Takes a second to get put up.

I don't use it.

Nor do I. I can barely tolerate the 'new' crowd sounds, the ambience is just too much for me.

Yeah me too I disable them also

I use it...it's tone indicates to me when a vital blow has been struck, i.e. someone has hit safely when it isn't immediately apparent, visually...the crowd's roar seems to vary, subtly, depending on the enormity of the hit, the volume highest, of course when the ball is on its way over the fences.

Tied in with this, is the call of the umpire...usually, this is the first intimation to me of a strike...I'm writing. now, of versions 07 & 08.

Yes, it's cool, but like, it's so **** loud! It overpowers everything else on my computer so I can't listen to music or even hear MSN/AIM alerts when it's on. Very annoying.

I turn it off so I can listen to music on iTunes while I play BBM.

I like the sounds of the game way better than 2008

See I don't multi-task when playing BM. I just play BM!

I started using it when I first bought BBM 2009, but after its inconsistency (cheering at the wrong times, not cheering at other times, etc.), I disabled it. I love the idea of it though.

I have it on, but most of the time I don't have my headphones on anyway. Honestly though it's so unbelievably loud sometimes that I don't need to wear my phones to be able to hear what's going on.

I do when I'm not listening to music.. When I'm listening to music I'll turn it off..

It works fine in BMs 07 & 08...

How does it differ from the crowd reactions in 07 & 08?...from the comments so far, in this thread, I gather that it is more intrusive...

Crowd Ambience is a constant crowd noise in the background that you can toggle on or off. With it off, you still have crowd cheers, but they just happen once each play instead of being on as a constant background noise.

I see...thank you, Houston...that leads me to think about crowd ambience, generally...I've never been to a pro baseball game, so I don't know what I'm missing, but I remember that I loved the old soccer crowds back in U.K. (in the 40's & 50's, before they got ugly), the anthems and the rattles...great atmosphere.

Best of all though, was being in a cricket crowd (as a Londoner, I was privileged to visit the two meccas of Lords, and the Oval). There was always someone nearby who really knew their cricket, and their running commentary was added entertainment...

This isn't running commentary. This is more "GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" for nine innings, punctuated by an occasional cheer when the play-by-play sound manages to break through.

I'm finally (reluctantly) adjusting to the new sounds for the play-by-play, but I was happier with the 07/08 version.

I leave it on for pretty much the same reason.

On a related note, anyone else miss the "sliding" sound effect on a steal attempt?

I think it sounds more like "YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
But I still like it!

You're pulling our (leading) leg, aren't you? I've never heard this in BM07 or 8 (mind you, I'm pretty deaf)

Nope.

Anyone else care to back me up on this?

Ah...I see it now, StreetM...you were referring to the squealing of brakes!

I love the idea of it though.

I love the idea of it, too, but to be honest it doesn't have enough variety, and after 20 games or so I get tired of it. And just like scenery, it needs to be different for every ballpark, too, because the way it is now, once you've heard it 10 times, you've pretty much memorized it.

Yep, there was definitely a sliding sound. Kinda like a "Pssshhhhhht!" :)

I'm still new to BM 2009, but so far, I love it...it's almost as good as IRL baseball

So that's why I don't hear it (still playing 07 and 08), my ears are tuned to sounds like "Brrrrmmmm"

Never use it, sound loop is annoying and to repetitive.

I never touched it and just left it on. I don't play that many games in PBP but it doesn't seem to bother me. It might if I played all my games that way I guess.

I was ok with it for awhile, but the sameness of it and that really loud burst of obnoxious noise you get occasionally started to annoy the **** out of me, much like listening to CNN or MSNBC or CBS News. So I shut it off.

Having played an awful lot of games in PBP, manager mode in BOTH versions, it is my firm belief that sound took a turn for the worse in this version. I could stand the sound in BM2008 over and over and over. This one, not so much.

Just turn off crowd ambience. The regular sounds are pretty much the same.

Oh, yeah, did that some time ago. ;)

First, I did play with some sound effect settings but they just seemed, I dunno, too deep, or something. Don't know how to explain it except it really was annoying. Thank goodness the new sounds also came with the new box to turn them off with.
