Within 2-3 minutes of turning it on USA has already made 2 or 3 mistakes with one resulting in a goal and it's now 2-0 :|

If it gets out of hand like the Spain v Netherlands game I'll probably just turn it off soon, so let's hope it doesn't get to that point.

What's the point of posting in a thread about a sport you're obviously not interested in? But I guess hating on soccer is a very cool thing to do, so keep on doing your thing.

Back on topic, yeah USA is getting schooled today. I hope they advance to the World Cup though.

Why watch this game? Its like watching the Patriots play a High School Football team. The US has no business playing soccer, great international game, but no way are we competitive at all.

Even the goalie made a gesture where he is sucking on his thumb, thats the international gesture of saying that we are cupcakes, and basically we are batting practice.

We're actually ranked #14 in the world.

We're not near the top in terms of Italy and Brazil talent. But we're getting there. For thirty years we didn't make a world cup, now we are the best team in the North and Central American region

And to be ranked 14th isnt saying much, sorry but Brazil owned today, I believe in the first half we had one shot on goal to their 12. In soccer, that is total domination, we are not getting there as far as I see.

14th is saying a lot considering where the US was twenty years ago...

We expect every sport we play in that we should dominate and when we don't we "have no business playing in it". It's arrogance, honestly.

When USA basketball wins gold...it's expected. Anything less is a disappointment . Each loss in the WBC is doubled for the US as they should have "the best players".

Why can't we just realize we're not the best at something and that we have to grow it? Soccer is a fast growing sport, sure we've never won a world cup. But neither has Mexico or Canada or Sweden or Portugal. All countries who love soccer.

We just expect greatness out of American teams and when one loses to arguably the BEST team in the world we get upset.

We have business playing the game, we're actually pretty good. Are we one of the world's best? No. But, we're still growing. Twenty five years ago we were one of the world's worst teams.

I personally think soccer is truly enjoying to watch. For those who don't like watching it, you obviously don't know anything about it.

Kind of like why I don't like watching hockey, I don't know much about it so I don't watch it. I have to admit though, I enjoy going to Blues games and watching hockey matches live. TV ruins it for me.

Not arrogant, realistic. I dont expect to dominate in every sport, but I dont believe people should be saying we are getting there on the same level as Brazil either, thats arrogant in itself.

Sad state of affairs. Not only did our team look dreadful, but we got people who hate on soccer so much that they won't even root for their own country...

Seriously, is there any other sport that is so free-fire hated in this country? I mean, swimming is a fine sport, but I don't watch it. I don't hate swimming. I don't go out of my way to post in swimming forums about how much I hate it and how boring it is. I don't regularly see ESPN dingbat anchors cracking snide jokes about swimming. People don't call in to loudly proclaim how they don't like swimming on Jim Rome or Tony Kornheiser.

Give the U.S. some credit for once, they beat Egypt 3 nil when they absolutely needed to do that. They got help from Brazil, but the U.S. played outstanding against Egypt (who, if I'm not mistaken, played like world cup contenders against Brazil and Italy) and did what they needed to do. Congrats to the U.S. team and I hope they pull out a win vs Spain.

The win raises our international credibility a little. I think this raises our profile after the disaster called the '06 World cup, just enough to put too much pressure on the team for the '10 World Cup.

The U.S. guys really transformed from a bottom feeder into a world contender after this tournament.

They beat Egypt 3-0 when they absolutely had to, beat the #1 team in the world (Spain), and led by two goals over the always top world contender Brazil. Yes, they let it go against Brazil, but you couldn't have expected this performance from the U.S. before the tournament.

They are no longer push-overs (as you can see from their performance in this tournament). They showed great development and this experience (playing in the S. African conditions in June and playing on the level of World Cup contenders) will only help them come World Cup time next June.

Congrats to the U.S. soccer team (for once).

Now for the Gold Cup.

The US national team did gain a lot of repect for the way they played in the last 3 games from football (thats soccer to you) fans everywhere. In the UK for example the commentators all agreed they have an incredible work rate and team chemisty. It did seem in the second half they tired a bit, but Brazil are one of those teams who can play poorly, but still grind out a result.

I've had a lot of respect for your national team for a few years now, and they really have made forward progress. I know many Americans are not interested in football, but your team really did you proud.

Compared to the hype they got and fan support lost...it was at the very least a major disappointment.

They scored 1 goal all tournament. The goal against Italy was an own goal. That was also a poorly officiated game and ended with 10 men for Italy and 9 for the USA.

They were ranked top ten going into the tournament in 2006. I didn't believe they were that high but I expected A LOT more. Certainly not 3-1 to Ghana and 3-0 to the Czech

Rankings don't mean that much Spain have always been in and around the top 10 and until recently always underperformed at Major Tournaments, normally making it out the group stage and then getting beat in the first knockout round. Plus with the rankings it's normally based on the teams you play to qualify for the main tournaments so if you're playing Greenland and other awful teams and always make it the the finals you'll gain more points towards your ranking.

Spain is a top ten team though right? I mean like you said they underperform. The USA was a major disappointment coming away from 2006. They were outplayed heavily 2 out of 3 games and got lucky in the 3rd against Italy. Their group was tough and I agree it wasn't a huge disaster but you have to admit it was a major disappointment considering the hype they got.

You think the hype the US got was huge move to England, the press here thinks England will win every World Cup, European Championship and I'm so glad when they don't. The problem with the US team is they probably don't play decent teams often enough, I remember 2 summers ago they were invited to the Copa America and sent an "B" squad.

Oh I know I was in England for the 06 World Cup. They were so harsh on the team when they lost to Portugal in PKs. I mean a tough loss for any team but England yikes.

And I think your right. The toughest competition the US gets on a regular basis is Costa Rica and Mexico.
