I hate "Magic"!!!

Ok I dont hate "Magic (http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1722/Magic-the-Gathering-Duels-of-the-Planeswalkers/p1/)" but man I am pissed. With the help or rage and the trial version I am totally hooked on Magic. However I am pissed. I cant beat the white deck. On the campaign I have to play against Elspeth with teh white deck. She is killing me every time. I started to use the white deck to counte her a little because the "Angels Feather" was KILLING me with the +1 life every time a spell is played. Well I thought I had he last game... we both had 8 guys played but each of us had 3 feathers out (I had 3 most of the time while they had 2... so I was up in lives like 48 to 42 at some point. Voice of All (his was 3/3 mine was 4/4 so I was pecking away 1 life at a time) Thi went on forever... like FOREVER... we got down to maybe 30 to 26 or something liek that and I made a booboo... I played teh 1 card in my hand. Keep in mind we have both played I think at least 15-18 land cards, and I am down to only 15 cards in my deck.

I nearly cried... I had spend 1.5 hours pecking away at this BlTCH who had killed me over and over and over and over agin... Green was my color... but she destroyed green every time, like Ali in his prime against a 150 year old midget with polio, and scoliosis. I blew it... they then spring a 7/7 card on my about 5 moves later and anialated me... lik 65 to -1. I dont think it quite hit 70 but I am pretty sure it was well over 60 :(

we both had the Angels feathers and werent attacking each other until like 30+ lives and even then it was only 2 damages and every card we played was +3 life for me and +4 for them. we both dropped a Serra's Embrace on one another then they pulled a 7/7 (Don't remember what it was and had Holy strength on it...) lol I imediatly droped a pacifier which if it had happed to me would have sent me thru the roof lol. the only other guy I had was 5/6 so it would have killed me. we had so many cards out it was sooo funny... by the end I had all 3 Angels Feather (+1 life every white spell mine AND hers, because we were both white) and I had 3 Glorious Anthem's (1+1+ on EVERYONE I have who is White) and they had 2. It was total standoff... cause they could have killed my guys off by doubling up on them, then in 2-3 turns after I made a big dent they could have dropped like 30+ lives off my total

Man TNP, I had some difficulties with white when I was green, but I owned her once I got the +3/+3 and trample to all creatures into play. You just need to get a good draw with green and she should be easy.

Wait until you play the Black deck with all her cards....brutal.

I guess I'll post this here.... it's a story of how I won a draft. I wasn't in love with my deck and didn't expect to do well. It was a triple Zendikar draft. I drafted R/W. I manage to win the first two rounds and am impressed by how well the deck is performing. I cruise to victory in the first game of the finals match, killing him within 6 turns I think.

Game 2. We trade blows until the life totals are 8-6 with him in the lead. I have on my board four creatures:

1/4 that can't attack
3/2
2/1
5/2.

He has:

five 1/1's
2/5 that can't attack
3/3 flier
2/2 flier
3/2
2/2

I've also got 4 mountains, a plains, and a Zektar Shrine Expedition (http://magiccards.info/autocard.php?card=Zektar%20Shrine%20Expedition) with two counters on it - one more counter and I can pop it for a 7/1 haste with trample. He attacks with all 9 of his creatures that are able to. I play Arrow Volley Trap (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/2.html) for its 1W trap cost. I split the damage among the two fliers.

I block the 3/2 with my 2/1 and the 2/2 with my 3/2, leaving the five 1/1 guys. I block two of them with my 1/4 and 5/2, taking 3 damage to go down to 3 life. He plays Journey to Nowhere (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/14.html), exiling my 1/4 (not sure why he went with that guy instead of my 5/2, but it'll prove to be a critical misplay as you'll see in a second).

In my hand I have a mountain and a Windborne Charge (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/38.html), which won me a game in an earlier round. I draw....a plains. I play it, activating my Zektar Shrine, creating a 7/1. I cast the Charge, pumping my 5/2 and 7/1 and sending them to the skies for the victory! Prize was four packs!

