The process of developing as a male or female is complex and subject to error, or variation if you prefer. Not everyone fits neatly in box "F" or box "M". Makes it tough for sports.

How sad that someone excels at something i.e. outrunning other good runners, and be pilloried so...

The process of labeling and sorting is complex and subject to error, or variation if you prefer. Not everyone fits neatly in boxes. Makes it tough for life.
not fixed, but...expanded
EDIT: In the interest of full disclosure, and total honesty, and a request, Lex Logan did not, I repeat DID NOT, make the preceding quote. He made a similar quote which I modified (as indicated in bold).
I fully understand that use of bold does not traditionally indicate edited text, so I hope this EDIT to my post clears up any confusion which anyone may have had regarding Mr. Logan's actual statement which follows.

Excuse me, but bold does not indicate edited text, merely emphasis; the traditional method is to place [] around text which does not appear in the original quotation. Please edit your post so it does not appear that I made statements I vehemently disagree with. Better, just eliminate the quotation and say what you want under your own name, not mine. Male and Female are not arbitrary labels, even if not everyone can be easily classified, and your statement reeks of PC mindlessness.
