One of the things that turned me off a couple years ago was reading about how the CPU wouldn't use a two-RB system in this game. Every NFL fan knows that aside from like 10 workhorse backs who carry the ball 300+ a season (IF they stay health) most teams split carries between two backs at least somewhat. Coupled with no in-game fatigue, this was a huge sim-buster for me. So, I spent this weekend (or whatever time I could find in it) to re-do the rushing folders of the playbooks, to create several different playbooks that can be assigned to teams in order to create some sort of split between the top 2 RBs using the "3rd Down Sets" which bring in RB2. Now of course this will not be perfect if you play every game out, because the situations in which a team will use RB1 vs. RB2 will be basically random (right? i confess i don't really know how much play-calling AI is programmed in), but within one game and an entire season if you just look at the boxscore the carries should come out about right (if there are no injuries).
I hope they are self-explanatory, but I will provide a little description:
"90" is the heaviest workload, so 9/10 plays in both the inside and outside folders will be for the starter, and the other one will be for RB2.
"85 Inside" has 9/10 plays for the starter in the inside folder, and 8/10 for him in the outside folder (so "85 outside" is the opposite).
"75 Goal Line" is basically like "75 Outside," there is an extra carry in the inside folder for RB2 if he is a bruiser.
NOTE: I removed all of the QB and FB runs from these playbooks when I started in order to get these #s of carries, so there are the following playbooks included if that bugs you:
"60-20-20qb" means 6 in each folder for RB1, 2 for RB2, and 2 for the QB (vick)... I was going to do something similar for Cam Newton in Carolina but it's late and you would have to change his ratings anyways, he's 3rd on the depth chart with the default rosters!
"60-30-10fb" is a 60-30 split and then the fb gets one play in each folder for GB (kuhn) and NE (faulk or morris), etc.
another NOTE: these are NOT the default running plays!!! I basically re-worked the entire playbook at "90" to try to (literally) hit all the holes and use formations evenly (i think i started off with 2 Pro, 2 "I", one each of H-Back and Double TE (both 2TE sets), and then a couple of shotgun and ace each, but i didn't necessarily stick to those as i went down the line towards "60"). I think I did a pretty good job staying between what I saw in the default plays and using my own knowledge as an avid fan and former freshmen football coach :) it was obviously a labor of love
all passing plays are entirely untouched and are therefore the default passing plays and the same for every playbook (i'm a big ten guy, 3 yards and a cloud of dust baby)
the sad thing is i've hardly played the game yet... when i do begin i plan on pouring through the results to see if any of these plays just totally suck (according to the game engine anyways ;) ) so if anyone is interested in updates feel free to post and let me know, I was thinking about at least a couple of defensive playbooks for some variety as the next step... would also love to hear your results if you use any of them
and thanks Clay for making this game free and giving me a chance to mess around with these... you'll be hearing from my boss and my wife soon (j.k)