He probably made an error exiling your 1/4 and realized it shortly afterwards. Thats kind of the beauty of the game, when it gets down to the nitty gritty one key mistake and you can pay dearly by taking major damage or losing all together.

On campaign I had two enchantments each one dealing two damage each time a player discards, I also had the card which makes you discard two cards and he had 4 life. My luck I got too excited and played it, realizing when I made the move he had no cards in his hand. Long story short, It turned a 15 minute game into almost an hour and I still managed to hold on to win, but mane bonehead move.

I feel very satisfied after that draft. When I first signed up on MTGO, I was doing really well. Played 3-4 drafts a day all weekend without having to invest more money. My limited rating (starts at 1600) got up to 1660 or so. Then, I went on a nasty cold streak. My rating dropped down to 1603 and I had to spend money to keep playing. I took a break from drafting for a couple days while I focused on building my pauper (common-only) decks as cheap as I can (and testing them out, not sure how I feel about the two I made, and don't really feel like making any others).

Then, today, I decided to draft, spent all but 4 tickets on the packs and the entry cost to the draft (2)...was very down on the way the draft went. I started off with red and green, but green dried up immediately, so the first pack sent my hopes crashing. I had some decent red cards, but no secondary color. Mono-red works very well in Zendikar draft, but, I didn't have enough I thought. The second pack I start off with a solid red card, then get passed an Emeria Angel (http://magiccards.info/autocard.php?card=Emeria%20Angel) and take it, and also got the previously mentioned Arrow Volley Trap. Red kept flowing and I kept stocking up on it. Third pack was more of the same.

When building the deck, I tried to go monored, but if I wanted to, I'd be forced to play sub-par cards like Hedron Scrabbler (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/204.html). I only had two playable green cards. In white, I had the Angel, Trap and Charge, along with Kor Hookmaster (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/20.html) and Makindi Shieldmate (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/26.html). I didn't like splashing those five white cards very much, since three had double white in their cost, so I thought it'd be hard on the mana base. I ran four Plains and a Kabira Crossroads (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/216.html) and managed to get the white mana when I needed it (at the last possible moment in the recap I posted above ;)) so it worked out well. Windborne Charge won me two games. Emeria Angel won me another. Suffice it to say, if I didn't add the white, my deck probably would've sucked like I was expecting it to. But, in the end, I rolled through the tournament without losing a single game....very satisfying.

Nice playing HGM. The last time I played was during the Kamigawa block. Only the first series came out and I had a nice R & W deck based on trample creatures, re-directing damage to my creatures, and direct damage. My favorite deck was a G & B deck based on a Verdant force, G worms, and black sacrifice. It got stolen at a party along with most of my cards that were in my backpack.

It depends on the format. In Zendikar draft, red and black seem to be the most popular colors, but that's because the strength of their common cards. In other sets, that's different.

I don't think so, at least not as of yet. About 2/3rds of all cards are available on MTGO. The earliest set released on MTGO is Mirage. They're currently working forward from there to fill in the sets that haven't yet been released, with the latest "old" set released being Stronghold (Exodus next at some point). I suppose then they'll do the Urza block and Mercadian Masques block (Invasion onward is already online). They've also released 3 "Master's Edition" sets, each of which are an assortment of old cards. Masters Edition 3, the newest, is made up mainly of cards from Legends and Portal: Three Kingdoms. Popular old cards like the dual lands are available in the Masters Edition sets. The Masters Editions sets have numerous cards from Revised, Ice Age, Alliances, Legends, etc.

I believe that they have no plans to release sets prior to Mirage in full, though. They stated that they decided to make Mirage the earliest set released online because it was the first block (Mirage-Visions-Weatherlight) designed with both limited and constructed in mind, and also the first designed as a whole block of 3 sets. The Masters Edition sets are a way for them to release older cards while maintaining the validity of both limited and constructed (since they choose cards for the sets with an eye towards both formats).

