For catchers who have no prior major league experience, the circled image below happens:
Also, can we get Runners Thrown Out put into the scouting report?

On patch 9.42 (started before 9.42, but I;'ve mentioned this bug WAYY back but thought I'd bring it up again).
EVERY catcher who's in there first year (at least in 2006) has the same bug.

There isn't anything there for me.

how do you post the screen?
HoustonGM

I believe you.
Do a test though real quick, cuz I've seen this ALL the time.
Load up a game with my rosters, and sim 2 months. Then, look at Kenji Johjima, and Russell Martin. What numbers are they showing for PB/SBA/SB9/CS%

For both it says 0 for those stats.
HoustonGM
07-05-2006, 10:48 PM
Yeah, that's exactlty the problem.

I thought the problem was that the red box appeared around them.
ps How do you get those boxes? The popups
HoustonGM

Lol no. I put the red box to show where the problem is.
Theres http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=71964 that thread to show you how to post screen shots.
I just drew the red box in Photoshop.

that;'s right, but it should be an easy fix.

I wonder where the numbers are coming from though?
messed up pointer somewhere? that chould be tough to track down.
Bigger catcher fielding problem is how often batters reach base on dropped pop-ups to the catcher. Sure they drop a few (a lot more often in foul territory), but the runner doesn't reach first then. The catcher error problem has occured way too many times in my games.

Is there a stat that would display that or anything?
Catcher fielding stats seem ok to me, indeed on average Catchers apear to be much better fielders than most others (in 9.42a, three different 10-year sims so far...).

What numbers? The numbers showing in the Career line should also be in the 2006 line, considering thats the only year the guy has played. It's just not showing the 2006 stats in the 2006 row.

...or it's making up numbers to put in the career stats, most likely due to a bad pointer. I would think that both problems would be equaly possible, so who knows. It all depends on the actual code that generates the stats pages.
my only point with the above was that we shouldn't assume that it's an easy thing to fix.

I'm fairly certain its not making up the stats, although I could be wrong. I'd know if "passed balls" or "caught stealing %" was in the sortable stat choices.
I also think Runners Thrown Out needs to be added to the scouting report. It's in league leaders, why not scouting reports?
EDIT: RTO% is in the League Leaders, which is the same as CS%. First, it's rounded on the scouting report. Ok, well, not ROUNDED, but the decimel is chopped off. Currently, the scouting report shows Johjima as having a 34% CS% (down from when I posted the screenshot) in his career stats (still 0 in 2006). The League leaders lists him at 34.8%

Unfortunately it's not an easy fix. When I start a new game in 2006, I don't get this bug. I have no idea why it's occurring with your rosters but not with stats loaded from Lahman. I'll put it in the bug DB but since I can't fix it in a half hour it will probably wait until bb2k8.

It's not a big deal at all, since the stats get added in Career stats and after the player's rookie year, you get to see the stats for every year besides his rookie year. It's just a little annoying thing.

Oh, and here's another weird thing with this
It only happens in 2006. Rookie catchers in 2007 and beyond are normal.
Very strange.

I noticed that, despite the Lahman database not having year-by-year catcher-specific fielding stats (SB, CS, CS%), it does have career values for each stat, but they don't seem to match up to the real-life stats. Are they randomly generated?

i think so, check and see if they vary from time to time

He's only played one year and his career stats are different than his stats for that year. It only applies to the throwing statistics.

I've noticed the same and vaguely remember posting about it a long time ago.

This is different. The one you merged this into is about the database assigning career stats to players, for the time they played in real life prior to the start of the game.
This one is about a rookie who has been entirely simulated, and his career line doesn't match up with his single season line.

This (http://sportsmogul.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=112603&highlight=Kenji) is actually what I was thinking of, although it seems a little different.

Actually, I'm fairly certain that it's all the same problem. Or, at least, has the same root cause.
Thanks for digging up the other thread.

Something's really up with some of them...
For example, Jesus Flores, in 2008, played 1 game, yet has a SBA of 33...also, his career passed balls are listed as 8, when he had 1 in 2008 (and 2 each in 2009 and 2010). Aw, heck, here (along with another example of a rookie catcher). I'm pretty sure that the Career line for the rookie catcher is the accurate line, and something's messed up in the yearly line.
Same would go for Jesus Flores. He starts off in 2008 with a career line of 4 PB, 23 SBA, .34 SB/9, and 34 CS%. If you take that 23, and add in his 107 and 69, thats...199...nevermind, something is still off. I have no clue what though. :(

More updates.
It seems, at some point, the game just adds SBA's to catchers...
For example, two games into the season, I've played against Florida. I stole 5 bases in 5 attempts. Their catcher, who played all 18 innings, has 13 stolen bases attempted against him, and is showing a 23 CS%. These numbers should be 5 and 0.
I have no idea what's causing these weird anomalies..
HoustonGM
08-14-2008, 05:07 AM
Now I'm noticing a lot of catchers with, say, 1 game played in a season, and unreal amounts of stolen base attempts.
For example, see attached. Still no idea what causes this.
HoustonGM

Just noticed that this occurs for the playoff fielding stats of catchers as well. In my game in 2013, I just saw Russell Martin has 68-82 SBA's per series on his stats!

I'm seeing this with a majority of the league's catchers, although in some cases I notice after they play a few games, the calculations for the current season correct themselves(?).

Playing 11.25, Second season in PBP. So far this season, AJ has allowed 2 Passed Balls. However, his stat card shows that he has allowed 6. The total calculation however is correct @ 12 for his career.
