Nope, not going to happen.
:)
See, those numbers aren't acurate. HGM actually usually posts quite a bit more than I do. The problem is that the forum comes up with that number simply by doing Post count/days. Most people (including HGM) have a significant period of time where they hardly post or eevn don't post at all before they begin posting. I didn't though, which is why my posts per day is so gaudy. It's actually fairly accurate for me, but it's completely inaccurate for HGM and most other people.

Once again, it was the BMO USERS THEMSELVES asking for the old leagues to be deleted. I've skimmed some of those threads, and I don't recall you ever saying that the old dead leagues shouldn't be removed.

That's sort of what kicked this all off you know... About two or three weeks ago I went through and soft deleted all of the pure post padding threads. Then I automated posting a bunch of post padding posts myself, which ended up screwing up the forums and my post count in particular (among others).

Here's a thought, spend hours and hours on the forums answering questions and posting legitimate topics instead.
Anyway, the forums are connected to BMO. If a BMO league is actually deleted, then the forums that the league is connected to must be deleted. If that doesn't happen, then there's going to be a bunch of null pointers, which are a huge problem.

Very true... that's why I put "All Time Greats" in quotation marks, because quantity does not necessarily equal quality. And I only decided to do this after I already read those two other threads complaining about how internet message board posts were deleted - beyond pathetic (the complaining that is). Plus, statistics are fun.
In terms of rating the "quality" of the post, something similar could be done like how we rate the threads. This way, if you want to post "lol I agree" on threads, then your rating would naturally be lowered. Majority rules. Same thing applies to essentially repeating exactly what the poster above you already said when answering somebody's question. Obviously that won't happen though.
As for anybody who lost a large number of posts, just think of it as getting caught up in the "post-count enhancing drug scandal". Your post count now is how the voters perceive you compared to your formerly inflated post counts. :D

To be fair the major LOSS of posts was the deletion of the "Countdown"/Word Association threads NOT the BMO threads....BUT who cares really ??
I would have preferred a "clean up" like Ohms' did when Beta was around (when he merged 2 similar/identical threads)
THE MAJOR problem for me (& most users I assume) is that there are multiple threads on the EXACT same subject with varying titles- I would prefer them to be INTER LINKED so the user can easily find the right info.

Me too, but... well for one thing that would be a lot of work. For another, doing that kind of stomps on people's ability to express themselves. Sometimes it's just easier to start a new thread. There's also some ego involved in starting a thread, for some people anyway. Probably most importantly, even though threads may be on the same subject, they often follow their own individual conversational flow. Merging them tends to make the conversation appear choppy and can be really confusing.

None of those threads were deleted. They were only temporarily deleted, and have since been restored. The original mess up came when ohms made a post count thread via a bot, and then that thread was copied multiple times, probably overloading the boards.
As Dee said, the only threads being deleted right now are old, dead BMO leagues.

So I WAS right the 3 threads WERE deleted & are the MAIN cause of the loss of the posts (because Boomboom/Nuzzy et al all POSTED quite heavily there)
THANKS for not admitting you were wrong HGM,sometimes saying 'I am sorry I was wrong' would help the perception of the community toward you (& other mods) it always an excuse or a redirection of the argument rather than a simple apology - gets quite frustrating for us "simple" posters.:(

You stated I was WRONG & they existed (#post 46) & only SEMI ADMITTED that they didnt AFTER I repointed out :
1) they didnt show in "search" &
2) they didnt exist anymore
All this the same day (06/02)----------- so the same day they are soft deleted-undeleted & then Re-deleted ---------by the BMPostfaerie....
btw when you write "it seems"--- that is not an admission of error but rather a NON admission of error or a denial of involvement, when it was clearly shown between posts #42 & #52 they DID not exist even when you replied in post #46.
But anyways it is not important & again it was NOT a personal attack upon you but your replies gave out "false"/errored information (although more than likely because you didn't even know yourself) concerning specifically the 3 threads in Ejections especially when else where it was posted:
About two or three weeks ago I went through and deleted all of the pure post padding threads. Then I automated posting a bunch of post padding posts myself, which ended up screwing up the forums and my post count in particular (among others).
Anyhows as I said PP is fun for some & really unimportant considering all the VALUABLE work you & your mod friends actually do on the forum to help BM users.

No, that did not happen all in the same day. I didn't check to see if they were there when I made post 46, because I remember them being there, and then later in the day when you pointed out that they weren't, I checked, and they weren't there. They didn't get deleted-undeleted in the same day. They were deleted a while ago by ohms, restored by ohms, and then removed by somebody else at some unknown point, that neither ohms nor I was aware of.

Personally, if it's that much of a problem, I'd prefer one or both of the following:
a) A forum for threads like Word Association that posts do not count in.
b) Spam rules. Blatant post-padding results in warnings, X amount of warnings results in a suspension, another X amount of warnings results in a ban.
Clearly, the overwhelming majority of people like having the post count shown, so I think removing it entirely would upset a large portion of the forum population. However, since this post padding is getting pretty ridiculous, there are other options to control it without removing post counts entirely.

