View Full Version : Returning To The Nineties: Texas A&M Aggies Dynasty

Well here's my introduction. I used to post what I called "Forum Dynasties" on EARosters.com (formerly PSXsports.com). Members would post Scouting Reports of their players and I would translate that into creating their player. I usually got around 20-25 players, filling out QB, Back, Receivers, and Defense with all created starters. Though recently the interest level in these dynasties has hit rock bottom.

I know this isn't a Mogul game dynasty, but nonetheless it's a dynasty to follow. I've decided to take on a rebuilding project with Texas A&M. As usual with these dynasties I've simmed the first 5 seasons so that all prospects are game generated. I will start play in 2013. The "Returning To The Nineties" title is in reference to the success of A&M football in the 90's and the (obvious) goal of returning them to greatness.

A little bit about my NCAA gaming. It's really the only console game I play anymore. I try my best to play within the spirit of the game and give myself a good challenge in the games (I don't need to exploit the Hail Mary bug to stroke my "talent" ego). I am a geek when it comes to customizing my teams. I hate gay Facemasks and Equipment and edit each play I have. Additionally unlike most others, my Special Teams units are all manually ordered so that no starters are on them. Gotta give those young guys some playing time! I also rotate along the D-Line, Backs and Receivers.

Now, let's get this show on the road!
-----

Ground Rules

Platform: PS2

Quarter Length: 11 Minutes

Difficulty: All-American w/ Adjusted Sliders

Play within the spirit of the game. I won't be exploiting bugs. I'll be hitting the holes on run plays, dropping back a realistic amount on passing plays, blitzing/bump coverage in moderation, etc...

Recruit within my region. Mostly will consist of NM, OK, AR, LA, and TX. But I define "region" as including the likes of AZ, CO, KS, MS, as well as some other states that aren't too far from Texas. Pretty much the only way that a prospect outside of my "region" will be recruited is in the off-season stage and only if they're interested.

I also have limits on recruiting, like not being able to grab a ton of blue chip recruits. Basically I'll recruit with what the interest is on the program. 90% of my players will be made up of those listed in the "Interested Prospects" screen.

In addition, I have to recruit players that have "Average" or better discipline. This means I have to scout them before recruiting them or with In-Season recruiting once I discover that they have "Poor" discipline I must remove them as a target.

Summer Training - Basically limited to Freshmen (True and Redshirted). Though SO, JR, and SR can be allowed to be used, but cannot use the drill to boost a primary skill. That would mean a LB can be used on the Tackling drills, but wouldn't be allowed to boost SPD or TKL or a WR couldn't boost SPD or CTH.

Lastly ALL prospects will be redshirted during their first year. This is more of a personal choice than a rule, but just to note that no true Freshman will be playing.

What I'll Cover

Obviously I'll give you an in-depth look at Texas A&M. From In-Season Recruiting to Game Recaps to Player Stats to the Off-Season fun.

An overview of the Big 12

A look at the nation's top 25 (may cut it down to top 10) and the Heisman Race.

And going back to A&M, I'll try and get some articles in there just because like the great CatKnight does.

Not a bad team, just do me a favor and kill the Longhorns and the Sooners!

A New Era In College Station Begins

After turning the Aggies around, Head Coach Mike Sherman is headed back to the NFL. During his five seasons, Sherman turned in a 37-29 record with four of the five seasons ending in bowl bids. This past season A&M had great momentum nearing the end of the regular season before hitting a rough patch of having to play top ranked Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas within a five week period. All three games would result in losses for the Aggies and a trip to the Holiday Bowl against Arizona where the Wildcats prevailed 37-31.

Taking over is Offensive and Recruiting Coordinator Matty Nokes. Nokes was a part of Sherman's staff since 2008 on the recruiting side, but wasn't given the play calling duties until after A&M's dismal 2010 campaign. Being that he's witnessed the development of the players first hand, Nokes feels the transition to Head Coach won't be too difficult,

"I've seen these players develop their entire careers. Being the Offensive Coordinator for the past two seasons has really helped me handling a big challenge on my plate. I'm still going to call the plays and I'm looking forward to progressing this team much like Mike did in his years here."

Nokes will start his Head Coaching career with a pretty good team. The Aggies are ranked #18 in the Pre-Season Polls. But at the same time he'll get his first test before being able to have a few practice exams against the bottom feeders as A&M is set to host #23 Alabama on September 7th.

"I really like our non-conference schedule," Nokes stated.

"We get a home and road game against two pre-season ranked teams in Alabama and travel to Arizona State. Then we host and travel to two in-state teams as well."

Those two other opponents are (at) TCU and Texas-El Paso. That's something Nokes wants to start doing more of, scheduling in-state teams for non-conference games.

"Granted we aren't on the same level as Texas, Oklahoma, or Nebraska quite yet, but it's nice to host non-BCS Texas teams. It's always nice to give the players from those schools to play on a big stage."

A&M football might not be held in regards to that of #8 Oklahoma, #12 Nebraska, or even #20 Texas, but they'll get to show their stuff against all three teams (OU and Nebraska on the road) this year. As well as traveling to #15 Missouri. Did I mention that A&M has a pre-season SOS ranking at #5?

2013 Texas A&M Aggies Offensive Preview

Depth Chart Format

Quarterbacks

1. Daniel Bonds (86) - Jr / 6-3 210
Bonds is a well-rounded QB. He can run a bit and has a good arm. He's the only returning QB to have an attempted pass for the Aggies.

2. Mike Latimer (78) - So / 6-2 195
Latimer is a worthy backup to Bonds. He's much more shifty of a runner than Bonds, but needs more time to develop his passing game.

3. Brian Garner (72) - Fr / 6-2 195
Garner draws comparisons of Tavaris Jackson. He's a gifted athlete, but a project of a QB.

Recruits
Jeremy McDougal (78) - 6-4 210
McDougal was an Elite 11 QB and a surprise of a signing. It was reported that the Aggies weren't concerned with grabbing a QB this year, but with a talent like McDougal expressing high interest in making College Station his new home, they couldn't resist. Remember Texas' Colt McCoy? Yeah, he has that potential.

Tailbacks

1. Wayne Kane (91) - Sr / 5-10 200
If I'd have to compare him to an NFL back, he's much like DeAngelo Williams of Carolina. He's a very shifty runner in a compact frame, but has the ability to run in between the tackles. He can catch the ball out of the backfield as well. He's the complete package.

2. Adam Craft (82) - Fr / 6-2 215
The highly touted recruit from a year ago makes his debut at #2 on the depth chart. He'll currently get his share of carries this season. He's another "complete package" back.

3. Matt Wilson (78) - So / 5-11 210
Wilson is the power back of the bunch. Solely his ability to grind it out for those extra yards will lead to seeing him on 3rd and Short situations.

