View Full Version : A Trip To The "Red Zone" - A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty

Thanks to those who were reading my Browns dynasty, but as you probably read - the file somehow got corrupted.

In any event, I am starting a new dynasty and I'm going to try and keep it simple so it's not too much of a task to give updates. Hope you all read!

I'll be starting with the Kansas City Chiefs, "Mogul" difficulty (so it'll be tough to make trades), and the default rosters that came with the game.

The main goal of taking the Chiefs to the Super Bowl is by "re-establishing" the team. In other words, we are going to gut the hell out of the team, get rid of big contracts, and bring in some young, cheap talent. Call me the Billy Beane of football. It's going to take time to get a winner on the field, but it's better this way than to waste a couple of years with overpaid guys who don't produce.

Here are the major moves that were done in the preseason:

Superstar LB Derrick Johnson was traded to the Vikings for a 2009 1st round pick and a 2011 1st round pick. Although Johnson is a stud and he's young, anybody who is a $10.8M cap hit is not needed at this point for this team.
LB Demorrio Williams ($7.8M cap) was released.
TE Tony Gonzalez was released. I know, I know...this was a HUGE hit for the fans of Kansas City. Fact of the matter was, he was a $6M cap hit and NOBODY would take on his salary.
LB Napoleon Harris was traded to the Jets for a 2010 2nd round pick.
LB Donnie Edwards was traded to the Bears for a 2011 6th round pick.
CB Patrick Surtain was traded to the Redskins for T Stephon Heyer.
Signed LB Jonathan Hacker.
Signed TE Jerome Collins.
Some other minor cuts and signings were made as well.

I am cringing looking at brady Croyle's rating. And, I am sure all your fans are gone LOL. But good luck, hopefully you do better than you did in Cleveland

A 74 rating actually isn't that bad for QB. The ratings are pretty low all around in this game, and while Croyle won't be leading them to the playoffs anytime soon, in all likelihood, judging by his rating hes a decent QB.

Ouch.

And two questions. First, how did you make the roster post thing and that game recap? Photoshop or GIMP or something similar I'm assuming, but just curious. Second, did you post that as an attachment or using IMG tags, because I didn't think IMG tags were enabled in this forum?

Yes, we did get CRUSHED. Terrible game overall. No running whatsoever (see yards/carry). Passing game was relatively non-existent either. Nobody really expected us to beat the Pats this time around, though. Next week we play the 1-0 Raiders at home.

Photoshop. I probably won't make every week like that, takes way too much time, I just wanted to try it out.

We just signed DE Dustin Clark (77/77) who will start opposite Tamba Hali. We also signed a new fullback who will start in place of Oliver Hoyte, who was released. Also, we will be going to a 3-4 defense.

GM MULLER VERY UNHAPPY WITH START

It appears the GM of the Chiefs is not pleased with the way they have started off this season. "They look awful so far, and I am not afraid to say it. It has nothing to do with Herm (Edwards) or any of the coaches for that matter - it's the attitude of the players. Yes, we have a young, inexperienced team, but we should not be getting swept off of our own home field like this."

The Chiefs will take on the Falcons (1-1) next week in Atlanta.

Transactions:
- The Chiefs have signed LB Dan Dolan

None whatsoever. There's a glitch in the game that when you run a 4-3, one of your defensive lineman gets no stats - it shows that he never started a game. That's the only reason I went to a 3-4.

I run a 4-3 and I don't have that problem.... Have you checked your playbook to see if that's the problem?

The goal this year is to finish as low in the standings as possible so we can get some nice draft picks and rebuild with young, cheap talent in the offseason.

Terrible game today, I'm not really sure what is going on with Larry Johnson. With his salary and rating, he's definitely trade bait - especially because we have Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles on the bench waiting for playing time.

This is almost becoming funny. I am sure to go 0-16 with this squad...

A really funny side note, we are averaging 4.0 PPG and giving up 38.0 PPG!

I don't want you guys to think I am not into this team at all...trust me, it's all part of a strategy. If you can bear with me for one or two seasons, I think we can develop a winner that'll be fun to follow.

When I switched to a 3-4 on a game I was playing I had to go into the playbook and edit the Formation in the Balanced, Run Defense, and Pass Defense folders. Maybe, even though you want to play a 4-3 or 3-4 or whatever, the formations are set opposite to what you want.

