In addition to scouting individual players, is it possible to get a report on a team, before you play them?

Thanks for the answer but it got me thinking. When I start a new game with a new team is there a screen that gives me a quick overview of the team's strengths and weaknesses? I remember seeing somewhere that one of the 'trading' screens has this but I can't remember exactly where

I'm not sure about the trading screen thing.
The new game screen does include the team overall score(s) that are shown on the standings screen.

In the Standings screen, you can click on the gray title buttons and select different things to display. I like to view Batting Rating, Defense Rating, Rotation Rating, Bullpen Rating, and Overall Rating during the off-season. Once the season starts, I switch to Win/Loss Streak, Last 20, Runs Scored/Game, Runs Allowed/Game, and Overall Rating.

Oh, and for scouting your next opponent, go to the Lineup or Pitchers dialog and select the other team. And when you're done, there's a handy "home" button to switch back to viewing your own team.