4. Johnny Gorman (76) - Fr / 5-11 205
Gorman may be buried on the depth chart, but that doesn't take from him being a talented runner. But for the time being he's just a mop-up back.

Recruits
None

Fullbacks

1. Johnny Carty (82) - Sr / 6-1 220
Not the typical FB that Nokes would like to be his starter as Carty is more of a runner than a blocker, but experience gets him the starting job.

2. Jake Thomas (72) - So / 6-0 245
Thomas should see some time as he is a true blocking FB. He also has good enough hands to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Recruits
Dustin Lopez (65) - 6-0 215
Lopez is a true lead blocker who screams "Butterfingers". But in this offense, that's just what Fullbacks are used for, blocking.

Wide Receivers

1. LaRue Miller (90) - Jr / 6-0 210
A true playmaker. LaRue is strong and physical with the speed to get by Cornerbacks. He was a 2nd Team All-Big 12 selection a year ago.

2. Bryan Fletcher (88) - Jr / 5-11 180
Fletcher is a lesser version of Miller (both in size and skill). He's a very effective compliment to Miller.

3. Rod Thomas (85) - Jr / 6-0 175
Thomas is a shifty receiver who draws comparisons to Wes Welker. In addition to being the slot WR, he'll also be used returning kicks.

4. Drew Bain (85) - Jr / 6-5 225
Bain rounds out the four junior Wide Receivers. One look at him and you'll see why he makes a very nice goal line target. Like Thomas (above) he has the talent to have a much larger role in other programs.

5. Trent Wilson (82) - Sr / 6-1 190
By no means is he a poor receiver, he's simply overshadowed by a very talented junior class. He adds nice depth to a very strong group.

6. Jim Davis (76) - Fr / 6-1 175
The freshman speedster will see most of his time in the return game.

Recruits
Thomas Jones (72) - 6-2 185
Strictly a possession receiver. Jones needs to work on his speed and explosion to become a true factor.

Tight Ends

1. Eddie Tidwell (91) - Jr / 6-3 220
Even with a small frame Tidwell can do it all. As you'd probably expect he can run very well for a TE. He has solid hands and surprisingly a very good run blocker. He was a 2nd Team All-Big 12 selection last season.

2. Bryson Hawkins (70) - Sr / 6-2 240
Hawkins is a converted DE. He has decent enough hands and is a skilled blocker. He could see time at FB as well.

3. Curtis Schlicher (70) - Fr / 6-4 225
Schlicher is a well balanced TE. He won't see much action this season, but when he does, the Aggies should be quite pleased.

Recruits
None

Offensive Tackles

LT
1. Kyle Andrews (84) - Jr / 6-6 305

2. Allen Burnette (68) - So / 6-3 300

RT
1. Jeremiah Haston (78) - Fr / 6-7 325

2. Allen Burnette (68) - So / 6-3 300

Recruits
Robert Gould (68) - 6-4 300
Prototypical Right Tackle. He's strong and can clear the way on power runs.

Offensive Guards

LG
1. Paul Paschal (80) - Sr / 6-3 300

2. Tony Britt (74) - Fr / 6-3 275

RG
1. Greg Coleman (80) - Sr / 6-2 320

2. Alex Anderson (76) - Jr / 6-2 320

Recruits
Steven Fuller (68) - 6-5 285
Fuller relies on his athleticism when battling defenders. Something tells me he'll have to get stronger or he'll be overpowered.

Centers

1. Adam James (74) - Jr / 6-4 295

2. James Jackson (68) - So / 6-2 290

Recruits
Korey Thomas (65) - 6-3 295
The mental approach to the college game will be Thomas' biggest obstacle.

Overall the offensive line is A&M's weakest link. Many are undersized and rely on their athletic ability. The could cause problems when trying to run in between the tackles. We may see the Aggies going to a lot of Shotgun formations to combat this.

2013 Texas A&M Aggies Team Preview

Defensive Ends

LE
1. Ronald Pearson (85) - Sr / 6-5 260
Pearson is a well balanced end and a leader on defense.

2. Jonathan Schaffer (82) - Sr / 6-3 270
Schaffer is a strong, run stopping end. He could also see time as a pass rushing DT.

3. Matt Kimbrough (72) - So / 6-3 230
Kimbrough is much over shadowed by the seniors in front of him. For this season his best bet at playing time is on special teams.

RE
1. Lorenzo Henry (87) - Fr / 6-0 240
Henry is an amazing talent. He has the makings to be an All-American when it's all said and done.

2. Joe Rose (80) - Fr / 6-4 240
Rose is your prototypical rush end. At some point in his career he should see starting time.

Recruits
Jake Lambert (76) - 6-3 240
Lambert reminds coaches of a young Pearson. He has all the tools to have a productive career at A&M.

Defensive Tackles

NT
1. Martin Doyle (82) - So / 6-5 300
He's tough against the run and has quick feet to give Guards fits on his pass rushing abilities.

2. Lionel Clarke (78) - Jr / 6-3 310
Clarke is the strongest Tackle of the bunch. He'll be in on goal line situations.

DT
1. Scott Muhammad (78) - Sr / 6-3 300
The senior edged out Clarke for the starting role. He needs to step up and play well or the Aggies' run defense could be in trouble.

2. Tyler Ginn (72) - Fr / 6-6 290
Ginn is a raw Tackle prospect. He can move very well for a big man, but lacks sure tackling and on field decision making. Though his pure athleticism should have him in the Dime package.

Recruits
Kevin Hinds (78) - 6-3 275
On a physical level coaches think he's already as good as Muhammad or Clarke. Once he gets used to the college speed of the game, look out. He's strong and can rush the passer.

Greg Jackson (72) - 6-4 275
Jackson is a very athletic Tackle, but still has the strength to clog the middle. Overall the Aggies got to solid Tackles for the future.

Outside Linebackers

SLB
1. Andrew Ferguson (95) - Sr / 6-0 230
Ferguson is one of the best Linebackers in the country. He's very fast and is always in position to make a play. His one downfall is his suspect tackling.

2. Jason Martin (78) - So / 6-2 215
Martin is a well balanced player, but with Ferguson in front of him, special teams are his ticket to playing time.

WLB
1. Kyle Page (82) - Jr / 6-2 230
Page is a true run stuffer. The one area he could get beat on is being matched up with a speedy back out of the backfield.

2. Luke Ham (80) - Fr / 6-0 220
The sky's the limit for Ham. Simply, he's an athlete. A good enough one to play in the backfield.

Recruits
Tyler Herron (80) - 6-0 220
A spitting image of Ferguson, Herron could be throwing his hat in the ring to start as early as next season.

Middle Linebackers

1. Ryan Herbert (85) - Jr / 6-3 250
He's fast, physical, and a sure tackler. What more could you ask for out of your MLB?

