My concern is about what to do with absurdly weak rookies. I'm getting people with F batting and F fielding who I have to keep at a point/year for 5 years. That doesn't sound like much, but let's say you get five of those a year, which I am. That's 25 points, which is a significant expense? Is there anyway to make salaries a fraction of a point or the ability to release a player for free who has never been on the major league roster? That would solve this problem.

I'm adding code to allow the free release of 1-point players with no major league playing time. This should be working within the next few days.

Hi, Actually if you get 5 rookies a year it's only 5 points a year....the 25 points you came up with it the total contract value, if you wanted to release them. If you don't release them it's only 5 points a year...not very much money.

At the same time you will only be able to have 50 players total on your roster, so if your close to that limit you may not get 5 players per year.

You can always try to trade them to a computer controlled team....they like rookies for some reason :p

But if you get 5 rookies per year and must hold onto each for 5 years, that gets to be 25 rookies you have to maintain on your roster every year -- for 25 points.

Anyway, as rookies are the only players you don't voluntarily put on your team, I've always felt free releases should be allowed. Also, some of those 'F's might become 'A's of 'B's someday -- so think carefully about releasing them.

That's true, I never thought about 5 rookies a year for 5 years, to become 25 points after the 5 years are up.

But at the same time, those 25 players are half of your team if you carry all 50 players. If half of your team is making 1 point per year, your not spending a whole lot, unless your other 25 players are rolling in the dough. Most teams seem to average a 300-400 point payroll, so your spending on your other 25 players is an average of 11-15 points per year.
Now if some of those other 25 player are only making 3-6 points per year your average for the rest will be higher than the 11-15.

Let's say you have 50 players on your team and 25 are making 1 point. I'll use a 5 player increment and raise the salary accordingly.

25 players 1 point=25 points
5 players 3 points=15 points
5 players 6 points=30 points
5 players 9 points=45 points
5 players 12 points=60 points
5 players 25 points=125 points

Now there are 50 players signed to a total of 300 points, so if you spend 400 a year you could spend more than what my example has per player.

I don't feel that the 1 point for 5 years is really that bad of a deal.

THAT would be awesome . . . speaking as the owner of a team that put itself in the red with farm system spending and got 3 F-D-F-C hitters. :)
