Can someone please tell me how a multiplayer league works?

You are given a team, and you can make trades and sign free agents, along with 31 other human owners. All changes are usually made through an online forum that the commissioner creates.

There is a head commissioner, who is usually in charge of simulating weeks at a time. You input your roster and starters, and he'll make the changes in his file. After he simulates, he uploads the file on to your online forum, where you can download it, see what happened, and make changes.

so the game does NOT have a TRUE multiplayer function...

No, at least not in the traditional Madden sense.

i was playing the demo and i was surprised to find that there is only about 16 plays for inside run, outside run, short pass, long pass ect. is the playbook extended past the limited options in the demo?

it's got the same 2 running sets, and 3 passing sets. But, you can edit your own plays, and make your own 'books' that way. it still has only that number of 'play slots', but it's nice to tailor them for your toeam. And, you can 'switch playbooks' in the middle of a game, so can utilize multiple playbooks.
