A Pedro start + an inside the park homer due to stupidity + an unassisted triple play = most interesting game of the year????

Man Vicotrino is an idiot hahahahahah :D

In this instance, by letting the ball sit at the base of the wall while Pagan rounded second and third.

While I didn't see the play yet, each report I've read said that the ball got STUCK between the base of the wall and the padding, and Citi Field (inexplicably) has no rules covering such situation (which is usually a ground rule double).

I highly doubt any MLB player would just let a ball sit there while a runner rounds the bases...unless, of course, he CAN'T pick up the ball.

Are they serving Dos Equis at the game?

No, they are not serving Dos Equis there, so it OBVIOUSLY is not the most interesting game of the year

That's giving some players maybe a bit too much credit

Exactly... he'd be yanked out of the game immediately for that, and since he wasn't, I'm going to guess that kellys11 was watching the game while standing on his head or something. Or maybe was drinking a little too much with ragecage.

Here you go (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=290823121):

Pagan's drive to left-center got stuck under the padding of the wall briefly. Center fielder Shane Victorino threw his hands up, looking for a ground-rule double, as Pagan slowed into third, but second base umpire Rob Drake allowed play to go on and Pagan raced home for his first career inside-the-parker and second leadoff homer of the year.

I wish I was pounding back some Rye and Cokes.

Players should know the rules of the park, therefore it's his fault.....thanks for the great idea, I'm getting a drink.

Okay, so, say he knew the rules of the park....which are....there are none for this situation. What should he have done?

He did what he was supposed to do. When a ball gets caught in the fence, in every park except, apparently, Citi Field, you're supposed to call the umpire. I don't hold it against Victorino that he apparently didn't know that Citi Field didn't have a rule covering that play like every single other park.

I think most of us consider Houston a more valid source then you, no offense. Score 1 for FTB/RSR

If the fielder who picked the ball up had left it alone the umps would have come out, seen where the ball was and might have ruled it a ground rule double, calling the runners back. once the left fielder touched the ball it became a live ball. He, the left fielder, had no chance to make a play so I think he should have left it alone and taken a chance on the umps ruling in thier favor.

The problem was that Citi Field has no rules covering stuck balls (although I'm sure that'll be amended now). So, the umps saw him call for them (which he did by throwing his hands up) but had to rule it a live ball, which is what they did.

I see...Kruk said it was in the ground rules on ESPN, I had not heard that corrected.

And even then you can't take his word on the salads.

Of coarse out of any team this year...the Mets would lose on a triple play

Wrong. It happens all the time. The Mets don't have any sort of peculiarly bad luck this year.

LOL. It's either "The Mets are so unlucky! Now can you all admit that we're the unluckiest team ever! They're so unlucky! None of this stuff happens to other teams!" to "The Mets have no bad luck."

Gotta love the craziness.

I said this in the mlb thread, but the ball would have been very easily picked up and fielded.........as it was.....victorino wasted more time throwing his hands up rather than just picking it up....which he was able to do very very easily....good calling by the ump...and not just bc of the ruling, but bc the ball was very easily playable and it wasn't stuck.

HoustonGM
08-24-2009, 01:51 AM
And like I said in the other thread, in any park with the generic ruling, the umps would've ruled it a ground rule double, because there is no way to tell from 200+ feet away whether or not the ball is stuck "enough".
