Below you will see Ken Anderson. In this game he was drafted by Washington and quickly became their starter. In 1974, the last time I checked on him, he was rated 92.

The year is now 1978... Washington apparently dumped him into FA after '74 ... and he's taken the last three years off.

Assuming Anderson didn't have a catastrophic drop in ratings followed by an astronomical comeback, why would Washington dump a 92 QB, and why would any of the other teams have let this guy sit for three years?

It's not finances. Only 2 or 3 teams of 26 are in remote trouble cash wise, and of the seven teams I checked, all could afford him in their payroll budget.

It's not the strength of the league - he could start for 25 of the 26 teams... and team 26 has an 85/91 starting QB.

So it's now 1981 in the same league, AI still controlling all teams.

The good news is Baltimore picked up Mr. Anderson in the 1980 season.

The bad news is the NFL's taken away his 1974 record - though his career totals seem to include 1974..not to mention several other phantom seasons.

Anderson was a dynamo for Baltimore. Apparently he played for the Colts AND 49ers, playing in a total of 31 games. Too bad all he threw for Baltimore was interceptions....

In 8.01, the AI didn't work well in years without a salary cap. I've fixed this and I'm posting 8.04 as an unofficial patch.

In case one doesn't like unofficial patches for whatever reason, Clay's comment got me thinking and I tested it.

If you add a salary cap to the early years (if you want it to be realistic, you can use (x/1000 x 128m) where x = the inflation level for the year) then the free agency AI acts just fine.

Thanks for the testing of it. I guess we would have to add the salary cap each year after until it actually takes effect. I was hoping Clay would fix his 8.4 patch post so we could check it out......................................Z
