Oh how I wish...Started a Rockies dynasty in 1993 and Helton became the face of my franchise and is now one of the greatest players ever.

He is second in RBI's to Ken Griffey and just took over first in the all time home run category. He has 40 home runs in the playoffs.

He has won 9 MVP awards including 7 straight. And five world championships.

Todd Helton is a unique player in the game if you start a sim in 1993 as the expansion Colorado Rockies. He's already good enough to start, and in many cases already rated higher than Andres Galarraga. Then, since you are the Rockies, for whatever reason, you have the first selection in the June draft (even though expansion teams choose last) and Alex Rodriguez is always the highest rated player available, so you have two young players who will dominate for the next 10-15 years.

I actually did not take A-Rod with my first pick. I took Doug Davis who helped me win all my world titles. I was going to take A-Rod but he ended up a Marlin and ended his career with 597 home runs.

It's interesting how Helton is already good enough to play. I've always found that interesting. I have always traded Andres in that 1993 season just because he always fetches good starting pitching prospects which the Rockies need in that first year.

Yeah, especially since he wasn't drafted until 1995 in real life, didn't debut until 1997, and didn't start until 1998. I understand players appearing the year they are 18, but it seems he develops too fast. Not that I'm complaining when I choose the Rockies. It's just hard to play Andres Galarraga and keep Todd Helton in the minor leagues for too long just to mirror reality.

Yeah, and I loved Galarraga when I was a kid so it's hard to watch him go but I guess it worked pretty well this time as Helton became one of the greatest if not the greatest player in history.

True... he was one of my favorites too. I'd just like to (have to) keep him around for a couple of seasons while Helton would (or should?) develop in the minor leagues, but there's no way to ever do it, unless you switch Helton to the outfield. I've never seen a single time where Helton wasn't ready to start in 1993.

Yep, historical rookies are overrated at the time of their introduction.

As a contrast to that of fictional draftees who take far too long to develop, historical rookies develop way too fast, to the point of often times not even spending any time in the minors.

That would explain why the expansion Marlins always have Tony Saunders and Matt Mantei on the roster when they're still in their teens.

I also drafted A-Rod, and Helton has not even been my best homerun hitter. He has been great, but Matt Stairs keeps hitting 50, and Larry Walker has been great. Castilla has also topped 50. A-rod is weird. He will hit 40 homers, then 20, then 40, and then 20..

You do realize he is a career .328 hitter IRL
