What did you major in in college? Or if you haven't gone yet, what are you planning on? (just curious)

I'm only a sophomore in high school, but I'm thinking Engineering or Psychology

I started out as a political science major. Then I changed to a psychology major. Then I changed to a finance major. Then I changed to a communications major and decided to stay with it since it's such a broad major that you could do a lot of things with.

I started researching when I was a sophomore as well, and there were literally over 25 majors that I thought were interesting and I could see myself pursuing, so I didn't have a choice I was overwhelmingly passionate about.

Either way, you typically don't have to declare your major until after your sophomore year of college anyway, so keep learning new things and a new passion could grow out of them.

Broadcast Journalism major but if I had to do choose anything else it would be Poli Sci. My politics classes are always the most interesting to me.

I was originally an English major. That lasted almost a year and a half. I was an Economics minor my entire time - that stuff was always interesting.

I switched to Computer Science, becuase I had become a TA in one of the beginner classes and had a real knack for software thinking. I also was seeing English/Communications majors graduate, and not be able to make $30k out of school - while some CompSci guys were hitting $55, $60k or more, even leaving school without the degree.

Eventually I stopped going to classes (higher-level Calc and Physics did it to me), so I went to Comm. College and then another university, taking more programming and higher math classes (discrete II, etc). Then got a great job and stopped going, again. So I am officially a never-finished...but have 4+ years of education under my belt. :)

I was close to switching to broadcast journalism as well. The friends I had that chose it as their major had great classes.

It's a great major to be in if your passionate about journalism, video editing, the radio, anything.

I work with KCSU on their sports team and as an occasional fill in DJ and it's been nothing but fun to be on the radio. Easily my favorite medium of mass communication.

I plan on majoring in Computer Science. Like AOW said, those who graduate with a degree in it tend to make a decent amount of money right out of the gate. Plus it's in one of the few industries that isn't struggling to do well in this economy.

Too bad your dynasties don't count as class credit.

Finance

I don't recommend it. I'm considering a masters in social work from Columbia when we get there

Started in engineering, switched to comp sci/mathematics so I would have more time for my minors, poli sci and history (almost got a minor in philosophy too).

First degree is in physical geography - a very interesting degree, though not as practical as some other similar degrees such as Geology or Geophysics. My graduate degree is in economics.

My advice is to take something that you find interesting - as your grades will be higher and changing fields for graduate school is relatively easy if you are going that route. Also, if you are going on to graduate school, math and/or a foreign language are the two prerequisites that are hardest to fake - so if you don't know what you want to do in the future try learning a language (in school or elsewhere) and take 1st and maybe 2nd year math if you have any aptitude for it.

Right now Sports Management, but I'm also interested in Neuroscience. So depending how I like Sports Management, I could see myself switching to that.

Business Administration, but i wish i had done history.

I love history. I could minor in history if I thought it would be worth it to my career choice.

I'm taking World War I history and Post WW1/WW2 history this semester. Absolutely loved US History Post 1876.

My GF is finishing her PhD in Neuroscience in November (knocks on wood). I edit all of her papers and publications. It's immensely interesting. There appear to be a lot of good positions-job wise-when you get your degree. So long as you go all the way to PhD.

Business Administration and Marketing with a minor in Accounting...which is completely irrelevant to my job now.

Mass Comm and Journalism would have been better (but I would have needed to go to a different school to do that) since I'm trying to get back in radio and newspaper now.

Started out majoring in Chemistry (loved it in high school, hated it in college), switched to Math, then moved to Statistics when I was asked to prove that 0 did not equal 1 (theoretical math does not thrill me).

Had a great professor for my intro stat course, and stayed with Statistics until I graduated. Of course, Statistics has nothing to do with any job I have done in the last 15 years or so :)

Started in Sport Management (they stopped the program when I was going to start it) so I switched to Business Management for a year, didn't like that so I switched to Education (I always wanted to go into education, but was attracted to making money so went into business). I started in Elementary Ed, but I love mathematics so I wanted to take a bunch of math classes. I switched to a Mathematics/Secondary Education major which is what I am almost finished with!

I am planning on teaching for 5 or 6 years then getting a masters in administration. My goal is to become a superintendent - big $$$ compared to teaching. The gap is WAY too large.

But those aren't really on the same line

That's why I said "lines". I'd either do one of those things or something similar to one of those things.

Kinesiology/Sports Studies....wanted to be a sports broadcaster. In fact, I had three years of it at University of New Hampshire. Did play-by-play and color of football, hockey and basketball, as well as having my own sports talk show. It was a blast....and now......................I work in retail management