I think this is a great idea regardless, and ejections is perfect for it. I'll look into how to do it, and send that info as well.
b) Spam rules. Blatant post-padding results in warnings, X amount of warnings results in a suspension, another X amount of warnings results in a ban.
Clay and Dee just won't go for it, and I don't particularly like the idea anyway. If there's a place where posts don't count, that's good enough for me.
As for post counts themselves, simply removing the display from the postbit doesn't turn off the counts anyway. The members list will still be there, for one thing. Not displaying the count simply makes post counts (appropriately) less important. I think that it's an elegant solution and Dee seems willing to do it, she just doesn't know php.

I'm pretty sure vBulletin has a simple option on the forum options for each subforum whether or not to count posts.
However, I wouldn't say Ejections should be made post-count-free. There are legitimate threads for Ejections that don't belong elsewhere - politics, jokes, etc. A subforum of Ejections for post-pad-esque games would be the ideal solution, I think. We'd just have to move the "offending" threads from ejections into the subforum.

I'm not the biggest post-padder out there, sorry. Two threads that are games is all I "pad" in. I don't create threads for the sole purpose of posting, and just post and post and post nothing just to increase my post count.
I'm not seeing what's "ironic" though. The outrageous amount of pointless post-padding threads is ridiculous, but the Word Association thread, and other similar threads, still have a purpose - they're games. So, if anything was done about "post padding", I'd still want those threads to be there, because they're ... games.

I don't care if the posts are counted or not. I truly mean no offense to anyone here, but this thread has become like watching a couple of 5 year olds fight over a cookie.
You've got to admit that it's somewhat entertaining, at least.

Man this is like a train wreck...the carnage is horrible but you can't turn away. You know you'll regret it later!
How about all the PP threads get merged into one and then people can post in that one thread to their hearts content?

It's HGM, and no I don't play in online leagues, but what in the world does that have to do with anything? leave you alone? When have I ever gone into any online leagues forums?

TNP, let me seriously ask you a question (and anyone else who feels like chiming in, feel free). I'm not mocking or acusing here at all, I'd honestly like to know.
What, to you, is the appeal to increasing your post count? What do you see as being so beneficial to having a higher post count that you're willing to resort to post padding?

honestly... i really have no idea. i NEVER padded until this whole thing were we started losing posts. then it just was to get my posts back and turned into a big thing. When im on a message board i GENERALY feel if I get an answer from someone with 10,000 post and 100 posts that i most likely will be talking to someone who knows more with the 10,000.
Thats not to say the 100 post counter doesnt know anything in fact he could be right and the 10,000 person could be TOTALY wrong like in the BM questions thread when someoen had an answered and HGM (NOT HGH dabruins :p) gave an incorrect answer (not poking fun its just an example it happes *shrug*). I have been here for what seams like forever (I can't remember pre-BM days actualy) and it SEEMS the more posts you have the more you know... so when posts start dissapearing of if they are removed COMPLETELY how are new people to tell who REALLY knows there stuff? Not to say guys with smaller counts don't know or inept but I dont think its a good idea. i LOVE the idea of BMO aodn BM having different forums tho. Because as noted before... IN BMO it shows you are active.

Why does there need to be a logical, tangible reason? How about because we like them? Why does it bother you so much people like post counts is the question I woud like answered. Why did it bug you so much you just had to ask why people what's benefical to them? I mean dude, drop it already. We already know your stance and the shining fact of the matter is - we don't need a reason. Nope, not a single one. I
I also find this bordering on repetition because I believe boomboom has answered this before. Seriously - people like post count counts; they dont hurt anyone - doesn't that tell you that the best course of action is to drop it and leave it alone? There are many other pressing relevant issues on this forum, so why not worry about something important instread of trying to basically be a jerk to people because for some reason, you cant figure out that post counts make them happy and that should be enough reason.

i dont know if that was ment but it sounded like an attack on ohms... he is just trying to MODERATE i think... at least that how i took it :p

I don't know why Sports Mogul is going through a rough time,(besides the reccession) BM2k9 is the best game to date from SM. I would have loved to see more support for BMO, like an upgrade. Hopefully that will come soon, but it is only Dee and Clay right now. So BMO will not be worked on. They don't even like BMO (I swear). But BMO isn't a money cash cow as with BM2k9. Enlight is doing a bad job getting this game into stores this year...so WDIK?)
Dee told me to drop post counts, so I will, (she wasn't very nice about it). I guess they really do need to reduce the on board memory or something. If it means an Upgrade to BMO, then I am all for it but the problem is, there isn't going to be an upgrade to BMO, without Ian.

guarenteed $5 EVERY TIME SOMEONE signs up

True. But when it cost $6 bucks just to get $5. that is called a bad investiment. Hopefully thou, Clay will have the resources to spill more money into BMO. Right now things are not as strong as they have been in the past.
Sports Mogul works in cycle, with 2k7 and 2k8 everything was great, with 2k4- everything sucked (publisher didn't pay them) ... 2k5-2k6- got a little beter....
2k9, well it looks the publisher isn't all the ball this year, last year it was in stores by Opening day.
I am closing this thread because Dee told me to drop everything about post counts. So who cares right?