2. Curtis Winston (78) - So / 6-0 230
More of a cover LB. Could have a hard time finding the field with the Aggies reeling in a big time prospect.

Recruits
Nick Morales (85) - 6-4 230
Morales was the #1 MLB in the country. He can do it all. And when we say "do it all", we mean it. In addition to being the complete package at Linebacker, he can was also a Fullback and Punter in high school.

Cornerbacks

RCB
1. Brian Powell (88) - Sr / 6-2 185
He's the leader of the secondary. He's also a sure tackler for a Cornerback.

2. Kevin Carter (82) - Fr / 6-3 200
Carter's got world class speed and likely the fastest Aggie. He'll prove to be valuable as the Nickel Back as well as in the return game.

LCB
1. Jay Daniels (85) - Sr / 5-10 185
Daniels is very fast, but doesn't always put himself in the best position to make plays on the field. However, when he is in the right spot, you can expect a turnover.

2. Jeff Outlaw (74) - So / 5-11 185
Outlaw adds solid depth, but his best ticket to seeing the field is on special teams.

Recruits
Kevin Harper (78) - 5-11 185
Harper was a surprise signing, but he looks good enough to compete for a starting job next year.

Lance Cowan (72) - 6-0 180
Cowan is very talented, just needs to learn the college game.

Safeties

FS
1. Nik Grevious (84) - Sr / 6-2 195
Grevious is a very sure tackler and understands the game very well, but his flaw is not being able to come up with the big play.

2. Nate Garrett (76) - So / 6-3 200
Once Garrett becomes a better tackler, he'll be a fine Free Safety

3. Ross Robinson (74) - So / 6-0 190
See Garrett.

SS
1. Anthony Davidson (80) - Sr / 6-0 200
While he can be beat in the passing game, he sure is great in run defense.

2. Anthony Jones - Sr / 6-0 195
Jones is the best tackler in the secondary. He'd have a starting job if he could just put it all together on the field.

3. Tavares Logan (72) - So / 5-10 185
Logan reminds many of former Big 12 star, Mike Minter. Logan may be undersized for the position, but he packs a lot of hurt into his hits.

Recruits
Kasey Douglas FS - 5-10 190
In the mold of more of a Strong Safety, but with knowing the talent there, you'll see why he's at Free Safety.

David Howe - 6-1 200
Howe was almost moved to Linebacker due to his lack of speed. He sure hits like a Linebacker and is improving his speed to stay in the secondary.

Specialists

K
1. Josh Campbell (62) - Jr / 6-1 180
Campbell has a powerful leg, but needs to work on his consistency.

P
1. Anthony Gore (70) - Sr / 6-2 185
He'll never be confused with someone who has a booming leg, but he can place the ball where he wants it.

KR
1. Kevin Carter CB - Fr / 6-3 200

2. Jim Davis WR - Fr / 6-1 175

3. Johnny Gorman - Fr / 5-11 205

PR
1. Rod Thomas WR - Sr / 6-0 175

2. Jeff Outlaw CB - So / 5-11 185

Recruits
Bryan Rice P - 5-11 200
Rice has a big leg and quite the opposite of Gore in that he needs to work on placement.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 1
September 2, 2013

Well since we didn't have a game on opening weekend of college football I was able to make a trip to watch one of our targeted prospects for the 2014 season. The coaching staff and I decided to make the six hour trip to Snyder, Texas to see blue chip wide out Donte Dukes. Donte has us as his favorite in the early going (or at least Rivals says so). He caught three passes for 33 yards and a score as Snyder High topped Big Spring 27-21.

Donte isn't an eye popping speedster or huge Andre Johnson type of receiver. He's got solid size and has good speed, but what separates him from being lost in the pack as just a "dime a dozen" Wide Receiver is his attention to detail and understanding of the game. He runs crisp routes and has hands of glue. His biggest catch of the game wasn't even his touchdown reception. On third and long and down one point, he came up with a clutch first down reception in traffic that would set up the eventually game winning touchdown run. He doesn't give the wow factor, but he's the complete package.

Let's move on to some other prospect talk, shall we?

Safety Dan Newsome holds us in very high regard and I like him a lot as well. He's a 4.0 student and nearly big enough to play Linebacker for us. His speed is much better than you would think for a Safety his size.

We're slowly climbing the ranks on Defensive End Marquis Pierce's list. He's a very strong End. I'd project him to be a Left End (or run stopping end as we call it). The big factor for us will be how much he values our academics at A&M. He says he'll only sign with a school with a good reputation for education.

Adam Walker has already cut down three teams and we made his final five, but rival Texas is a strong favorite. For a Defensive Tackle that's only 270, he sure is strong.

We felt bad that we had to end our pursuit of Tackle Eric Jamison. He's a very talented linemen and listed us as heavy front runners, but we were informed that his test scores would likely hinder his acceptance into the university.

Since Jamison is no longer an option we'll turn out focus to Tackle Tyler Greer from Henderson, Texas. He lists the Aggies as being in a logjam with Texas, LSU, Houston, and Nebraska. I think he has the ability to grow into a dominant run stuffer.

Well that wraps up my first blog, time to start game planning for Alabama. I'm hearing the ESPN GameDay crew could be on hand for the game.

Comments or questions are always welcome.

Week 2: Vs Alabama Crimson Tide

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Alabama.gif
Quarterback
Their QB reminds me of Doug Flutie. He's very mobile and has an accurate arm, but lacks good arm strength. He can get rattled.

Running Backs
Marcus Johnson is a top back. Remember that Chris Wells from Ohio State? Yeah...that's what we're facing. He's 6-1 245 and runs a 4.3 40! Good thing for us is that other than Johnson the don't have quality.

Receivers
They have very good depth at WR, but nothing amazing. The one guy to watch is 6-6 Lionel Burke. We'll need to make sure we have our big CBs matched up on him all day long. Their TE is nothing to ride home about.

Offensive Line
They have a tremendous left side of the line and their right side is no slouch either. Their Center is their weak link.

Defensive Line
Scary good Left End and Nose Tackle, but only an average Right End and Defensive Tackle. Poor depth on the inside, but good depth at End.

Linebackers
Solid Linebackers. OLBs can run with the best of them. Their MLB is very good, but lacks speed.

Secondary
Their RCB is a shutdown corner and the left corner is solid as well. Their FS is their best player, Barrett Nelson. They have a true freshman listed as their SS starter. Oddly enough they have two of the top 5 FSs in the nation. Something tells me that their backup, Tye Williams, will be seeing the field a lot.

Specialists
Their kicker is poor and that's probably not even a good thing for us as he has a weak enough leg that they'll probably be going for it on 4th down from the 35 to 25. They've got a strong punter and we'll be seeing Marcus Johnson returning kicks.

