I know Clay is in charge, but I think it would be a cool idea to elect a forum president. They could have a vice president run with them. I think if we got 5-6 parties running tht would be good. Whatta you guys think? I have no clue what the president would do, but I just thought it sounded neat
p.s
I may run, but i dont know.
I don't think it's a good idea at all.
There are administrators and moderators, and the rest of us are just members of the forum with no one more important than anyone else. New people come in all the time, other people drift away. I see absolutely no value in an official popularity contest among whatever snapshot of BM players happen to be visiting the forum at any particular time.

We could just have a hypothetical election for the heck of it...
I'll run...
metsguy234

Note: Since we cant give any "special powers" to the President, it'll be just like a kid being class president, a nice title, but only a negligible amount of actual power.

If Nominated I will Run, If Elected I will fall out of my seat in shock.....
No I am thinking of forming an exploratory committee to check the viability of my potential campaign and to test my support without my actually having to declare my candidacy unless I am sure to have a large enough support base of likely voters who we know are more likely to vote than registered BM voters who may just answer poll questions but not vote. Though we know only 50% of polls are accurate we know that 75% of those 50% don't tell the truth and 62% of them could care less. The other 38% do care and 100% of them are sure 5% are lying.

I'll run unopposed I'm fine with that :)
RickD
06-22-2008, 07:09 PM
Well if I can find a sucker.....er....I mean a committed person to run my exploratory campaign then I may in the future decide to throw my hat in the ring but I would want to do that in a popular thread as well with a host and all.

Mike Announces his Candidacy
Today, Mike (Metsguy234) announced his intention to run for Sports Mogul Forums President. He delivered a speech to his laptop earlier:
"Hello laptop, I'd like to announce my candidacy for Sports Mogul Forums President. Please inform the masses."
Mike is running as a National League fan, and is attempting to win the candidacy of the NL Party.
We should so do this. We could have primaries for American League fans and National league fans, maybe a few would run as independents. Then we could pick running mates and campaign. Overall, it should only take up 3 threads (we could do it in Ejections). I think it's a fun thing to do, as long as we dont get carried away.
RickD
06-22-2008, 07:42 PM
Well I believe I am a unifier. If I could unite say a Red Sox Fan behind me showing I can cross the AL divide....I don't know I am waiting to see if there is interest from the voters....

We should set campaign rules first.....before the advertising.....length of campaign....how do we tally votes....debates.....
RedsoxRockies
06-22-2008, 09:46 PM
ok, how long do you propose. I think a week or two. As for votes, either a live AIM chat, a Poll, or a thread devoted to votes. I think we should have a thread or two for debates

I'm considering representing the ultra conservative, far left liberals as a candidate from the Texas League. Sounds funny, me being from New England, and running as a Texan, but it could work.
My platfom will include such hot button topics as:
Shortening the work week to 4 days, so that families can spend more time together.
Extending work days to 10 hours so that my constituents will have more purchasing power.
Adding the DH to both leagues to provide more offense.
Eradicating the shortstop position in order to provide more offense.
Eradicating soap, in order to provide more offense.
Deciding tie All-Star games with a round of billiards. Home team chooses the game.
I'll push for Fluffernutter and beer meal deals at at all MLB concession stands.
Speel chek for all BM members.
Christmas stockings for Sunni's.
I'll also push for Vans slip-ons for all center fielders and basepath speedsters. Finally completely doing away with the running game.
Vote for the Texas League candidate! Were independant, we're waffling, and we're for sale!
Have a nice day! :)

I'm a moderator, so you know that you all can trust me to do the right thing. :)
I'm a wooden headed dum dum, so I have something in common with a Louisville Slugger, wooden heads.
I can be bought cheaply, therefore my presidency will remain open to even the most common man.
No pesky VP (yet), which will keep the cost of bribery and corruption substantially lower.
No scandals. I'll immediately remove any and all posts (with my substantial moderator super powers) which will implicate me in any sort of wrongdoing, past, present, and future, keeping you all blissfully unaware of my glaring faults.
I've never stolen candy from a baby, and if presented with the opportunity, I'd certainly weigh the risk to reward ratio before deciding upon a course of action.

When the concept of an NL/AL election was first brought forth I thought it would be interesting and a fun idea. However it has quickly gotten out of control with more parties and so many threads I've lost count. Due to Real Life busyness though I will have to bow out of the AL party and the Veep Position effective immediately. I just don't have the Real Life time to devote to this growing cause. I wish RedSxoRockies well in the AL election. It was fun, however I am out. Again this is only due to RL needs right now.

- Programming and QA experience, great for board issues, bug testing and finding, even code review
- Member of the forum Community since I first bought BM'07
- Experience in local government (served on my HomeOwner's Association Board of Directors)
- Excellent grammar
- Calm and cool - never one to instigate fights, more often mediating them on these ferocious forums
- Environmentally friendly, drives a Prius, recycles, takes public transit
- Financial Advisor, great with stocks, investments, accounting and personal budgeting
- Musician, so not only do I know a good instrument and how to use it, but I use both sides of the brain - math and arts
Man...come to think of it...I'm so great, I should just run myself.
