View Full Version : Does this bother anyone else?!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I'm putting everything else aside for a moment to ask this question. Why can't free agency be frozen on September 15th? Major League teams must have their playoff rosters set by September 15th, but in BBMO teams can release superstar quality players right before the playoffs. That's not the part that bothers me, but when a wildcard team picks up Pedro Martinez, Adam Dunn, Brent Abernathy, and Kevin Brown right before I play them in the playoffs -- I'd have to say I'm a little bothered. I hope something can be done or I might be.

Does anyone else have comments or opinions on this suggestion?

Teams should be able to release players after they have been elimated from the post season play but I feel that nobody should be able to sign someone after September 15. I think it's one of a few rules that should be implemented for next season's game. On a different topic...The farming should only count for how good the player becomes. I noticed that as long as I am in 1st for farming all year there's a good chance that I will get a better player than a poor market team. Just a suggestion but I feel teams who come in last should get the best possible rookie coming out.

I will agree with James. No free agent signing should be allowed between September 1 and November 1. Players, however, should be able to be released during that period.

I agree with James, it has always been tempting to sign a big Free Agent in late September or October, but I don't. However there are some other players that do go out and stock up in the Play-offs and I think that should be frozen untill playoffs end

I haven't had this hit the Independent League as yet, but the more I think about it, the more in favor of this I am.

Not to mention the fact that if they sign them to a 1 year contract right before the playoffs, they don't even have to PAY them.

Now THAT p*sses me off!

Especially, when you yourself could have had the player for free for the most important part of the season. I guess you almost have to cheat to make sure you aren't cheated.

This is definitely a problem. I've seen it happen several times. It shouldn't be hard to program into the game at all. It wouldn't be much different than the "lock" that is put on FA signings before a league has enough players. For example, if you join a league and it doesnt' have the minimum number of players, you can't sign any players. Do the same thing every September 15th.

why can't teams submit a playoff roster on august 31 just like the big league teams do...that way a playeer can play at the end of the year for a team, but unless there is a serious injury that player is ineligible for the playoffs...i think that could be done in the forums(at least for now)...i like picking up cheap players at the end for the following season and would hate to see this ended...what do you guys think about this?

I think it would be tough to implement a playoff roster in the forums, just because people will probably miss it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Clay ask a while ago what people's feelings were on this? I seem to remember him posting a poll asking whether he should allow FA signings to teams that were eliminated from contention by that point - which might solve the problem. Or just include a DateSigned field for a roster spot and if it's after Sept 1 or whatever then swap out the player in the postseason.

he just posted a poll on whether teams out of playoff contention should be allowed to trade...if he posted a poll on what you said then i missed it

Ah... you're right.. My mistake.

Still.. I think it's a good idea to limit it to teams out of playoff contention.

Funny you'd say Sept 15th as the Players just announced they plan to go on strike Sept 16th.

I agree with James on this one... It makes the whole season up til Sept 15 irrelevant for teams in contention if they can just go out and sign big stars at rock bottom prices.

And on the other note........if the MLBPA plays til Sept 16 and then decides to strike....Well, that's just sick. I think I'd stop following baseball all together, except this great game, without any strikes or rain outs :)

i don't know if it is possible, but i would rather see a freeze on year contracts after sept. 15th...i like to sign free agents for dirt cheap at the end of the season,, but the difference btwn me and the other guys is i sign them long term and would hate to see that go away

As folks have said, there are all sorts of ways to solve the problem. I like the playoff roster set on August 31st idea best, but that may be the hardest to implement. Solving the problem in any way would definitely make the game better.

to just add another circle for the trading block so that gm's could submit there playoff roster like that? Since there is no use for the trading block after july 31...just a thought...
