View Full Version : Changing the Pitcher Slot in Lineup Order

Recent studies have shown that batting the pitcher eighth can add up to 3 or 4 runs per year to a team's production. In Mogul, the pitcher slot is fixed at ninth in the batting order, without any flexibility. This seems like it could be remedied fairly easily. If possible, I'd like to be able to move the pitcher's slot in the batting order.

If you're playing in play-by-play, you can move the pitcher slot using the pre-game lineup dialog.

True, but it would be nice for it to be possible to do so even when not playing in PBP.

Tony LaRussa does it. I don't like it.

But knicks is right about the recent studies, and I wouldn't mind being able to monkey with it without having to watch/play every single game. Since it CAN be manipulated within the PbP dialogue, it shouldn't be too hard to port this over to the main lineup screen.

Is it possible to use a pitcher as a pinch hitter?

No. See Pitchers as Pinch Hitters and Pinch Runners (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=177426)

I agree. I've always kind of been of this school of thought. When constructing my lineups in Mogul I tend to bat OBP/Speed guys 1 and 2, the big boppers 3-5/6, big power but poor average/OBP/contact guys, 6/7-8, and have another OBP hitter hitting 9th.

I always have a second leadoff type guy batting ninth with the DH, but I lose that in the NL.

Recent studies have also shown that each win comes to about 10 extra runs. So a 3 or 4 run advantage will only buy you .3 or .4 extra wins per year. Even if you run a 30 year dynasty, this will only result in about 10 extra wins or so.

I do like the idea, however of being able to switch which spot the pitcher bats in.

So, is it a bug report that there aren't 40-man rosters, option years, Rule V draft, waivers, etc.? A bug is something that is broken in the code and not operating as it should. This is a suggestion, as everything regarding it is operated as planned.

Pretty clearly an AI suggestion. Agree with Ohms that it doesn't qualify as a bug, more of an unimplemented feature.

Probably a reasonable idea to have in there. A good time to put it in would probably be whenever the pitcher/hitter numbers carried is changed. Having the pitcher locked into the 9th spot is probably part of the same structure.

Mis-attribution noted. Apologies. This is what happens when you post at the end of a long day. In any case, I agree.
