feedback.

Good?? Horrible??

How different (it's GOTTA be way different, given the number of years and technology leaps since Fallout 2).

I loved Fallout and Fallout 2. Loved em. Is 3 so different that it may as well be a new series??

I saw it today on the shelf in Target and almost flinched ($49.99, I still can't bring myself to do that for a game. LOL, yet I would pay $499.99 for a baseball game with real life like and challening AI. I'm an idiot).

I'm sure it's gotta be getting close to when that number drops, and since I trust you guys on here pretty well, I thought instead of reading reviews from folks I have no clue about I'd ask here.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

I have it for PS3 and it is one of the best games better. Have never played the others in the serious, but I hear it has the same storyline. The graphics are WAY better, that is for sure. The Windows version is more customizable then the PS3, you can edit maps, make scenarios, edit people, etc. I almost wish i chose it for windows, but even without the customization it is AWESOME! It is not easy, but it is not hard to learn. I think you will like it.

Is 3 so different that it may as well be a new series?? For the most part, yes; it uses the same engine as in Oblivion. I played through once; I had been playing so much at one point that I'd see the gameworld in my sleep! Now I'm waiting for the third expansion pack, which will extend the main storyline before picking it up again; I suggest you also wait until that's released before getting it. The level cap is so low that one of the first mods added 10 levels; there's another one that adds 10 more, doubling the cap.

I found the first one on an abandonware site and gave it a try. Fallout 3 has a much more intuitive interface.

Will there be ANY expansions for PS3??

Doesn't look like it. It all comes down to potential sales, and since there are a LOT fewer PS3 owners out there than 360/PC owners, it doesn't look good.

Cool.

I knew I could count on some replies here.

Thanks an awful lot. I know it must get old dealing with an old man, but I really do appreciate it.

On a side note (:D) I just HAVE TO SHARE THIS.

I just now, like 15 minutes ago, won my first ever DOMINATION VICTORY in Civ IV. Never done that one before (I still haven't had a conquest or cultural victory, only victories I always seem to get are score, space race, or diplomatic).

Anyways, it was a cool new movie that played for a domination victory. Never seen it before. Now it's gots me wondering about a conquest victory movie, that must be AWESOME. :D

Plus, it got me my new Hall of Fame High Score, rated as, oh hell just as I'm typing now I've forgotten the name!!!!! Man gettin old is a *****. It was like the fourth or fifth name down on the list. Best I've ever done.

Felt real good about it too until I saw the thing come up saying I had spent 81.05 hours playing it. :( Man I need a life.

The cumulative time I have spent playing Call of Duty 4 multiplayer is measured in weeks. I shudder to think how much time I've sunk in to Europa Universalis 2 or Dawn of War. Or Steel Panthers...Jesus, if you added up time spent with every game in that series, it'd probably come out to about a year.

Thanks AB. Not only do you bring lots of laughs with some of your posts, now you bring peace of mind knowing I'm not the only one wasting what little of his life is left away in front of a computer screen (usually a lot of cussing and bitching occurs in front of that same computer screen, and recently throwing my mouse, but I "fixed" that :D).

Is there a clinical name for what we're suffering from??? I'd say stupidity if it were only me, but if there's more than me, it must be something else.

Just to be specific...I checked my COD4 account...I have officially surpassed 21 days of active gameplay time. :D

I have no idea what to call what we have, but it doesn't seem to be an affliction I can shake.

I'm also relieved to find out that I'm not the only one who spews foul language at game characters who aren't 'real' when they offend me.

Oh, and to get this back to something resembling 'the point'...Fallout 3 is a pretty nice game. Probably worth checking out. It doesn't bear much of a resemblance to the first 2 games (I also enjoyed those), but I found it to be a pretty good game overall, and a game with a lot of options.

I could play against you on multiplayer.. What difficulty do you use? I am at Prince now and thinking of moving up. My best HOF score was 2nd or 3rd from the top. But yea, victory wise I have won Space Race, Diplomatic, score, and culture. Domination is hard!

I have been interested in Fallout 3, but I never even got through an hour of the first one. Might as well play that for $5, and wait until FO3 is $20 or so in a year. No hurry.

There are so many games I need to get to and finish - the Baldur's Gate series and Icewind Dale, MOO3, X-Com, the new Colonization, all the space sims I bought. I don't even get time to play BBM anymore.

If I added up the time I spent over the last 10 years playing Final Fantasy (any), Colonization, X-Com, Diablo, StarCraft, MOO2/Alpha Centuari, Baldurs Gate, and especially COUNTERSTRIKE - I would probably have a year or so. And a year of valueable time, when I'm young and decent looking. Sigh.

This past year I've played less than ever - some Wii here and there, but everything else faded away. There's so much to do out there - music and shows and plays and opera and bands and jamming and dinners and girlfriend and fairs/vacations/weekend trips- I just don't get the same time to goof off like I used to.

It almost makes me want to go back to being single and boring...just to get the time I want to play video games.

Anyway...end of derailing rant.

