View Full Version : Tough to run in mogul?

Do you have trouble running the ball in mogul mode? Seems really difficult, even with a great back and great linemen, to have a consistent running game. The only way I can consistently gain yards on the ground is to take a halfback who's big and can block and turn him into a fullback and run inside draws on third-and-long, where you can consistently rip off 40-yard plays against blitzes and deep zones.
Is it a problem with how some of the default runs are designed? I've been tweaking and having receivers block downfield instead of running routes, not sure if this matters or not.

I haven't even moved up to Mogul level yet and I'm having trouble establishing a good running game.
Currently, my RB has a 93 Rushing level with 4.33 40-speed, thru 33 games of his career he is averaging 3.82 yards/carry.
He is by the best RB that I've had thus far in my dynasty. How bad does your yards/carry get in Mogul mode?

In Mogul Mode running the football is definitely rough sledding - I have played on this level a long time and have had stretch runs where I could run the ball with O-Linemen, TE's and WR's with 90+ blocking and gain 4.5+ per carry then all of a sudden a drop-off occurs and I am struggling at 3.5 and below - the game definitely makes it interesting

Right now, I'm running a 2011 Vikings franchise. Peterson has stats similar to the guy jacadavi mentioned -- 93 rushing, sub-4.40 speed. I built the line up into big run blockers, got TWO tight ends and a FB who can block as well as a decent deep passing game and he's had a couple of years at 3.4 yards per carry.
One thing is certain -- the overall grade a certain defensive call has against the offensive play seems to matter a ton, even if the matchups seem to dictate otherwise. However, it seems far easier to beat pass defenses with passes than run defenses with runs, at least for me.

I managed to squeeze some decent seasons out of Peterson at about 3.9-4.1 yards per clip.
I developed a blocking tight end with a 98 rating, and traded for another who blocked in the 90s. I run probably 60% of my plays out of the 2 TE or H-Back formation (with No. 1 TE in as the HB). It also helps that both tight ends can catch and I have a good speed receiver on the outside. A lot of the plays I run are off-tackle plays with the TE in a "downfield block" mode instead of just "run block." This seems to help a bit.
Against a lot of teams, I can establish the pass early and use Peterson on a lot of draw plays. Then, with the defense playing against the pass a lot, you manage to get some big gains.
