When loading the 1976 season, Jay Novak a TE for the Tampa Bay Bucs is 13 Years old, I know that cant possibly be right.

Novak is 23 entering the 1976 season. He was born on 6.6.53. He came up with the 75 Bengals and retires following the 77 season with an incredible 188 yards receiving, 1 TD lifetime.

Thanks for catching this. Sean Lahman did an awesome job pulling together historical stats for Football Mogul. Unfortunately, football data still isn't as reliable as baseball. For example, there are other sites out there with similar errors:
http://www.databasefootball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=WHITESTA01
Anyway, I haved fixed Jack Novak for the next patch. Please post any other age errors in this thread and I'll fix them in the master database.
Thanks!

Clay,
You better check the database all together. I played the 72 season and after the season - the draft had some very familiar names in it. Too bad half the draft had 35-36 year old rookies??? Who is going to draft a 36 year old rookie.

Who is going to draft a 36 year old rookie. But are the player ages actually correct? Football Mogul will put players in the college draft in the year that they were actually rookies. Some players didn't go to the NFL right out of college, due to the CFL, USFL, or just because they didn't have the talent to play. I think this is the best assumption to make in order to have accurate careers for such players.
However, if you want a player to be drafted earlier, I have posted instructions in this thread (http://www.sportsmogul.com/vbulletin2/showthread.php?t=198292).

Redid the 72 season - in the draft there are 13 players over 40 years old, 17 from 35 to 39, 31 from 30 to 34, 13 from 27 to 29, etc. There is a 15 year old also. At least 60 percent of the draft is 23 years old or older. USFL was around in the early eighties and CFL just did not have enough talent to water this draft down.

This is a good thread to post actual age errors. But the draft logic is a different subject. Football Mogul is programmed to load players into the draft in the year when they were rookies. If it isn't doing that, create a bug report in this forum.
If it is doing that, but that logic makes too many older players, then a post in the Suggestions forum would make sense.

It looks to me that the older rookies are players that the database makes up to fill out rosters.

In the 1970s, Mogul needs to fill in the draft pool with fictional players in order to have enough players for 7 rounds. I've changed the code so that these fictional players are now younger.

Is this in a patch?

That's strange that there wasn't enough since the NFL had more than 7 rounds back then?

That's strange that there wasn't enough since the NFL had more than 7 rounds back then? :confused:Like with the baseball database, we only have stats for players that played in the NFL at some point. Lots of players were drafted and never recorded a stat, so we have no info for them.

So the Fictional players added are going to be 6th or 7th rd talent?

In the 70's there were around 18 rounds to the NFL draft, but there were only 26-28 teams with rosters of 40-45 players, so a lot of guys that were drafted never played a down.

It looks to me that the older rookies are players that the database makes up to fill out rosters.I have posted (http://www.sportsmogul.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1387780#post1387780) new 'Rookie Database' files, eliminating the older fictional players that were causing this problem. Let me know if you think this is an improvement (I've only tested 1973 and 1982 so far).
