View Full Version : 11.19 Opposing pitchers mixed up mid-game

I don't know exactly how to describe this.

I was playing as the Royals against the White Sox on April 9. Gavin Floyd was the starting pitcher. After 6 innings, Floyd came back for the 7th. Then, the name changed to John Danks, and the ratings switched to Danks's. Danks started on April 5th, so he is tired. The game stats continued right from where Floyd left off. Pitch count, ER, K, BB, everything. On the recap and box score, all instances of Gavin Floyd were replaced with John Danks, from the beginning of the game.

Gavin Floyd's scouting report stats stopped after 6.2 innings. The game was not added to his game log:

Danks' one inning worth of stats got added to his stats, but he wasn't given a second game pitched. He got creditted with the win, and the full game was added to his game log:

As you can see, the stats are all whacky.

I have absolutely no idea what caused this. This was the computer's team. I didn't make any substitutions when it happened. As I said, the box score and game recap do not mention Floyd at all.

This was my 8th game in manager mode in the season. All other games went smoothly. This is really perplexing me.

I have no idea if this is possibly related to the bug. I reloaded this game to the last time I saved (two days earlier). When I got to April 9th, I saw that the White Sox have John Danks scheduled as their next starter, despite his 1 day of rest needed (which is reasonable, it happens). This time, when I went into the game (Manager mode), they used Danks.

Is it possible that they attempted to switch to Floyd prior to the game, and signals got crossed somewhere or something?

I'm just speculating here, trying to figure this one out.

humm... That's possible I guess. At least it's something to work from.

The White Sox "next pitcher" markers got messed up somewhere. After the April 9th game, they had Jose Conteras (third in the rotation, in front of Danks who is 4th) listed as the starter for April 10th, even though he pitched April 8th...

Play-by-play and simmed games use the same code. So you should be able to reproduce this bug in a simmed game, unless it's being caused by something you are doing in play-by-play (for example, maybe you put in a relief pitcher and the game got confused and thought the computer team was putting in a new pitcher).

If you have a saved game where we can repro it, that would be a big help. I've tried to reproduce this and haven't had any luck so far.

Yeah, I haven't seen it again either. I've played 20 games now in Manager mode, and this is the only time it's happened. I don't have that game saved anymore, as I reloaded prior to when this occurred, but I don't believe I made any changes to my team in the inning immediately prior to when this occurred. If I do see it again, I'll be sure to post.

My best guess is some sort of confusion with the unique player IDs. Maybe your universe has a corruption where two players have the same ID and so they are getting confused in mid-game. In any case, I assume you're using your database. I'd keep trying to reproduce it with the White Sox, because it might be a bug that only occurs with Floyd and/or Danks since I haven't seen anyone else report it (and it's pretty serious so you'd think it would have multiple reports if it occurred with the default database).

Well, I played through a game against them with Danks pitching and it didn't occur. I'll try and reproduce it in a game with Floyd when I get around to it.

I just had this happen again, except, it was a little different.

Jeff Bennett started the game for the Braves against me. With 2 outs in the 5th inning, they brought Royce Ring in. Ring was due to hit next, and he did hit, made an out. Next inning, Jeff Bennett is back on the mound, with .1 inning pitched. I checked the box score, and it shows Jo-Jo Reyes as having pitched 4.2 innings, and Jeff Bennett with .1 inning, and the recap shows Jeff Bennett batting when Royce Ring did.

This is the first game I've played since loading my saved game, so I'm going to finish out this game and then save it separately and reload the original game and see if it happens again...

I checked to see if the same thing that happened last time with Danks and Floyd was present here - a starter listed to pitch despite needing rest, and it WASN'T the case. Bennett was listed as the next starter and was fully rested.

Really weird...This is the first time I've seen this happen since I posted this thread, and I've played about 3 full seasons in manager mode at this point.

EDIT: I replayed the game, and this did NOT happen..