Game Plan

Defense

We'll be expecting them to come out running with Johnson and maybe even a little option.
They'll be dangerous inside the 20 with a top Back and a 6-6 receiver.
If we're gonna beat their O-Line it has to be up the middle.

Offense

Run LEFT!
Be prepared to see both top FSs in the game at the same time, making their secondary hard to beat.
Focus on beating their immobile MLB over the middle.

Special Teams

Kick it away from Johnson
Force their Kicker into tough Field Goals

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 2
September 9, 2013

Did you catch our game against Bama? It was sure one heck of a battle by two great backs. We knew we couldn't totally shut down Marcus Johnson, but we kept him from reeling off any huge runs. Props go out to Nik Grevious for forcing a fumble on Johnson's longest run of the day. It couldn't have came at a better time. Daniel Bonds was just intercepted and Bama was looking like they were going to get the early edge. Even though our ensuing offensive drive didn't result in any points, it kept the Tide from putting us in an early hole. I also like the great depth our line showed - that will be an asset as the season goes on.

On the offensive side we did pretty well. Once we got the ten point lead I kept the offense pretty vanilla. I didn't see a reason to try to get too fancy and let Alabama back in the game. Wayne Kane had some very nice runs, especially on his touchdown run. He made their top two tackles miss and darted in from 38 out. I also came away pretty impressed with Adam Craft. He did a nice job of spelling Kane late in the game and grinding out the clock for us. Even though Danny threw a pick, I think he had a good game as well. He made smart adjustments at the line and used our timeouts flawlessly. The one area he needs work on is trusting the line to do their job protecting him. A few too many times he bailed out too early.

Special Teams played great as well. Anthony Gore pinned the ball inside the 20 three times, Kevin Carter opened the 2nd half with a 43 yard return, and our coverage units didn't allow any big returns.

We can out of the game healthy, but had a couple of banged up players. Linebacker Ryan Herbert (Broken Finger) and Ronald Pearson (Bruised Shin) aren't expected to miss any extended amount of time.

How 'bout some recruiting talk?

We had a lot of movement with our recruit prospects. Some good, some bad. But I'll take it with a grain of salt this early in the season. However, there's one player I can't help, but get excited about.

Marquis Pierce has been saying many good things about us so far and keeps moving us up on his board. We currently sit tied with four other schools behind the favorite, Texas. It would be a huge boost to get a commitment out of this kid. He reminds me of Ronald Pearson.

We were also able to jump up Mark Scott's list before he cut it down to his final five. Oddly enough, like Pierce, Texas is the early favorite and we're in a logjam with the same four teams. He's a raw prospect at Defensive Tackle, but is very strong. If you get to know me, you'll come to understand that my idea of a Defensive Tackle is a guy who simply clogs the middle on run plays, he's not supposed to be a pass rusher.

Now we look on to TCU. They handled Texas Tech pretty well a week ago, (Tech) whom I think is a pretty solid team, 42-25. The Horned Frogs feature a great Tailback, Marcello Kelly, who ran all over Tech for 191 yards. Overall, they're a solid team and shouldn't be taken lightly.

In some disappointing news, we won't be making the trip with freshman Tight End Curtis Schlicher. I regret to inform that he has been suspended for three games due to academic reasons.

Comments or questions are always welcome.

Week 3: Vs TCU Horned Frogs

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/TCU.gif
Quarterback
Has some mobility, but overall not a real big threat on the ground or air.

Running Backs
As mentioned before, we face another good back here. And unlike Bama, TCU has solid depth.

Receivers
Just a bunch of average receivers, but not one WR under 6-1 and two of them standing at 6-5.

Offensive Line
Their O-Line is very solid across the board. Except at LG, he's a major weak link.

Defensive Line
Good Ends with average Tackles. They have an All-MWC run stuffing LE.

Linebackers
Terrence Henderson is possibly their best player at RLB. He can do it all and won't miss a tackle. Their LLB is solid, but nothing too imposing.

Secondary
Their starting CBs are physical guys, but lack true speed. Their depth has speed, but lacks true covering skill. They run a 4-2-5 and they've got wonderful Safeties to run this defense, led by team captain Jared Parker. Overall their secondary is probably their best unit.

Specialists
Same thing with the Special Team units of Alabama. Very poor Kicker, solid Punter, and will feature their starting TB as a return man

Game Plan

Defense

We should see a heavy dose of Kelly.
We'll look to be physical in bump-and-run coverage as with tall possession receivers, I'm expecting a west coast style of passing.
Scott Muhammad has a great matchup to dominate. He needs to get penetration and stop the run game.

Offense

Feature a heavy run game right up the gut.
Try and beat their slow CBs over the top.
Take what the defense gives you. This is exactly what you'd expect out of a mid-major - some good defenders and some poor defenders.

Special Teams

Kick it away from Kelly.
Force their Kicker into tough Field Goals.

I got 112 plays from scrimmage. Once again, I think I need to up the Quarter Length. Although 81 of 112 plays were running plays, so that leads to more time coming off the clock. Sacks are a bit high, but much of that is to do with their QB trying to scramble a lot. I think 3 or 4 of them were only 1 yard losses.

Madden has basically been a joke ever since they got the exclusive license. I haven't played this year's version, but from I've heard, it's just as bad as the recent ones have been.

OregonDuck1989: Overall I've been favoring the run, but much of that is due to being conservative with a two score lead. We have been able to throw when we've wanted to though.
DarthJaker: Thanks, glad to have another reader.
RedsoxRockies, OregonDuck1989, YEAH DAAAAWG: Even NCAA has slipped a bit. Since the exclusive rights EA just doesn't take care of issues and bugs like they did when having to compete with the 2K series. They made a lame attempt to add medical redshirts to the game last season. What a joke that is. Any player who has been redshirted in a previous season will never have his request granted. It only works for true eligibility players (ones who have never been redshirted). And to top it off, those guys will get their request granted 100% of the time, even if the injury is only 1 week.

Back to the Dynasty...

First though, I see some people trying to get "beat writers" for their dynasty. Is this successful at all? I'd entertain the thought of someone writing a column every now and then about the team. It'd be nice to see an unbiased opinion and another take on a storyline. If you're interested shoot me a PM or hit me up on AIM.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 3
September 16, 2013

I gotta hand it to TCU, they wouldn't quit fighting. To be real honest their talent is only average, but I commend their coaching staff for putting their players in the right position to succeed. They made it tough for us to gain yards on offense and no matter the down and distance I felt like their offense could convert.

My player of the game differs from the Big 12 committee. They chose End Ronald Pearson and his four sacks as their Big 12 Player of the Week, while I chose Kyle Page. Not to take anything away from Ronny, but Kyle had a great game; making eight tackles, one sack, and forcing two fumbles, and we needed it. All around the defensive effort couldn't have been better.

