Uh, thats what threads are for ;). I have seen them on other sites, and I don't like them. Maybe there are better ones, but there is this one in particular that I think is very annoying and ugly

Has anyone here played? I was looking into Cyber nations just last week, actually. I'd be curious to see what anyone who plays really thinks.

I played it for about eight months last year with a couple of friends. It is all about building alliances, which will help "protect" your nation should anybody try to attack it, help you to get bonus items, and so on. Every alliance will offer you something different, so it's just like choosing a political candidate. It is free, but for a certain fee per month ($5, $10 or $20) you are able to get more things in the game... more "money" to buy supplies, military hardware, building schools, medical facilities, etc. You can enjoy it and be successful without paying anything... it just helps your nation grow faster if you pay. Your nation will grow (very) slowly every day, in terms of land and your population. Depending on your economy and the job situation, that's how you will make more money to move forward (without paying). Your citizens will pay taxes, and depending on how high you set the tax rate, that will determine their happiness, productivity, etc. It's just like expenses in Baseball Mogul... you maximize them to make the most money, but after a certain threshold, you start to lose money (or in this case, productivity). There are several pre-requisites, or items that you need to have before you are able to get the next item, so nobody will ever be able to "dominate" this game overnight. Certain things will grow your population faster... or increase your "income" at a higher rate (so you can buy/build more things)... or minimize the chance of losing a significant portion of your population from disease or a military attack.
It took me a couple of months before I had a respectable nation, and much longer until I would consider it "dominant", although the most powerful nations are the ones that have played the game since the beginning. Random things can happen to your nation (disease, natural disasters, etc), so it's important to invest in things like hospitals and medical facilities... sort of like Baseball Mogul. You also choose your type of government and your religion, and depending what your citizens think, it will affect their happiness, productivity, etc. You can only change it so often though to try to maximize its "effectiveness". It is much more complex than the intro shows it to be, so it can be a lot of fun. The downfall, at least when I played, is that there is only so much you were able to do each day, so it can be boring as well. That's why I ended up leaving the game. I just went ahead and attacked my friend's nation, and stopped logging in. (There's a two week inactivity period as well, so if you forget to log in after that time, your nation will be deleted, which can suck if you built up a powerful nation.) There's more diplomacy when you become truly dominant. You could wage a "nuclear war" and attack opposing nations for whatever reason, but obviously depending what alliance they are apart of, they would all attack your nation (it's either two or three attacks and counterattacks you could do each day) and it would fall into anarchy, so it's not an all-out "war game". I think some of you would really enjoy it. It's really complex and requires a lot of thought to build a successful nation, because there will be a lot of choices you have to make on things.

I, myself, have taken a good long look at the game, and am toying with the idea of entering it as leader of a "Sovereign Quebec", primarily to see how that (currently) Canadian province would work out as an independent country.
"Sovereign Quebec" (SQ) would have evolved via a massive "Yes" vote in the latest referendum "Should Quebec Province separate from Canada?", followed by cordial negotiations with the Canadian Federal Government; the individual Canadian provinces; and the United States, as a result of which this new country would:-
Allow free and unfettered access through its borders to any and all Canadian provinces, and American states.
Would happily join any trade treaty, or defensive alliance within the N. American continent
Would adopt the characteristic tolerant attitude of Canadians and Americans towards all creeds and religions already within its borders, whilst reserving the right to bar the entry of any who that we deem would present a danger to SQ, or its immediate neighbours.
Would not seek to extend its present boundaries, but would vigorously defend those borders; boundaries; and way of life, against any aggression.
The aim of the SQ Government is, in time, to build a country where the quality of life – not, necessarily “standard of living”- for all of its citizens, is paramount
Summed up, the Sovereign State of Quebec would, ultimately, prove to be an admirable role model; a peaceable neighbour; a good friend; a generous trading partner; and a stalwart ally; in the defence and well-being of the entire North American continent.
Whaddya think, Guys?
I’d be especially interested in the views of any French-Canadians who might be out there.

During the school year I go to bed at 11:30 or 12 and wake up at 6.

I don't sleep normally anymore... I haven't for probably a year and a half. The week before I started the 10th grade, I stayed up for seven days straight. I got very sick as a result of it. Now in my "old age", my max is two days straight, and even that's a challenge. Anyway, when you work for yourself and have assignments where you don't have to go to an office at 7 AM, it's easier to do that. Usually I'm up all night, and if I have something planned for the next day, I'll stay up all day as well. I've found the power of the NAP! When my body gets tired, I take a nap. I take two or three naps for 2 to 3 hours a day, and I've never felt better. But obviously on some of your more "normal" schedules, you can't do that, even though some of you probably do sleep through your classes. :p

I miss sleeping in class. I used to all last year. This year, I have 3 computer classes, so I just distract myself by surfing the web. And my other two classes...music is sometimes interesting, although the music we were listening to the other day did put me to sleep...and theology, I wish I could fall asleep in, but I drink a coffee before it. That didn't work for my literature class last semester, but it works for theology.

Hey,Guys, mebbe I should go back to school to ease my insomnia...
Seriously, here's a tip that may work for you, too...
I often come over sleepy whilst at the computer (I read, somewhere, that 40% of our energy is expended in "seeing" stuff), I give in to the urge, grudgingly, - like most gamers, I suppose, there's never enough time for my addiction - but I lose the minimum of time, by just relaxing at my post, closing my eyes, and following a rational train of thought, until, suddenly, an absolutely incongruous idea or image pops into my head, out of left field.
This means that I've started dreaming, which means that I've been sleeping, which means that my batteries are recharged for a while...most of my cat-naps last no more than 15 minutes, I'd say that 5 is the norm' As soon as my thoughts go haywire, I know that I can return to work, refreshed
True, if I've had a particularly sleepless night, I have to take several of such naps during the day, and if I've eaten, beforehand, the naps can last up to an hour, but all in all, the "Halt until you hallucinate" method of napping is a great time-saver for us sleepyheads.
