View Full Version : 11.13 Catchers play too many games

In real life, it's a special thing to have a catcher that can catch 140+ games a year, and 150+ is exceedingly more rare. Most catchers that spend the full year starting start roughly 120-130 games. A handful catch 130, while few catch 140.
In Mogul, about half of the catchers every year catch 140 games, with a handful going over 150.

I agree. There is no way in heck thay Jorge Posada is going to catch 152 games at age 36. If you let it sim, he does just that. The game just hasn't put any weight on Catchers tiring vs. lets say LF.
I think the whole players tiring system needs an upgrade. The only way to get some of my bench players in is to play PbP or have an injury.

I tend to agree, though I'd like to see the tired players thing worked out first (or in conjunction with this). If this happens first than it'll lead to a lot more Catcher injuries.

I think that this can be adjusted without touching the tired system, really. Just make it so that the AI gives catchers more days off. *shrug*
It was either 2k7 or 2k8, I forget, and I Had posted this. It was adjusted and for a while the results were good and then at some point, it creeped back into the game..

My fear is if you just make the AI lose it's starting Catcher left without also making Catchers more proned to fatigue injuries, than you're just giving a competitive balance to the human player. They won't have a need to follow the AI's lead and start their Catcher a realistic number of times.

A couple of seasons ago, one of my catcher's caught 161 games I think? He took off one game, and it wasn't because injury. And I had my settings to "rest always"

I think that just have catchers tire more quickly than position players would fix this.

Ozzie Guillen is the mayor of making catchers play 150+ games a year.

i once raised Ausmus through the farm system, when he was starting in the majors, he missed 7 games over 5 seasons. I know Ausmus is durable, but really.

and as a result of this, backup catchers only get about 30 at bats.

This is the games played for Craig Biggio in a BBM 2008 game I've been playing.

I know this has been talked about before, but it isn't better with 11.13, at least for historical sims...
Roy Campanella has played 154, 153, and 154 games the last three years. He's making Cal Ripken, Jr. look like a wimp, since those were at catcher!
His health rating is a 95, but that's a bit extreme.

I don't think (all) catchers' health ratings need to be decreased, because you do have a lot of healthy catchers. It's just the rate at which they tire should be increased.

Definitely a problem.
Although the catcher problem sticks out like a sore thumb, it goes beyond that.
In my current dynasty, I have some backup IFs that only end up with 10 at-bats in an entire SEASON, and play about 20 to 40 innings over the entire season.
There should be a slider setting for every player on the team (both position players and pitchers) to tell the computer how much they should play or pitch. Even what situations they should be used in (maybe each bench position has their own "defensive sub" slider as well as a "pinch hitting" and "pinch running" slider)...

There should be a slider setting
Why does there need to be a slider setting, though?
Everything else you talked about makes perfect sense to me, but I don't see the need for any sort of slider.
