View Full Version : Is it just me?

Why does it seem like the games worst hitters homer off me every damn game? I pbp every game. Take my last game for example. My starter was a 90+'er and in the top 10 in a couple cats. Number 9 hitter for opposing team, has 8 career homers in 10 years. Homers off me. Fine i can accept that. Then my closer comes in, 98 rating, same guy homers. wtf. I watch a lot of baseball. No hitter that scouts 65/65 is gonna homer twice off two tier 1 pitchers. Its BS. This also leads into my other complaint. I can have a guy throw a perfect game give up 3 hits, and its always 3 solo homers. Why is it homeruns are SO DAMN frequent in pbp? Its rediculous. You could even trade and have 5 all star starters, but if you pbp you're gonna give up record HRs for each of them.

Are you talking about Manager mode or Player mode? Homers aren't anymore frequent in play-by-play than they are when simming. It's just your perception.
Flukes happen. Luis Rivas (http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rivaslu01.shtml) had a two-homer game this season, off a quality pitcher in Ted Lilly. Rivas had 4 at bats in 2007, and didn't play in the majors in 2006. Crazy things happen.

its manager - one pitch mode. big difference between 2 homers off the same pitcher and two homers off 2 top notch pitchers though. i can see the fact that some hitters own certain pitchers, and concede it.
edit: i understand flukes happen, heck kotsay just hit the cycle the other night. but this seems to happen alot, the example was just my latest game.

It's just your perception. How many games have you played? It's far from happening "every damn game". If it bothers you though, you can turn down the home run frequency in the game.

Yea, just turn the sim settings to 10 for homeruns, and turn strikeouts up to 300, that should help ;)
Then the other teams worst hitters will stop hitting all those homers off you

ok then how about everytime a ground ball goes to the pitcher it advances the runner? what pitcher in any league would let the runner advance? dont tell me every single hit to the pitcher was a slow roller that allowed a runner to third either. on the same token infield hits are way too high. how many infield singles have you seen? why do i see 3-5 every game?

Yes it's just you, you are over representing things because they went against you.

Do this. Make a list of the things that bother you or you think are unfair.
Then keep track of how many times it happens to you and how many times your team does it. Then play A BUNCH of games. Compare.

A groundball to the pitcher does NOT always advance the runner.
Infield hits may be slightly more common than real life, but I don't have any numbers, and I haven't seen any abnormal amount of infield hits throughout 4 years of manager mode. Certainly not 3-5 every game.

Well if you face a bunch of speedsters and have a bad defense it could happen. But its unlikely. And a groundball to the pitcher doesn't mean its hit right to him every time. It could be to his left which makes it easier to advance the runner.

Or if you messed with the sim settings and made it so that the fielders never get the lead runner......

That's true. You can't go by the graphics completely, because they have a limited amount of display choices.

Try looking at the distance traveled by the ball.

Like HGM said-1 pitch mode is the same as simming-so if theres a problem with HRs its with your settings or just your perception is off. i would have to say the latter because i have homeruns set to 100 and dont have a prob and i play in the same mode as you.
I will admit there are a few too many infield hits in this game, but hits OVERALL can be adjusted-mine has singles set to 97 and it gives me averages that are right on with respect to real life. So a single is a single wether it was of the infield type or through the gap is really just cosmetic as long as the amount of total singles is within range of realistic.

just wanted to pop back in on this topic. all settings are at default. homeruns seems to have leveled out as one reader said would happen. infield hits are still a problem (granted its really just a pbp text problem as hits/avg seem to correlate in the end). ive learned to quit watching the distance or the ball path in the top as it usually winds up being rediculous. i just submitted a bug report for the distance counter today. i keep seeing homeruns of 345 ft over a fence of 355ft. no biggie, but nonetheless i totally disregard the top screen now :)

There are only a limited number of graphic outcomes, so you can't go by what you see on the top screen.