I do recommend F3 a lot, I'm playing through my 2nd time now and it's still a lot of fun. I have it for the 360, but I just downloaded it for the PC because it offers lots of mods and stuff that make the game a lot more fun and enjoyable. Also your question about it being like 1 & 2, well..no it's not. It's a mix between a FPS and RPG rather than the top down tactical view of the past, however the rest of building up your character and adding perks & skills is all there.

If you do get it, go PC and never look back.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be much to play with multiplayer. LOL, in fact I've never done it, so don't know how.

Besides, every player that plays it is above me. I play on Warlord level.

Yeah, it's pretty easy, but I get so aggravated (at ALL THE CIVS, it's my BIGGEST complaint about ALL THE CIVS. 2, 3, AND 4) when you bump up the level of difficulty, the AI doesn't play smarter. The AI cheats. And that's just not fun.

Also, the AI basically cheats in solo games anyway. Even if you set it up at the one that's supposed to be the same for both the player and the AI as far as building and research goes, the AI cheats because all the AI civs trade techs so that you are researching against 5 or 6 others that are "pooling". So I play on Warlord, I have fun, and I stay there.

I bump it up, and am minding my own business and doing nothing wrong and a Civ declares war on me because the sky is blue (only reason I can ever think of), then because it cheats and can pump out military units faster than AIG can hemmorage dollars it's just not fun. I turn it off, cuss, and throw things.

It's another great game, that they just did the bear minimum for AI. And have decided that's all they're going to do, because in their mind having the AI cheat is a good enough way to make it harder.

When you change AI settings on Chess, the AI doesn't get 5 queens and 6 bishops. It just plays smarter.

I almost bought it, but $49.99 is just too much. I'll wait until I can get a "Gold Edition" for $49.99 that includes all the expansions or until it comes down to $19.99 or something.

Plus, my computer (desktop) is a 2002 model. I read the box and was pretty sure I read it right that my system meets the specs, but then someone above said it runs the Oblivion engine and I could've sworn I looked at Oblivion some time ago and my system didn't meet the specs.

But, it might be my old age messing with me again. I'm making mistakes like this more and more often now. I think I should print out my specs and take it with me to the store when I go as that may be the only way I'll be sure to not get it wrong.

Recently I bought Tiger Woods 08, and I just read the specs AGAIN and checked mine AGAIN and my specs meet the minimums (actually are better), yet it won't install. I've tried it like 5 times and it gets to a certain point and says "Can't install file so-and-so" and lets me press Cancel or Try Again. I press Try Again and it tries again, but to no avail.

I'm getting to the point where I'm not going to be buying anything else I guess.

You're not the only one. :)

LOL, good to know.

I'd also like to know if I'm the only one that finds the AI's way of "improving" (cheating) frustrating. I could stand to lose to an AI that was "smarter" and made better decisions. But losing to it because it can research techs in 1/3 the time I can and can build stuff 3 times faster than I can is just not fun. Not fun at all.

One of my pet peeves in gaming has always been the AI that just cheats on higher difficulty levels...it's frustrating and annoying. BTW, I've recommended it before, but if you like Civ style strategy games and you hate cheating AI routines, you might enjoy Galactic Civilizations 2 from Stardock. I've had it since Christmas, and it's a great game. Everything is fully customizable, including the AI...and it doesn't get 'cheats' unless you set it to. Check it out HERE (http://www.galciv2.com/). I really would recommend buying the Ultimate Edition, which is the game and both expansions...it's $39.99 right now for download from Impulse, but you can also find it in retail outlets. There's a final (free) content release planned for later this year that will work for anyone with at least 1 of the expansions on their system, too.

And, if you'd rather not spend money, there's always Civ : Evolution (http://c-evo.org/). Basically an open source remake of Civ 2, but with everything custom for what you want, INCLUDING being able to download and install multiple AI profiles. You can set every single nation to a different profile if you want. None of them cheat, either, but many of them are damn nasty.

So, what's happening when you try to install TW? Is it the installer that isn't working, or the game itself that won't run once it's installed?

Secondly, if you're ever wondering whether you can run something, I'd recommend THIS (http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest) site. It installs a little Java app on your system. Then, you pick what game you want to test your computer for, it looks over your system specs, then grades your machine against both the Required and the Recommended specs for the game.

I combat the AI cheating by specializing cities, using smart diplomacy, and unit specialization

Ive always said Bioshock was the best game I have ever played, until Fallout 3 came out. I cant even level on that game anymore and I just love the exploring factor in it. Just awesome. Good storyline, fun side quests I couldnt get enough of that landscape.

I have to say with the expansions, ive been disappointed with em. I thought Alaska would be open exploration, and pretty much Pitt you really cant explore. But making your own ammo is pretty neat.

A 40 Minute Pod Cast about the New Fallout New Vegas game. Sounds like its going to be good, you will be able to mod weapons this time and also not only is there Karma, but you will have positive and negative influences on gangs in this. (Sort of Like GTA).

The beginning of the game sounds very good to, as you wont be the typical vault dweller, but the game takes place after you've been shot and left for dead in the desert.

Yeah keep in mind that was February, by the time I finished the game I was around 80. I can't wait for New Vegas either, #1 on my wish list this year.
