I'm new to BBM and I've really enjoyed reading about everybody's dynasties in these forums. I was wondering if anyone had figured out yearly simulation settings so, for instance, if you were re-playing 1968 it would still be "the year of the pitcher" as opposed to what happens when playing on default settings. Any help by veteran gamers would be greatly appreciated.

Just lower the Home Runs to about 80, raise Ground Outs, Line outs, and Flie Outs to 110, Triples to 95, and that should work out ok. maybe even go lower with the homers. And, just so you know, the mods will likely move this to general discussion, not that that is bad.

Thanks for the advice. I've been messing with the settings since getting the game and my brother actually found some pretty realistic settings for 1969 thru 1976 which makes playing a dynasty in that era much more fun. I started with the 69 Pilots and I finally have the Brewers in 1st place late in the 1976 season and just one of my players is double figures in home runs and my team is hitting around .255 for the season but we're still in 1st place. The games are tight and good pitching rules. My closer (Gene Garber) had an ERA of under 1 in 1975. You don't see that playing with the default simulation settings.
In my previous post, I was just using the '68 season as an example of a hugely different era as compared to the default settings. Anyway, I'm surprised there hasn't been more response to this subject. Everyone seems so into BBM, I would think finding some statistical accuracy based on the different eras would be on everyone's mind and there would be more ideas or formulas floating around these forums.

As a matter of fact SEH, I'm working on a colossal simulation settings project right now. I first developed a widget containing the RL league stats from all 108 seasons and space to put in numbers from SIM league stats for all 108 seasons and compare the two to come up with factors, which are then plugged into the various sim settings categories before the start of each season. For example let's say a RL season produced 4500 HR across the major leagues and it's corresponding SIM season produced 5000 HR. The factor for that would be 4500/5000 = 0.90. Thus, you would enter 90 (as it represents 90%) in the HR box in Sim Settings for that year and so on. The widget can be found in the Baseball Mogul : Mods section about half way down the first page.

I've completed 1901-1915 so far and am running a sim using the sim settings for each year as I obtain the results. I'm pleasantly surprised with how well they're working so far...dead ball era and all. 1908 is about the early year equivalent to 1968's year of the pitcher and my settings achieved a result somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3.5 or fewer runs per game for 1908 (quite a respite from the 5.0-5.5 you normally get eh?). I have modifiers for In Play Outs (Ground, Fly, Lineouts), singles, doubles, triples, homeruns, walks, strikeouts, hbp, ibb, bunts, gdp, and stolen bases and caught stealing (which were insanely high in the early days with little to no regard for sb%: it was just get on and go). I will be posting the first quarter (1901-1927) settings when they're done (hopefully in a week or so) in the mods section. Without hesitation I'd say that if my settings can nail 1908, they can get 1968 right as well. Just about to make the transition from the dead ball era to the more lively '20's and '30's. 1930 in particular should be interesting as it's kind of the early equivalent to 2000 as two of the most offensive seasons in history.

I intend to post a spreadsheet listing the settings for each year of every quarter until I reach 2008 and then maybe post the encyclopedia for the 108 year sim so people can wade around in the actual results. The outliers like Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth may get compressed a bit with this method (although Cobb still managed to hit .396 one year), but for me it's about getting the league totals reasonably right. It's nice to see pitchers come through with ERAs under 2.00 during the lean offensive years (I think the lowest I saw so far was Ed Walsh's 1.62 during a year he also led the league in strikeouts and wins). If Clay could give me a way to manipulate the number of errors for these early seasons there would be more due to the kleenex box gloves that the players used back then. I believe the average in the early seasons is something like 2 errors per team per game, which could create a larger difference between league runs/game and ERA, thus lowering (potentially) the ERAs of studs like Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, Mordecai (Three Finger) Brown and Grover Cleveland Alexander (Old Pete) even further.

Hopefully, 1968 will be done soon enough. Take care, enjoy the game and welcome to the forums.

Play in PBP "Player" mode...u do the pitching - the pitchers do well! (Check out our Canajun Ehs pitchers sorted stats - inlarge part the reults of operating in "Player" mode)
