I played a tabletop game with cards and dice a few years ago (still play APBA actually) and ran a 20th Century tourney. It consisted of the 20 greatest teams, 1 each from the NL and AL for each decade of the 20th century. I never did actually finish that replay, so I thought I would give it a try with BM and create the rosters. If there's any interest, let me know and I'll post them here when I'm done.
The teams that makeup the mod will be:
1903 Boston Pilgrims
1906 Chicago Cubs
1912 Boston Red Sox
1919 Cincinnati Reds
1925 Pittsburgh Pirates
1927 New York Yankees
1931 St. Louis Cardinals
1939 New York Yankees
1944 St. Louis Cardinals
1948 Cleveland Indians
1954 Cleveland Indians
1954 New York Giants
1960 Pittsburgh Pirates
1961 New York Yankees
1970 Baltimore Orioles
1975 Cincinnati Reds
1986 New York Mets
1984 Detroit Tigers
1998 Atlanta Braves
1998 New York Yankees
The teams were chosen based on ther W/L records.

This would be sweet. I'd use these rosters if you made them.
Make sure to avoid duplicate players (only one I can identify from here is Darryl Strawberry, but there must be others) by naming them Darryl Strawberry-86 and Darryl Strawberry-98. If you don't do that- then only one will show up...

I'll definitely make them as I'm planning on running a 20/20 tournament with them myself. Good point on the player naming convention and one that I had thought about...appending the year to their name. :)

Keep in mind that the name itself doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is the playerID. You can't have two players with the same playerID.

You can't have two players with the same playerID.Two players with the same playerID is possible using the Team File method (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?p=754443&highlight=team+file#post754443) instead of going through Lahman. This method works fine with earlier versions, I used it to create 36 important teams of the 20th Century (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?p=682454#post682454)* with 2K5 but somewhere along the line the birth years were made static instead of variable according to the starting year. As far as I know this problem still exists and results in guys either being really young or really old, if not dead.
*most were selected according to Expected Wins and others are winning teams from an important time in baseball history. The leauge setup is a varaition of one I originally planned for BBPro '98, which is capable of more teams.

Thanks for the info Jeff. After playing around with BM last night it seems that the Team File method is the way to go. At least at first glance. Your post heped to confirm that as well.
I'm going to start working on this in the next day or so and see how it goes. If this method doesn't workout for whatever reason, I'll go the custom .CSV route.

I finally got around to doing this. :) The roster was initially created using BM 2005 and the team file method and it includes all of the teams outlined in my first post in this thread.
Many thanks to Jeff Olson for his post above describing the team file method that he used in BM 2005. It certainly made things much easier and the player ages came out right.
This mod is for use with BM2K9. Hope you enjoy and any questions, comments, feel free to ask.
Thanks.
EDIT: Updated the .mog file. I replaced 1988 Oakland with 1984 Detroit. The two teams had identical W/L records, but 84 Detroit got the edge because they won the WS in 84 while Oakland lost theirs in 88.
EDIT: Updated the .mog file with the correct Left/Righty (for batting and throwing) vitals for all the players. 10/22/08 8:40PM Eastern.
EDIT: 10/24/2008 2:44AM Eastern - Recreated the file from scratch, due to a scheduling issue with the previous .mog file.

In a quick 10 season simulation, it was the 1939 New York Yankees winning the World Series 8 out of 10 times. They averaged 103 wins per season with only 59 losses. As for the NL, it was the 1998 Atlanta Braves, averaging 90 wins and 72 losses per season, finishing fisrt 3 times with 1 WS win along with the 1919 Cincinnati Reds, averaging 89 wins and 73 losses, finishing first 4 times with 1 WS title.
I plan on doing a more detailed replay, perhaps with me managing the 98 Braves in PBP mode. Should be interesting. :)

I updated/revised the rosters. I replaced 88 Oakland with 84 Detroit. Both teams had the same W/L records but Oakland lost in the WS, while Detroit won, so Detroit gets the nod. If you downloaded the .mog before 10/22/08 4:30PM then please download again to get the updated and corrected version. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience.

Another update to the file. Since the roster was initially created with BM 2005, it didn't include the batting/throwing vitals (Left/Righty). I fixed the problem and posted a new version above (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showpost.php?p=1193538&postcount=8).

Brand new version of the 20th Century mod created from scratch to fix a scheduling issue with the previous version. Click here (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showpost.php?p=1193538&postcount=8) to download it.

There's nothing built into the game, no.

For me, it was easier using BM2K5 to create the 20th Century mod as outlined in this thread since the ages come out right (no dead players as is the case when using 2K9). You can download the 05 version free here (http://www.sportsmogul.com/baseball2k5/free.htm). The only caveat with this method is that every player will bat/throw lefty but that can be fixed easily using 2K9. If you have questions about any of it just ask. :)
