The new financial model has spawned a new cheat. Teams with low budgets and limits are raising their Farm System and Scouting expenses to OUTRAGEOUS levels in order to attract the best young talent possible. If you think this is OK, then look at this example from FastSim 24.

Baltimore Oranges
Budget: -210
Limit: -56
Farm System: 304 (1st)
Scouting: 279 (1st)

This is just one example of teams spending rediculous amounts on expenses. Since there is no limit on the levels of the expenses, they can get away with it.

Is there any way that this can be fixed?

my cleveland team's scouting and farm system were
3rd respectively behind boston and
some a s s who put all
his expenses to 999.
Now i'm 16th in both catergory
because under the new financial
system more small markets teams
are increasing their expenses but
large markets cannot or else they will be in debt.
Please change back the revenue like it was before.

I'm not saying that the financial model should go back to the way it was, even though I had 1 team destroyed and 1 team on the rocks. I feel that, if there are limits to spending in some areas (i.e. free agents and contract extensions), there should be limits on ALL spending. Even with a limit of 0, I could set all 3 expenses at 999. This is not fair to the rest of us who are trying to manage for the long haul.

Or at least some point beyond which you are wasting your money. There has to be some sort of diminishing returns with this. After all, there is not an unlimited supply of talented people in the world who want to play BB.

I have not seen this chat yet, or the effect it has. But now I'l;l be looking for it.

Clay and I were just discussing this issue. (I think I was just looking at the same 999/999/999 guy...)

We are going to build in spending limits if your team is in debt. And we might look at some other options too.

Probably what we are going to do is that if you are in debt, your spending goes to 1/1/1 on your expenses.

We're still looking at the game's new balance with the budgets in place, and we're trying not to make too many changes too quickly.

Cheers,
James

P.S. There are diminishing returns on the spending -- if you are the 1st place spender in a category, then it doesn't matter whether you spend 100 points or 999 points. 1st place is 1st place, regardless of the expense.

Similarly, if the 1st place guy is spending 999 points, and you are in 2nd place while spending 100 points, then there is no reason for you to spend 998 points. 2nd place is 2nd place, regardless of the amount of money being spent.
