BB Mogul disappears!!!

Hi friends: Has this happened to anyone else????: I've "lost" my BM game off my PC......it simply vanished! I had the game saved on my desktop and in a folder, and like magic....it's GONE! Should I just reload the game again? What the heck happened??? Anyone else have this happen to them?? Strange.

Things don't just "disappear" from computers by magic, ever. Something obviously happened at some point. It's just a matter of identifying what that something was, is all.

Hello Ohms Law: Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. No one else uses this computer but me (ever). The game was on my hard drive and is now GONE. To show how ignorant I am re: computers, I don't even know what "OS" means. I have BBMogul08. It was working great. Whenever I wanted to play, I simply clicked on "start" and went to "BaseballMogul08", clicked on it, and the game came up on my screen. Well, today, I clicked on start and my Strat-O-Matic game was the only one there! BM was gone! Weird. I have not done anything with my computer (like virus scans, etc.) since installing BBMogul.

Pete...try going to your Start Menu in Windows, click on Search and look for the file, BB2K8.EXE. If it's still on your computer, Windows will find it and tell you where it's located.

Yea, because when you click the start button is shows recently used programs. I'd search your whole CPU first.

I did that. All it found was BB2K8.EXE.BAK, which Windows cannot open!

It couldn't hurt to reinstall it. Just let it install to the default folders (where it was originally installed the first time) and all your seasons will hopefully still be there when you run the game. Let us know how it goes.

I did that. All it found was BB2K8.EXE.BAK, which Windows cannot open!


How can something have two extensions?

It doesn't, only the .BAK portion is used by Windows. You can add a "second" extension by renaming the file with the option to show file extensions enabled. A program can rename a file like that as well...

Anyway, yea go ahead and reinstall it I guess. Use the repair installation option, if the installer will let you.

That's odd though... something happened. Like I said before, things just don't magically disappear from computers (which is partially why their so useful!).
Actually though, re-reading your description has me curious about something. Click Start, then hover your mouse over the "All Programs >" item and a menu should open up. Is there an item on that menu that says "Sports Mogul"? if so, hover your mouse over that and you should see another menu with an icon there for "Baseball Mogul 2008".

That's the way I always used to find the game in the past. It used to be listed as BaseballMogul08 (right over my StraT-o-Matic). That's where it (BM) disappeared from!!!

For future notice, .BAK is just windows extension for backup. All you do is edit the file name and delete the .BAK extension. The EXE file will run fine again w/o it.

I'm pretty sure if you do a "System Restore" in Windows XP, and you restored to a point prior to when BM was installed, then the Icons (and it's listing under All Programs) will disappear. Could it be this is what happened?

You know something.....that's VERY possible. I DID "restore" my PC a few days ago!!!!! Wow. Good call OldFatGuy!!!!!

Yeah, well then be aware if you installed any other programs between the period you restored to and the date you did the restore, they aren't going to show up either.

None others were installed during that time frame. Thanks for your input, I appreciate you taking the time to explain this to me. As you already know, I've reinstalled BM and I'm up and running again.