Just another 100 yard game for Wayne Kane. I tell ya, this kid is very good. He hasn't gotten to show off his stuff until this season and he's starting to turn heads. Danny Bonds has done a good job of managing the first two games for us. Some might say he threw picks in each of the games, but to that I say "fiddle sticks", he's completed 62% of his passes and hasn't put us in a position to lose.

No serious injuries to report either. Matt Kimbrough was sidelined a bit with a bruised shoulder, but I've been told he's okay enough to practice today.

Not a whole lot say on the recruiting front. Not much movement this week. We got word on a few more prospects that have cut down to their Top 5. Donte Dukes is one of them. He e-mailed me Sunday to let me know of his decision and that he and his family are planning to be in attendance for our game Saturday night in the desert.

We'll we've got a short week as we'll be heading out to Tempe Friday afternoon, so I best be getting to practice.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

NCAA has slipped a bit but the bugs in the gameplay has always been a factor since they went to the first next gen consoles of the XBOX and PS2.

The medical redshirts weren't in the 360 version of last years game so I have no comment on that but it is a dumb idea. I also remember the XBOX and PS2 versions having recruiting probationary years for absolutely no reason? That always confused me.

The next gen consoles improved the game play by far but there are still bugs and glitches. The Speed Option glitch is a favorite as is the fast quarterback glitch where a running QB can't be stopped (Pat White and Dennis Dixon were made favorites by the online community). The recruiting was also improved on the next gen consoles but it is still not perfect. (I once worked the top recruit in the nation into Nevada during one of my rebuilding dynasties by talking to him for two hours every week...)

I think NCAA far exceeds Madden but yes, it is not perfect.

NHL is probably the best game EA does.

And well I figured you would favor the run a bit with Kane back there (I know I would) but it does look like you are trying to balance it out well and your doing a very good job of it.

I like the aggressiveness of the D a lot though. Whenever I run a team on NCAA I always want a good, aggressive D that forces turnovers. If I can force turnovers then I feel like I have a chance in every game.

Week 4: Vs #22 Arizona State Sun Devils

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Arizona_St.gif
Quarterback
Same story as previous weeks, their QB can run, but has a below average arm.

Running Backs
This is getting to be ridiculous, yet again we face a powerful back who can run. Although "yay" for us they have three power backs.

Receivers
Their starting wide outs are both seniors, both 6-3, and both big time threats in the passing game. They have solid depth, but all are freshman.

Offensive Line
They don't have the most imposing Line, but they're aren't pushovers either. They start four juniors and a sophomore.

Defensive Line
They've got a very nice right side of the line with nice depth all around.

Linebackers
Good news for us, their All-PAC 10 WLB, Keith Love will be out for the game. The bad news is his replacement is no slouch either. Their MLB isn't the greatest though.

Secondary
Overall a solid group, but beatable down the field.

Specialists
They feature two freshman specialists. If their Kicker can connect on PATs he'll be doing good.

Game Plan

Defense

I expect a 50/50 game plan from them.
We need to attack their Guards (their two worst Linemen).
In the passing game we need to shut down playmakers Sean Swain and Jamie Jackson and force those freshman to make plays.

Offense

Run RIGHT!
Look to the middle of the field in the passing game.
Just run our style of offense and we should be fine.

Special Teams

Their WRs are also their return men, we need to contain them.
Really it's simple here, just keep doing what we've been doing on Special Teams.

Forgot to comment on your perspective on the defense. Really I run a pretty conservative defense (and offense for that matter). Control the clock, manage the game, and blitz when the situations calls for it. One forced fumble was on Special Teams (Kimbrough) and both of Page's FF's were on their QB. I usually get shafted with the ball bouncing back to a lineman, but I'll take it. I actually hated seeing all of those sacks (11 of them against TCU). It's not like my guys are getting a fantastic pass rush either, just a normal rush. Their QB would just start scrambling when he didn't need to and get dropped for 1-3 yard loss.

Yeah I get that a lot. Another interesting one is the screen pass for a four yard loss they toss every now and then. It makes no sense.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 4
September 23, 2013

Early momentum won us the game in Tempe, it's as simple as that. Our defense forced some turnovers and that rattled them enough to give us all the advantage we needed to continue to coast to a 32-7 victory.

Even though giving up 32 points, I felt their defense played very well. They only allowed us to score three touchdowns. Wayne Kane continues to put up solid numbers. It's sad to think that he's a senior, we'll certainly miss him. But there's still a lot of football left to play.

It sure is nice to be back in College Station. Saturday we host Baylor. I don't care about their record or history. It's conference time now and anything can happen. They've got a nice Tailback in Carlos Schlicher. With a true freshman at Quarterback, the game plan is simple for us. Shut down the ground game and we should be fine.

We had a couple players drop this week on the recruiting side of things. Derek Stevenson dropped us from his list. We'll have to turn our interest to George Hansbro if we want to get a commitment from a Guard in the early season. Hansbro does like our program prestige. We had to drop Chris McFarland after learning about some character concerns. It's a shame, he's a very talented player. Donte Dukes is very interested in where this program is headed, though his still lists the Longhorns as his favorite. Overall not a whole lot of action this week either.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

Week 5: Vs Baylor Bears

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Baylor.gif
Quarterback
They start a true freshman behind center. He should be a good one some day, but that day isn't today.

Running Backs
Their whole offense revolves are Carlos Schlicher. He's not as good as the backs we've faced so far, but on the same lines; fast, powerful, and a big time threat

Receivers
They have a bunch of decent receivers, but nothing to be worried about.

Offensive Line
The interior linemen just aren't good at all. Our backups could start for them and we don't exactly have the greatest depth. But their Tackles are both very solid.

Defensive Line
Their top pass rusher is out due to a suspension. Not good for them as without Nigel Davis we should have no problem on the ground attack.

Linebackers
They have four Linebackers in total (two FR and two SR). How this is possible I don't know. But they run a 4-2-5, so this is likely why.

Secondary
Their DBs are much like their receivers, a bunch of decent players, but nothing imposing. Their two starting Strong Safeties are their best defenders.

Specialists
Both kickers have solid legs, but both very young. Schlicher is their return man.

Game Plan

Defense

I'm not sure what they'll do, but I know they'll be looking to get Schlicher's hands on the ball some how.
Our DTs need to take care of their week interior line and force Schlicher to bounce it outside.
Pressure, pressure, pressure. If we can force the young freshman into mistakes we could see some INTs.

Offense

Run, run, run.
Don't force any passes, take what they give you.
Run, run, run.

