View Full Version : Dynasty Mogul

After my super-complex innovative league not getting far off the ground, I'm going to try a super-simple innovative league. The premise:
The week schedule looks like this:
Day 1: Offseason
Day 2: Offseason
Day 3: Sim until trade deadline
Day 4: Off for deadline
Day 5: Off for deadline
Day 6: Sim until playoffs
Day 7: Sim through playoffs
We will start in 1901 and go through a year a week. Playoff results will be logged as the measure of GM achievement. We will not need to keep a full complement of GMs due to the fast pace of the league, so we should be able to start soon. I am also looking for one other commish to take a team in the opposite league from me, and we will each handle the AI teams in the other league. Trade moderation will be relatively strict, but we will be using equalized ratings, not perfect ratings, so things will not be exact. I will also take steps to prevent simming - the same ones I used in New Wave Mogul.
Once I get strong commitments from 10 GMs (post here) I will post the forum link, but I want to assess interest first. This will be more casual than the usual league, as the commissioners will handle AI teams. While we will try to be impartial, and will not handle AI teams in the same league as our own, it is less hyper-competitive than other leagues. Other details: we will use player agents and a system of randomization to determine what players walk to free agency and which are willing to re-up, all in an effort to foster realism over powergaming. You will need Baseball Mogul 2010 with the latest patch, and AIM (required).
If you want to build a dynasty, and watch the ebb and flow of teams over the century, join up and fight for your spot in the Hall of Fame!

One thing I should mention is one major consequence of the league being so fast-moving. GMs will be judged on results. Trade moderation will be reasonably tight, and I won't prevent any new GM from joining, but equalized ratings will give you ample opportunity to make bad trades and ruin your franchise. Don't be surprised if you are let go after five years under .500. So, to sum up: since the league moves so fast, we can give GMs a long leash to make their own decisions, because a franchise can be turned around in only a few real-time weeks. However, you will be accountable for those decisions, and activity does not guarantee a job. Realism! Who's excited!?

I'm working with cfeedback to finish the forums right now. There will be a link up later tonight, and as soon as the forum goes live, trading and everything else will be open. We will have tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday as the trading/check-in period before the first sim on Sunday (possibly Saturday night depending on how fast people check in and get active).

Congratulations to our Baltimore Orioles on their division title, led by sweet-swingin' Billy Hamilton, the stalwart Little Napoleon, and hotshot young gun Harry Howell. We have no doubt that our Baltimore boys will set those Philadelphia upstarts down in short order.
Please disregard all rumors about our Baltimore boys getting up and goin' to the Big Apple. That would be plain un-Christian!
We hear that the Philadelphia GM is on the hot seat after his bosses found out he "led" his team to a World Series appearance from his deck chair in the Bahamas! They haven't heard word one from him since Opening Day.
The Washington Senators GM is stepping down for lack of time. Boy, those poor Senators just can't catch a break!

The Baltimore Orioles are the 1901 World Champions! The Phils took the first two games but the fightin' O's came roaring back to take four in a row.
2B Bill Keister responded to being bumped up to the #3 spot in the lineup by hitting an even .400 and being voted the Most Valuable Player in the series. Philly pitchers vented their frustration by hitting him three times in six games.
New Oriole Billy Hamilton notched his 900th steal and ended the season with 950 on the money. He is the all-time leader and it's not close.
Pirates star Honus Wagner got base hits in 34 straight games! That's what we call a streak!
Cy Young got his 300th win. He trails Kid Nichols (also active) for the all-time lead, 328 to 304.
The Pirates made slugger Fred Clarke the richest man in the game when they signed him to a 3 year deal at a whopping $23,000 per year! Clarke did hit .373 this season, but wow!
The NL Champion Philadelphia Phillies announced the firing of their first-year GM Mr. Blue today. While his team captured the NL pennant, they did it almost in spite of a GM who made no moves at all for the entire year. This leaves a front office opening in one of the powerhouse teams of the era.
Other openings for prospective general managers include the aforementioned Washington Senators, the Chicago White Sox, and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Free agency update. FA is still open and the offseason is continuing!
We need two very good GMs to take over two bad teams - the just-moved St. Louis Browns and the Washington Senators. It won't be easy, but we move fast, so rebuilding isn't that painful.

We currently have no vacancies, but we have a fair bit of turnover due to realistic hiring/firing processes. Post in the sign-up thread to get your spot.

1902 trade deadline sim. The Orioles have a solid but not insurmountable lead in the AL, while the NL is looking very competitive this year. The big surprise is (sorry, Jrsy) the Philadelphia Phillies, who went from World Series losers in 1901 with an absent GM to eighth place at the deadline in 1902 with a very good one.
This year's draft included pitchers Eddie Cicotte and Chief Bender going in the top of the first round, to the Nationals and Athletics, respectively.
Christy Mathewson has put up 245 innings of 2.13 ERA ball so far and is a big reason why the Giants are only a game back of the surprising Cubs in the tight NL pennant race.
John McGraw has bounced back from his down year in a big way, hitting .365 to lead both leagues.
Jesse Burkett has pounded out eight home runs to pace the Cardinals. That's as many as the whole Cleveland Blues squad has!
There is a fast-closing opening for a canny GM in Washington. The last candidate went AWOL just after expressing strong interest, so get in quick! If you snooze, you lose!
Phillies GM steal third's job is secure, but he's certainly hearing it from the Phillies fans! But seriously, they set his house on fire. Our condolences.
Pirates GM Manny is on the hot seat after some carelessness with the finances sunk his franchise into 30,000 dollar debt! If he can't get his house in order, the Pirates may look for someone who can.
Applications should be posted in the sign-up thread.

The powerhouse Orioles are going to the World Series again, this time to take on a scrappy New York Giants club. There are rumblings that Orioles GM SrMeowMeow may look for a new job in a search for a more challenging position. The Nationals, Superbas, and Cardinals should have lots of interest.
Jesse Burkett launched 15 home runs this season in only 115 games, a career high. He led both leagues.
John McGraw and Mike Donlin led the majors in hitting, posting .361 and .353 marks, respectively. They are a big reason the Orioles are where they are right now.
Christy Mathewson got his Giants to the World Series on sheer force of will. His 22 wins accounted for over a quarter of the Giants's 81. He also led the majors with a 2.34 ERA.
On August 14, Boston's Bill Dinneen threw a perfect game against the Giants, striking out five.
And in the thrilling finale to one of the most compelling storylines of 1902, Pirates GM Manny managed to stave off bankruptcy with a flurry of deadline deals. His current cash-on-hand: $326. But hey! he keeps his job.

The Giants leveraged a stunning 14-inning win in Game Two to split the first two games and rode the momentum to a Game Three home win, but the 93-win Orioles club was too much for the 81-win Giants and rolled to three straight wins and a second consecutive World Series.
Young Orioles ace Harry Howell took MVP honors in the six-game set, with as many earned runs as complete games (2).
Rumors about the future of O's GM SrMeowMeow continue to abound.

Free agency file. Teams open: Baltimore Orioles, Washington Senators, and St. Louis Cardinals.
The Orioles have just won back-to-back World Championships and a new GM will get to decide whether or not to move them to New York as the Highlanders.