Get yourself some good lineman and good things will come to you. Any reason why David Greene has been getting snaps in the games?

Two reasons we put him into the game. Croyle has been sucking it up and also he got hurt for a few plays toward the end of a couple games.

We will be starting David Greene in Week 7 (Week 6 is a bye) at QB to see if he can at least throw a TD pass.

Also, the 4-3 defense is back, seems the glitch worked itself out?

Week 7 Recap
"Although we lost, we were very pleased with the way David Greene carried himself out there. We are starting to come together - it may not show it in the standings, but you can feel it in the locker room," said GM Chris Muller

When asked about the security of Coach Herm Edward's job, Muller replied, "That is a non-issue. We knew this going in that it was going to be a rebuilding season. That's not entirely Herm's fault. He is and will be the Head Coach of the Chiefs."

IT'S OFFICIAL, CHIEFS BENCH CROYLE, STICKING WITH GREENE

For the time being it looks as if the Kansas City Chiefs will be starting David Greene at Quarterback over Brodie Croyle. The 0-6 Chiefs have looked terrible offensively as of late, and Greene showed signs of being able to jumpstart the offense last week. It's only a matter of time before they win their first game.

if you are trying to rebuild for next year i suggest you should trade Larry Johnson for some high draft picks. Just a suggestion, its your dynasty do what you want.

Another beatdown, but at least David Greene is looking solid.

Our two young safeties are performing well, I plan on building the team around them, Tamba Hali, Dorsey, and Bowe.

I've tried - believe me. On Mogul difficulty it is extremely hard to pull off trades. I can't get ANYTHING for him:

Okay, yes. It's a rebuilding year. The team looks absolutely horrid. In fact, I am embarrassed to continue the dynasty at this point. Only thing is, I KNOW we are going to turn it around by 2010. Hopefully you guys keep reading. The more I post, the more drawn into the season I get - now I am just hoping we can win a game.

Sorry I am not one of those guys who posts storylines and stuff. Not my style. I'll post a quote or a headline once in awhile...but storylines take so much time, you tend to lose interest in the game itself.

Here's my take:

I like the pictures with the stats and scores and stuff. Its a nice touch. But at the same time some more input/analysis coming from the GM (IE, you) would be nice. Things like how you feel about the team, what you feel you need to improve on, strengths of the team, and so on. See if you can blend the pictures you do use with some more analysis and such.

Week 10 Review

The Good
- Jon Hacker, the 33 year old rookie from waivers, put up 9.0 tackles
- Tyron Brackenridge is playing is arse off this year (38 total tackles) and put up 9.5 tackles today

The Bad
- Philip Rivers and LT went OFF today. See stats above.
- 452 total yards + 6.0 yards/carry??!

Overall a disgusting display of athleticism. The Chiefs are going nowhere this year, and fast. GM Chris Muller was quoted as saying, "The team looks lost out there. I have no idea what is going on, but we will get to the bottom of it."

Herm Edwards is said to be on a BURNING hot seat right now with his team still winless. Muller still denies that he will be fired.

The Chiefs will take on the Saints (4-5) in Week 11. Stay tuned.

* G Brian Waters will miss 4 weeks with an ankle injury
* C Wade Smith will miss 2 weeks with a concussion

Just to add onto my own post, and self-advertise a little :), I think I do a pretty decent job of providing insight and analysis in my dynasty so you should check it out.

The pictures show us what happened, but they don't tell us how or why we got there, you should tell us that at least a little bit with your posts. I'm not saying do an incredibly detailed post for each game, but do a few sentences about scoring drives/important points in the game/etc., if Greene throws an interception that gets returned for a TD on the last play of the game to lose the game in OT, tell us. The "Good" and "Bad" thing that a lot of FBM dynasties seem to use are good as well.

Unbelievable.

This is now the second corrupted file I have had, and my third install of FM09.

I think it may have to do with the torrent program I have on my computer...then again this ol' thing has been shutting down on me randomly for months now.

I am going to start another dynasty and hopefully this one won't corrupt on me. Has anyone else had this problem???

I am this close to just saying screw it and building a new computer. But then it raises the question every computer nerd asks himself - do you buy a gorgeous MAC or build a powerful desktop for half the price???