Special Teams

Special Teams have been great so far.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 5
September 30, 2013

A tough pill to swallow. That's how it feels tonight. Now I usually write up my blog just prior to Monday's practice, but today I just couldn't. I received some disappointing news this afternoon. That news, our top target Donte Dukes is no longer considering us in his recruitment. This comes as a big shock, I thought we'd be in the final three at least.

It doesn't get any better as we learned (either by choice or Admissions) that Will Carey and Adam Walker won't be attending Texas A&M. Still, overall, our recruiting efforts are doing just fine. Safety Dan Newsome says he thinks he'll be ready to start scheduling his official visits soon. He ranks us first, well ahead of Oklahoma, LSU, and Florida State.

Nothing much to say on our win against Baylor. We expected to dominant the game and we did. Watch out for them in the future, they have some young, talented kids there. This week we face Oklahoma State who is coming off an overtime 34-40 loss against Tech. They have an explosive offense, we'll have to have a good week of practice to shut them down.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

Week 6: Vs Oklahoma State Cowboys

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Oklahoma_St.gif
Quarterback
What's with it with all of these running QBs? Their QB is more of threat to run it then in the passing game.

Running Backs
We're facing a speedy, shifty, good hands Back. Screens, Tosses, Shotgun Runs - that's what we'll be seeing.

Receivers
Not a whole lot of speed or much quality depth, but the West Coast scheme seems to be working.

Offensive Line
Their leader at Center needs hold this injured, plug-n-chug line together.

Defensive Line
Their DTs are comparable to ours, but their Ends, well they're average at best.

Linebackers
They have two great LBs which make up for their best defenders in David Freeman and Greg Hopkins. Though their WLB is a true freshman and not a very good one at that.

Secondary
Solid DBs here, but with our receivers they're very beatable

Game Plan

Defense

I expect a lot of finesse runs to get their Back out in space.
A lot of Gun formations is to be expected. We'll need to be physical to stop the quick passing game.

Offense

Run right at their WLB (left side).
With two very quality LBs this may be a game where we have to rely on the passing game more than usual.

How do you make playing the games so realistic? I'm on heisman and still putting up crazy numbers, but it does make things boring after awhile.
The OP describes my game play.

Overall it starts with playing within the spirit of football. This means not taking advantage of how easy deep passes are, not dropping back 20 yards, for the most part hitting the correct holes on runs, blitzing in moderation, and so on. Do I throw it deep? Sure, but's it's in a realistic situation. I'm not throwing it deep in triple coverage because I know chances are my guy can still come down with it. On runs I don't automatically bounce it outside and get the 100% beatable angle on defenders. On defense I'm blitzing about 25-35% of the time (a realistic amount). Mostly it's about throwing money plays out the window and not AI glitching. If it can't realistically happen in real life football I'm generally not doing it in the game. Also once I get big leads I stop going for the jugular and just call a basic game just to get it over with like any real coach would.

I had 3 long scores from scrimmage. Here's why. On Fletcher's score, I just got the ball on a fumble and was looking to run Play Action. Back side WR was running a post while Fletcher ran a Fade and the blind side TE, a drag. As soon as I rolled out I noticed man-to-man coverage and Fletcher simply beat him. On Kane's TD run it was a simple Iso, 3 hole run up the gut. My LG and FB got on the second level very quickly. LG took the MLB and I made a move off of the FB's block on the FS. All that was left was the SS and the move I made was enough to throw him off balanced as Kane darted into the end zone. Miller's TD was nothing more than a Post. The CB missed the tackle and the Safety made a diving attempt, but just missed.

Then it moves onto adjusting the sliders so that the computer gives me the most realistic game possible. I can't speak much on that except it really needs to be toned to the user.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 6
October 7, 2013

Well we totally dominated Okie State. And honestly that's not what I expected. I thought it would be a tough battle down to the 4th quarter. Personally I think they stuck to the run a bit too long, but we'll surely take it. Andrew Ferguson was all over the field. He played phenomenal! And how about Wayne Kane? Heisman anyone? He's yet to be held under 100 yards and just continues to make a big play when we need it.

Jay Vincent and Tyler Greer both dropped us from his school choices, but we did get an official visit scheduled with Dan Newsome. He'll be visiting in three weeks when we host Kansas.

Sorry that this blog is short, but I'm a bit under the weather and still have to head to practice. I'm looking forward to my first Big 12 road game.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

Week 7: Vs Texas Tech Red Raiders

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Texas_Tech.gif
Quarterback
They do exist! QBs who aren't overly fast and can throw. And boy can this kid throw! Kind of like a Jeff George - big arm, but only average accuracy.

Running Backs
They feature a power back as their starter and a shifty guy as the backup. Nothing too imposing, but hardly are they slouches.

Receivers
Their WRs aren't the greatest, but they appear to fit the system quite well.

Offensive Line
Their line isn't the greatest. Our D-Line can over power them easily. The right side is much stronger than the left.

Defensive Line
Solid D-Line, but we can have success against them.

Linebackers
Rich Taylor is a true stud at WLB. Their MLB is their weak link, while their SLB isn't too shabby either.

Secondary
Much like their WRs, they DBs aren't amazing, but they can get the job done. They start a true Frosh at FS.

Game Plan

Defense

Even with a big arm, since their line isn't great, I expect a west coast style of passing
If they run, it'll likely be to the right side.

Offense

Run the ball up the gut.
Try and take advantage of man-to-man coverage against the FS.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 7
October 14, 2013

I have to give it to Texas Tech, they never quit. Even when they were down 42-7, they kept fighting. We actually had to put our starters back in during the 4th quarter after pulling them to get the younger guys some real game experience.

Wayne Kane was phenomenal. 230 yards? Are you kidding me! He certainly isn't the biggest and he may not be the fastest back in college football, but I'd put bet him as having some of the quickest feet in the game. He hits holes quick and hard and just really knows how to set up his blockers.

All-around we played very efficient football. If we keep playing like this I don't know who can beat us. With that said, we have a huge test next week as we head in to Lincoln to take on the Cornhuskers. They were tripped out by Missouri, but handled Oklahoma State and scored 35 on a good Ole Miss team. We'll need a good week of practice.

A couple injuries to note. WR Jim Davis and LB Ryan Herbert both left Saturday's game with injuries. Jim with a bruised sternum and Ryan with a bruised shoulder. Both are expected to play against Nebraska, but will be limited in practices to protect against aggravating the injury.

On the recruiting front, we lost a couple of recruits; Marquis Pierce and Derek Stevenson. But we did get to schedule a few more official visits. Along with Dan Newsome, Joe Harris, Chris Young, and Aaron Dargan will be in attendance against Kansas on the 26th. Our lone remaining recruit to schedule a visit is Mark Scott. Being that we've lost out on all other offensive and defensive linemen, getting Scott would be huge.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

Week 8: Vs #15 Nebraska Cornhuskers

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Nebraska.gif
Quarterback
We get the good old fashion Nebraska QB. Fit the option QB perfectly.

