I know this is a old topic but there is one new Hockey Sim that was released in October, called GM Hockey 2009. The Developers are French, however they do have a English Version out,and it is pretty good. It has it's own unique features like being able to put together a Team for the World Championships if you miss out on the NHL playoffs. It is definatley worth a look.

There's been an awful lot of French game publishing recently... I wonder what's up with that?

GM Hockey looks interesting. I haven't downloaded the demo yet, but it looks like it covers alot, including player's dying and even your own death as a GM

yeah there are a few oddball things in there but they only serve to make things a bit more interesting and some of them you can really get a laugh from too.
Another thing interesting is that at the start of the season all the GM's get together and hold a fantasy Draft for a GM's Pool and your drafted players earn you points based on their performance within the game.

This looks pretty solid. I'll definitely give the demo a try. After all, who better to review a hockey game than a Canadian??? :D

I'm glad to see people are trying it,one thing I should really mention is the Developers, they are really the best and make the game what it is. If you have problems or questions they have a English forum for the English version of the game, and you can post there and always recieve a respons, and they are very open to suggestions too.

Well first off, I should thank this game for one thing...it's reminded me I have Eastside Hockey Manager 2007 (last year the game was made), and upon checking I've found there's a new league file and some updates editors. Woohoo! :D
The game isn't bad, actually. I like the fact that even the demo version comes with a full editor. Player ratings actually look pretty solid overall. Scores seem pretty reasonable...stats don't seem outlandish. I did have some issues with it, though.
One minor one...the music might be the worst music I have honestly ever heard in a game. It's like the went to Google and typed in 'Random pointless techno', then downloaded the tracks in to the game.
The interface is a bit annoying. I'm sure I could deal with it, it just seems to always take one more button press than would seem to be necessary, or navigating between sub menus a bit too frequently for my tastes. I wouldn't mind so much if there was a sort of 'Hub Menu' everything branched from (EHM also has a clunky interface, but you CAN go back to a hub that everything branches off from).
The translation was much better than I was expecting, actually, although it did have the problem most translated titles do...bizarre phrasing. Not really an issue, though, just takes a bit of getting used to.
Overall it seems like a pretty solid sim, though. The problem with only being able to demo through one regular season, unfortunately, is that you never really get to see how prospects develop and players grow. Is it going to be like Madden used to be, where guys will gain 25 points in overall rating in 6 games...or like more recent Madden where a hotshot prospect with 3 All Pro seasons in a row to start his career doesn't shift at all? Or does it work properly? It's impossible to say after one regular season. There WAS player development IN that season, but I can't say what happens beyond it.
Anyway, it's a nice game, and if I didn't already own EHM '07 I probably would give some serious though to picking it up.

How good is Eastside Hockey manager?
It's the king if you want to play a hockey sim game. You can still download it from their main website here (http://www.eastsidehockeymanager.net/downloads.php?view=download&id=370). I like the way the demo's been structured...it's the full game, with a 6 month of REAL time limit. So, depending on how much you play, you can play through multiple seasons easily before the time's up, or start a bunch of different games. If you do decide to buy, it's $34.99.
Oh, also check out this site (http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/portal.php)...they have up to date rosters for the past 2 years, plus facepacks, game editors, and everything else for it.

Nobody really knows. Sports Interactive put it on 'hiatus' after '07, and it's never really been mentioned since. It WAS a pretty consistent, solid seller too.
It's still a good game WITH the new rosters, though.

Cool! Definitely go and download the '08/'09 rosters I was talking about, too...since the demo really is just a limited time version of the full game, I would imagine they would work in it just fine.

For those that may be interested, you can buy GM Hockey Manager 2009 (http://www.lesims.net/Home.html) between now and January 22nd at a 25% discount off of the regular price of $30. I'm tempted to pick this one up at that price.