I actually just realized that it didn't make a difference. Had he exiled my 5/2 minotaur, I would've had the 1/4 and the 7/1. Windborne Charge them both, the 9/3 attacks. He was at 8 life so that would've been enough.

What'd you play? Zendikar drafts?

If you draft an ally deck right, it definitely has the potential to be very powerful, but you have to get somewhat lucky to get a lot of allies in two colors (three color can work as well but its clunkier). I haven't drafted an ally deck yet, but a lot of decks I have drafted have had a handful of them. When an ally deck gets running though and starts dropping allies every turn, it's definitely hard to beat.

Ah okay. Well, yeah, with the cards you get on sign up, your decks are gonna be really weak against Allies and anything else :p. Try opening the Planeswalker pack that they give you. It's a bunch of Gold-bordered cards that can only be used in the New Game room under the Planeswalker format - and ONLY those cards can be used there. There's a decent amount of powerful cards and a wide variety of decks you can make out of them. It wore off its welcome with me relatively fast but it's a good way to just play some Magic for cheap.

I was sitting pretty for the most part, he had two enchantments which made me put 4 cards in my library into my grave yard every spell I played. I had him down to 5 life to my 39. I drew another Dread card and I was thinking to myself, alright its over now. Then the sob had another card to take over Dread, then proceeded to play back to back the card which makes me discard half of my deck into the graveyard which doing so left me with 7 cards, and two 1/1 characters on the board.

I quit immediately so damn upset, as this game took over an hour.

Yeah TNP, you should go with Red instead of Blue. Blue is very weak. I actually made an Ally deck this weekend consisting of Red, White and Green. Pretty nasty but still not good enough, I have to do some tinkering with my sorcery and instants.

With decks its all a work in progress, you might think you have something but then when you play you see things that dont work that well.

Went 2-3 in my first tourney, luck have it that I had to play the only other dude with a RDW deck. Close games but I got swept.

Though my record isnt great I never got beat badly and lost most of my games when I was one move away from taking care of my opponent.

The best one was when I swept a dude I was playing, and both games I won 20-0. He was very upset and just made it awkward. But w/e be a prick and RDW. :)

Tickets are used to either enter tournaments or buy from bots or other players. To buy from bots, go to the Classified section (community menu, i think, don't have mtgo open), and you can search for a specific card or just browse through the bots and open a trade with one of them, and they have automated instructions to follow. (other people also have ads in classified, its usually obvious when the ad is from a person or a bot, though)

DPA is the "Planeswalker" set, I believe, right? Those cards are gold-bordered and can only be used with each other and played in the "Planeswalker" format.

The Planeswalker set is a way for them to let new players play with some "high powered cards" that don't have any actual value because they can't be traded/sold or used in real formats.

You can sort by set to view only the Planeswalker cards, but I don't think there's a way to view all non-Planeswalker cards, unless perhaps you sort by format and choose Classic. I haven't tried that.

hmm having played dozen upon dozens of combo, red white is one of those one then never seemed to mesh well out side of odd card combos.

They sytles seem to always go in different directions, red overly agressive, white overly passive.

Ive made decks invloing combos such as Orcish artillery/CoP:Red, Orish Spy/Petra Spinx, Millstone. Goblin Decks that inculde White to help with defense (Castle Holy Str, banding, etc.)

Mainly though they rarely seem to work well.

So the red and black seems a better idea... I like the fast instants of red but the compounding interest if black or white... (even green a little).
Like in black there are cards that make all your say vampires get +1/+1 or something like that. I know red and green is good for that because they both have "warriors" taht can work together to get that.

You have to be carefull againt who you play tho because if you say play against red they can instant to death your 1-2 cards that make everyone strong and then you are stucck with a ton of 1/1 and they have giant beasts out lol