Running Backs
Senior Kyle Gore is fast! 4.3 40 fast. Solid depth behind him, but no one else is a game breaker.

Receivers
Robert Mixon is one of the nation's best receivers. Other than him, there's no real threats.

Offensive Line
Fantastic left side of the line and center. Right side leaves something to be desired.

Defensive Line
They feature two solid, run stuffing DEs and a NT with first round NFL talent.

Linebackers
As if it was actually supposed to get easier, their SLB, Sean Wagner is the heart and soul of the defense. He's their version of Andrew Ferguson.

Secondary
Their secondary has some good players, but overall not a whole lot of speed.

Game Plan

Defense

Watch out for a running attack to the left side.
Put some pressure on the QB from their right side.

Offense

Running will be tough and a true test for Kane this week.
Test their secondary's below average speed by throwing deep.

Even though this game features two top ranked teams, it will not be on TV due to Nebraska's NCAA sanctions.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 9
October 25, 2013

You may notice my Monday blog isn't on Monday. I've just been real busy folks. It's a very exciting, but yet stressful week. If you've checked out our recruiting page recently, you'll notice we have four players coming to visit this weekend. To be exact, they'll be arriving this afternoon with their families for a tour of our facilities and campus. So, sorry to you all hoping to hear about my thoughts on Nebraska, but I'm past the point of wanting to discuss the Cornhuskers. We won, we're moving on. But I'll definitely talk about our recruit prospects.

But first, I'm pleased to announce that we have nine players on the Award Semi-Finalist Lists. It's a great honor for these young men. I'd like to point out one player that I'm surprised has been recognized, but at the same time tickled to death that his play has been seen to help us greatly. That player? Anthony Gore. Anthony may not have a booming leg, but his deadly accurate. Over half of his punts have landed inside the 20-yard line. He'll play a big role if we encounter a very close ball game.

Our first recruit to schedule a visit was Safety Dan Newsome. He's extremely excited about the visit and we are too. He's 6-3 215 and runs a 4.49 40 yard dash. He just has that "it" factor. On top of being a good on-field player, he's an excellent student and citizen off the field. Next we have Fullback Chris Young and Tight End Aaron Dargan. Chris has the potential to develop into a blocking back, but right now he has the skills to succeed as a runner. He'll need some schooling on blocking as he was the Tailback for his high school team. He's smart young man and realizes his position in the college game is at Fullback. Aaron is a strong, blocking Tight End. He has the room to grow into a solid goal line target. He doesn't miss assignments very often. Linebacker Joe Harris is our top ranked recruit visiting this weekend. He's a sure tackler and reads plays very well. So there's what we have in store for the weekend.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

Week 9: Vs Kansas Jayhawks

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Kansas.gif
Quarterback
Solid, seasoned senior QB, but nothing too imposing with his feet or his arm.

Running Backs
They don't really feature a top tier Back, but they have solid depth.

Receivers
Much like the Backfield, they have solid depth, but nothing to fear too much. Although starter Adam Brown is 6-5.

Offensive Line
Solid O-Line that much resembles our Line.

Defensive Line
Chris Burnette is a top rush artist, from the RE spot. Overall they have a solid line.

Linebackers
Marvin Morris is the leader of the defense and a sure tackler. They have great depth here as well.

Secondary
They have very good Safeties, but only average Corners.

Game Plan

Defense

Be prepared for a balanced attack.
Keep playing our style of defense - Fierce and Aggressive.

Offense

Identify their top threats on the pre-snap read.
Try to isolate their Corners on passing plays.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 9
October 28, 2013

Well Kansas sure put up one heck of a fight. It wasn't until I gambled on a fake field goal pass that was intercepted at the 1 yard line that we really took control of the game. As it turned out we were able to put the pressure on their offense and Andrew Ferguson came away with the sack for a safety. I was very impressed with the play of our secondary. Their QB, Perry Wright, seemed frustrated at the early deflections and it really threw their rhythm off.

So, to what everyone really wants to hear about - our four recruits that visited. Well none of them committed just yet as they want to take some other visits first, but we did get "soft verbals" from each. As a coach I can only take that as if they declined to come to A&M until I get that phone call saying, "Hey coach, I'm gonna be an Aggie." I feel we sit pretty well with each prospect, but I just don't want to jump the gun.

We've got one heck of a battle this Saturday. We head into Norman to take on the Sooners. Boy I'll tell ya Andrew Ferguson is fired up for this game. He was passed up by his home state school and really overlooked by a lot of schools (three star out of high school). He was very vocal during our morning lifting session. I can't help but think he's gonna have a huge game on Saturday.

Comments or questions to the coach are always welcomed.

Week 10: Vs #5 Oklahoma Sooners

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/mattynokes/NCAA/Oklahoma.gif

Matchup At A Glance

Team Texas A&M Oklahoma
Rush Offense 156.0 (28) 159.1 (24)
Pass Offense 180.5 (108) 257.5 (43)

Rush Defense 70.8 (11) 82.1 (25)
Pass Defense 148.8 (6) 203.7 (33)

Quarterback
Aaron Mangum is quite possibly the best QB in the Big 12. Pro talent written all over him.

Running Backs
Their starter is hurt, but the feature a duo of solid Backs in reserve.

Receivers
Jake Sullivan has been compared to Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers. He's not real big, but he's tough and a big time play maker. Their depth behind him is rock solid.

Offensive Line
LG Kyle Frederick is an All-Big 12 type of player. The other linemen are just average. Their Center is a true freshman.

Defensive Line
Both Ends are pure pass rushers. They quite possibly have the best starting DTs in the land.

Linebackers
MLB Ryan Stewart is a do-all type of Linebacker. He's flanked by two other Backers with NFL talent written on them as well.

Secondary
Their secondary is amazing. Mike Gunn is a shutdown corner, Lou Cronin plays more like a Linebacker than a Safety, and junior Free Safety Lee Patton was awarded 1st Team All-Big 12 honors a season ago. Their depth at CB isn't the greatest.

Game Plan

Defense

Put pressure on Mangum.
Wrap-up the ball carrier and limit big plays.

Offense

Take advantage of their #2 CB.
Control the clock to keep their high octane passing game off of the field.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 10
November 4, 2013

I don't think the stats show exactly how tough Oklahoma's defense really is. On all four of our scores of 25 yards or more, we beat them on blitzes. Those four plays made up for 46% (or 195 of our total yards). If you're doing the math along with me, that's 230 yard of offense minus those plays. While they sure did make their share of plays off of blitzes; all three turnovers, some errant passes, and sacks, the difference was we won those battles more than not. Our defense played amazing and OU was definitely hurting without starting Tailback, Ryan Maynard in the lineup.

