11.08 Catcher Fielding does not improve enough during development

I'm not sure if this really qualifies as a bug, but due to the huge effect the Fielding rating of catchers has on pitching, I think it's necessary to fix. You can sort of see it by comparing a young catcher's current and peak ratings. The Fielding rating doesn't update due to another bug, but you can see that there is barely any change in the catcher's predicted Errors and Passed Balls, the two stats that primarily control Fielding. I simmed out a few years, and the young catchers barely had any improvement in their fielding rating.

I think that it is imperative that catcher's have a good improvement in their Fielding rating as they develop.

At least as long as fielding has such a major impact on pitching I agree. An experienced, veteran catcher should be MUCH better at controlling the game and helping his staff than a relative newcomer.

So True but also difficult to actually program no ? (Isnt this one of the reasons a lot of teams have .220 BA catchers rather than "Eric Munson-Jake Fox" behind the plate).

Make it so that predicted Errors and Passed Balls decrease more than they currently do as the player ages towards his peak.

That is by editing (ie human interference) but as yet not (that I know of & Clay/Ian/Ohms could enlighten us) actually in the sim qualifications ;)

We can't do anything about how much the errors/passed balls decrease. Right now, they barely decrease, thus, the fielding rating barely increases. Clay could fix this.

On that note, I was wondering whether catchers' fielding skills should even wield such influence over pitching performances in the first place. It has always seemed a little much to me, so I was just wondering what you thought.

I agree that it's way too much. At any rate, though, the improvement rate for pre-peak players needs to be increased, ESPECIALLY considering the current effect the Fielding rating has.
