I agree, I had '05, and it was great. They make college now, but its not the same. Just blame 2k sports

No, blame MLB. They're the ones who allowed one company to own exclusive rights, just like NFL is to blame for letting EA have the exclusive NFL rights.

I remember when I had MVP baseball 2003 on the PC. That game sucked!
With MVP 05, that is one of my favorite console games ever.

Didn't EA make MVP? I somehow don't see this happening...;)

There was Microsoft Baseball 2001. BM is actually in that one. Unfortunately, that was the last MS Baseball game. Awesome for it's time, and still pretty good minus the outdated graphics.

Yea I knew about Microsoft Baseball, and I know MVP was made by EA. But a combination of the two would be amazing....

it is funny that I had Microsoft Baseball, then they stopped making the game, i went with the most similar game, (3do high heat)....great game BTW, then I went with Season Ticket Baseball(OOTP3), finally while looking for High Heat on gamestop..they had this similar game box on the right hand side, and I saw Baseball Mogul 2k3....(thats the rest of the story)....

MVP '05 was the best console baseball game I played. The 2K games suck, but another console baseball game I enjoyed was All-Star Baseball 2005. Its actually for the 2003 season, but its a fun game.

All star baseball was a good game, thou I thought that when Ken Griffey Junior baseball was out, that game was 10x better than Allstar.

I still have ASB05, I may have to dig it out and play sometime tonight :).

The only game I played more than mogul ever was this game for the super nintendo...called Super Batter Up.
Great Game :)

MVP Baseball is the best non-sim baseball game there was. I miss it too. My only beef was how online, all you had to do was throw off-speed stuff low and away to prevent 99% of homers.

The two things I didn't like about MVP were that you had to "try" to hit a home run by trying to pull the ball, and also that sometimes it was waaaaaaaaaaay too easy to pitch. I always had to play with the sliders on the second highest difficulty, because I wasn't good enough to play on the highest but the second highest was way too easy and I won every game I played, so that the pitching wouldn't be as easy. Still a great game though :).

Yeah that was another good one. The thing I liked most about it was the GM mode accuracy. I believe it had the rule 5 draft, options and was a really accurate GM simulation.
High Heat was great too.
Its a shame 3DO and Acclaim are gone.
Didnt Microsoft buy most of 3DO's assets? It would be cool if they made a new game.
Oh well, maybe the MLB saw the error of their ways and will let EA make more baseball games in a few years.

Yeah, that was the thing I liked about ASB. The GM realism stuff was all really good, it was kind of like Mogul meets MVP '05, even though it came out two years before MVP '05 and Mogul doesn't have waivers, but I think you get my drift. I think I'm gonna go play that right now!

It all comes down to how much money 2K ponied up for exclusivity in the first place. After all, to use the football example, it's been nothing BUT complaints, but so long as EA is willing to back up the Brinks truck to the NFL's front door, they're going to continue giving them exclusive rights.

What I was kind of hoping for, was for EA to buyout Take Two, and develop 2 games per sport.
Have the 2K team do one, and the EA do the other.

Hopefully EA will step up for baseball next time, because the 2K baseball games blow. Their basketball games are pretty good, but the baseball games totally suck. Not that EA or 2K really has any incentive to spend a lot of money to put out a high quality game when theres no competition....

MLB 2k8 is one of the best baseball games I played since MVP

my only issue with EA, they are great when they develop games, but when they become the only game in the genre...there games get no improvements, just maybe some graffics improvements. (I.E. Madden)

I played 2K7 and didn't bother with 2K8 because I didn't want to waste my money on another disappointment.

2K8 is 2K7 with a roster update, and 2K7 had it's problems. Not a bad game, just not a good game. I like their pitching system a lot, but that's it.

See, I look at this differently...EA buys Take Two, and there's no competition. Where's the impetus to really develop your games at that point?
Look at the games that are exclusives...Madden in football, 2K in baseball...they've both just stagnated. Half finished 'features', total lack of improvement.
Now, look at the games with competition. The NHL games have consistently pushed each other for sales, so they've pushed each other when it comes to improvements in the franchise. NHL 08 was the best console hockey game ever made, bar none. A few years ago, it was 2K that blew the doors off NHL. Next year, who knows? They push each other to evolve. Same thing with the NBA games. NBA Live is still a problem, but it was a total disaster a few years ago...then 2K started outselling them, and it forced improvement.
Without competition, there is zero push for a game to grow. Look at PC baseball...if Puresim (and, soon, DDS : BB), OOTP AND BM weren't all pushing each other, do you think there would continue to be the push to develop thew games, and add the features? Probably not, simply because the sole maker could simply say "Well, they can complain all they want...there IS no alternative."
If EA buys 2K, I really don't think they'd keep both series going...what would be the point?

I was thinking EA could offer some incentives to the teams that get the better average reviews, and which game sells the most copies.
create their own competition.
Thats probably not very realistic though.
Is puresim a good game? how about DDS:BB? any info on it.
I like BM, but always looking for more games, I get into these games big time. Im seriously considering buying a new PC for the new TEW game and OOTP9.

I only messed around with the demo of puresim...it was a fairly solid game, though. As for DDS : BB, no real release date has popped up that I've seen so far. I guess the plan is, though, to have a completely open beta period, which is Shaun's MO from Puresim. Sounds promising, though.
And, in the meantime, Shaun encourages everyone to play OOTP and BM, as he apparently does. :D