We move on to a Missouri team that got whooped by Colorado last week 51-7. I'm not sure which Missouri team we'll set on Saturday, but I'm gonna prepare for the team that beat Nebraska 31-17 earlier this season. It's going to be a great battle and we need to stay humble of our ranking. It doesn't mean squat until the BCS Selection Show airs.

It's all smiles from me on the recruiting front. We got for commits this morning; Joe Harris, Chris Young, and Dan Newsome. Under my personal policy all will redshirt next year, but I'm excited for their future as Aggies. Young could be competing with Dustin Lopez for the starting Fullback job in 2015. We're very deep at Outside Linebacker and Harris will only make us stronger there. We're losing two Strong Safeties in Anthony Davidson and Anthony Jones. Newsome looks like he'll be able to contribute right away as a redshirt freshman.

Aaron Dargan was in attendance as his official visit to Oklahoma over the week. I guess that bid well for us (haha)? He's told me he's still waiting to schedule his visit to Missouri. I've been informed that isn't going to be this coming weekend, so it should be at least another two weeks before we hear his decision. The fifth member of our pursuit list, Mark Scott has scheduled his official visit with us. He'll be attending November 16th's game against UTEP. He told me he was impressed with our performance last week against the top ranked Sooners. Rivals has him listed as all three of Texas, Oklahoma, and us being equal interests for Mark.

Rush Defense 65.5 (7) 82.8 (20)
Pass Defense 153.2 (7) 198.2 (30)

Quarterback
Bryan Bass has a very good arm and is quite mobile.

Running Backs
Although they don't run a whole lot, when they do, Rasheed Graham gets yards.

Receivers
They have solid receivers all-around, but don't have any game breakers.

Offensive Line
A pretty young, but talented line. LT Paul Franklin is the lone senior.

Defensive Line
They have very good DE's but they aren't great against the run. DT Randall Weaver may be the best inside guy in college football. He has the speed of a pass rushing DE and can clog the middle like you'd expect from a 6-5 300 DT. Their depth isn't good at all behind Weaver.

Linebackers
Solid, speedy Backers. Strong side is their weak link.

Secondary
Nothing too imposing in pass coverage, but the Safeties can hit.

Game Plan

Defense

Contain the QB.
Keep playing how we've been playing.

Offense

Run right and to the outside.
Should be a good day to pass on average covering Secondary.

Coach's Monday Blog: Week 11
November 11, 2013

What an amazing game! Both defenses played as good as you can play. I'm real impressed with the way senior captain Andrew Ferguson stepped up with his four sacks. And oh boy Kevin Carter came up huge on defense and returning kicks for us. It's nice to see a freshman step up like that for us. Missouri has been blasted a bit by the media about going for two points instead of tying up the game and sending it to a second overtime, but I can see why they'd go for the win. They just got torn apart by Colorado a week ago, we were the #4 team in the nation, and would've had to have opened the next series on offense. Sometimes rolling the dice works, sometimes it doesn't. Lucky for us, it didn't work.

Good news on the recruiting front, once again. Tight End Aaron Dargan has decided to commit without visiting Missouri. He told me we were the favorite all along and he just wanted to see if Missouri would schedule him a visit to consider all options. As it didn't happen we're glad to add him next season. We have Mark Scott visiting this weekend versus El Paso. He'd be a nice run stuffer in the middle of the d-line. He's 6-4 280 right now, but scouts tell me he has the room to grow into NFL optimal Tackle size.

I got an e-mail on Friday from a fan on our previous ranking.

lebsoccer02: Coach, how do you feel about being ranked behind a 1 loss Georgia team, and how could this play out for you down the stretch with National Title game hopes? Are you behind them in the BSC ratings as well?

Well, your question was pretty much answered with this week's new rankings. But in retrospect I saw it like this. Georgia's only loss was to Tennessee (who at the time was a top ten team) and the Bulldogs have played great since that game. Up until the Oklahoma game our schedule just wasn't as good as Georgia's. But looking at what we have in store for us - three ranked teams; Missouri, Texas, and the Big 12 Championship game. That should give us enough of a strength of schedule to propel us ahead of Georgia (as it already did) and possibly even higher if the wins keep piling on. If we go 13-0 I don't see how we can be left out of the National Championship game.

Matchup At A Glance

Team UTEP Texas A&M
Rush Offense 121.7 (60) 105.5 (26)
Pass Offense 313.1 (9) 181.7 (109)

Rush Defense 115.4 (51) 66.6 (7)
Pass Defense 330.9 (119) 162.5 (8)

Quarterback
With senior Marc Stanford out, UTEP will have to rely on the mobile J.R. Miller to get the job done.

Running Backs
John Swain is very quick, but not an effective inside runner.

Receivers
There Receivers aren't great, but they feature a lot of possession guys, led by 6-4 Shaun White.

Offensive Line
Their line isn't overpowering, but are very athletic.

Defensive Line
They run a 3-3-5 and let's just say it's a good decision with their lack of skill up front.

Linebackers
Without captain Joe Choice their Backer unit is really hurting

Secondary
They have a solid and experienced Secondary led by senior Tyrone Simmons.

Game Plan

Defense

Bump Receivers at line of scrimmage
Don't over pursue in the ground game, stay in your lanes.

Offense

Attack their front six with a heavy dose of Kane.
Use the run game to open up the down field passing game.

Ok, so I'm torn on what to do. I haven't posted an update in a long while and here's the scoop. As soon as I posted the UTEP Game Plan I went in to play the actual game. My area was hit with some pretty heavy ice storms and with 30 seconds left in the game our power went out. And stayed out for 3 days. My college was closed down for those 3 days as a result of the storms and for the past few weeks classes have been real busy.

I didn't stay at school during the power outage and went home. There I started up a Wyoming Dynasty just for fun. I simmed 3 years and then have started playing. I'm not too far into 2011, so I could stop this A&M dynasty and post my Wyoming one.

I still like the A&M dynasty, but I've found building the team back up has been easier than anticipated. That's most likely to do with being in one of the high school talent rich states. I also didn't anticipate on the Aggies being this good in my first season. I expected to go something like 8-4. With the Wyoming one...recruiting? What's that? I get like 10-12 recruits per season. It's real tough drawing players when you're out in the middle of nowhere, have no talent rich states close, and are turning in 6-6, 4-8, and 5-7 seasons. I think I have like 58 players on my roster.

While I find the Wyoming challenge fun, if my readers would prefer to stick with the A&M dynasty, I will. I'd enjoy playing either. The A&M one would pick up right where I left off. The Wyoming one would be pretty basic for the remainder of 2011 with just game recaps and some recruiting insight, but then once in the off-season, it'd look just like this one.

Let me know what you readers would prefer to see.
