Any suggestions on how to avoid SOOOO many players retiring when the team decides not to resign them?

signing them? ha ha, but seriously i think thats slightly random so it may just be bad luck in the probability sector. I haven't noticed it being paticularly rampant in my games.

i'm not sure, but i'm thinking if you cranked up the percentage of how much the computer relies on stats to make decisions rather than ratings, they'd be more inclined to sign vets and not let them languish in the Frontier league.

It probably would, but it might hold them back a bit always re-signing their aging vets. I always have my stats vs scouting set at +20 btw.

Has anyone ever asked if there was a maximum limit on how many free agents are allowed?

I usually have a lot of guys retire when there are a lot of free agents already.

There is a limit to the number of free agents that can be in the free agent pool....I don't know the number off the top of my head though.

Anyway, the game RARELY retires any significant players. For Hall of Fame type guys, I usually see them languish in free agency for at least half a year after they last played before retiring. I've seen some odd retirings, like Yovani Gallardo retiring in 2008 despite no injury or rating change, but such cases are extremely rare. The guys that retire are nearly always washed up or have no future.

I agree... for the most part, the players that retire weren't wanted by any team. My only example was Alex Gordon of the Royals retiring after he was injured for a few days, but that was quite awhile ago, and those types of retirements are few and far between now and fixed, I think.

When I get back home I will have to look and see if any big names retired however I just wondered because the moment FA retired I noticed most of the players I didn't resign retired.... and although I agree none of them were star players I still wish some of these type of players would go into the FA pool because some of these players let's say Dallas Mcpherson (although I didn't want him) maybe someone would have wanted him as a backup.... so made me wonder if any other players retired that I would have wanted as a backup.

The Free Agent pools (there are two of them, one for batters and one for pitchers) are each limited to 1 full team's worth of players (125 players).
