I like the new college draft. However, I do have a suggestion. We as owners should be able to see who is available to draft before the actual selection process begins. As it is now, the college draft is generated, then any picks before yours is made, and it stops at your pick. By knowing who is going to be available, I can decide if I want to trade up to an earlier pick, or trade out of the first round entirely.
For example:
Lets say that the college draft pool was generated first. Then the option to re-sign my own players came next. By knowing what players are available, I can decide whether I want to re-sign my 30 year old for $3M, or draft a specific 21 year old for $1.5M. Then I can trade draft picks/players to make sure I'm in position to draft the player I want. Then once all the re-signing is complete it could ask if I'm ready for the draft to begin. That way I have the option to trade into that #1 pick if I need to.
Under the current system, I spent a season stockpiling 3 second round and 5 third round picks. The once my picks started I found that there were no good players at the positions I needed to fill.
Just a suggestion. I think being able to know how skilled the upcoming draft class is before you have to select may influence how you trade or sign veterans.
What do you guys think?
