no way can he play a serious role.

It's a comedy. Which is probably for the best, to be honest.

this is true....it probably is for the best.
I have a feeling this movie won't live up to the hard core baseball fans expectations, while being too in depth for the non baseball fans.

in the moneyball world, wouldn't Depodesta be the comic relief anyways?

Yeah, Moneyball a comedy?
I read the book, and loved it (both times ;) ).
But, honestly, I was having a hard enough time trying to get my head around it somehow working as a movie, period. Now, as a comedy? That's even harder to imagine.
Possibility one: the writers brilliantly adapted the book into a screenplay, and it will be great.
Possibility two: Hollywood got a hold of, and subsequently screwed up, a perfectly good book.
Don't know about anyone else, but my money's on the latter.
Bleh. Too bad. :(
Oh, yeah, and, either way...

I heard they have a lot of people playing as themselves, like Scott Hatteberg. I can't remember the other names.

Seth Rogen will be playing Adam Dunn
Elliot Gould will play commissioner Bud Selig
Adam Sandler will play Jason Giambi, with lots of makeup and weight pads
Michael Cera will play Billy Beane's teenage son
And other non-funny comedy people will play parts, to ensure this movie sucks to high heaven

I think that Mathew Fox could play Paul Depodesta,

Since you left James Franco & Danny McBride off this list, I will look the other way as you lie about the funny brought by Seth Rogen

danny mcbride! I should have included him. Totally unfunnny.
Can we get Rob Schnieder and some of the guys from Blue Collar Comedy tour in there too? preferably the huge stupid one, but Engvall will do.
James Franco is the only thing that made Pineapple Express almost slightly, in the tiniest bit redeemable. Him crying while choking down a cheeseburger was the best part of that movie, hands down.
Who can Dane Cook play? Maybe that other unfunny guy from Employee of the Month.
Whats Jamie Kennedy doing, can he play Adam Kennedy?
oh and if we could include this guy as well
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/DJQualls.jpg
then it would just be the most suck-tastic movie of all time. Jon Heder can cameo as Doc Halladay?
WAIT - if it was rewritten by the people that made Epic Movie and Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans and Superhero Movie and Date Movie and all that trash? Then we'd have a suckfest of unprecedented ginormousness

This was a failure from the start. How the Hell do you make a compelling movie out of Moneyball? It simply wasn't EVER going to work.

It hasn't even been made...
I agree it doesn't look great by just looking at the actors, but...really? We're already going to declare this movie as terrible?

How is it possibly going to work? Seriously? Any movie just following the book is going to sell about 327 tickets in total and lose a fortune. So they have to make it funnier or whatever else they can do to try to amp it up, and that's just going to collapse the entire thing. This had mess written all over it the instant it was optioned by a studio.

It seems to me this would have been a whole lot better as an HBO series or mini-series. Kind of like a T.V. version of a Mogul Dynasty.

Actually...yeah, it may have made for a decent HBO/Showtime type production.

He was until DePodesta refused to allow his name to be used. (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-depodestamoneyball080510)

Considering the version is highly fictionalized, I don't even think that they could really be seen as the same person. Which is probably why they were so willing to change the character name.

Anyway, looking at the trailer, I can see it working. Keep in mind, a movie just won Best Picture despite being solely about a dude talking.

I see where Royce Clayton is playing Miguel Tejada...So, the natural question is...Who's gonna be his hitting extra?
Also haven't seen who's playing J.P. Ricciardi, if he shows up in the movie, but there can only be one choice:

John Turturro. He certainly has the schnozz and the heritage for it.

I heard the Green Lantern was the cinematic equivalent of a partial-birth abortion.

It's been getting slammed by critics, but most fan reviews I've read have been good. And everyone of my friends who has seen it enjoyed it. I don't really see where there were any glaring issues. Overall it was put together very well and the acting was good. There were a few moments where if you didn't at least have a working knowledge of the Green Lantern you'd be like "wtf", but it didn't really hinder the movie too much. I'd recommend seeing it, if for no other reason than so you can pass judgment yourself.

It's certainly no X-Men First Class. That movie effing ruled.
