View Full Version : Limit on team choice

Currently, we allow each beta tester to control three teams (in 3 different leagues). But we are preventing owners from controlling the same team (e.g. Boston) so that everyone gets a decent chance at running the more popular teams.
Now that you've played for a while, does this make sense?

I wouldn't select the same team more than once even if I could.

I think that it is more fun to have a variety of teams. I fully agree with the decision.

Good question. Maybe we'll base our limits, if any, on the Tier Rankings (http://www-1.sportsmogul.com/bb/Help/Scoring.htm)

As I heard other managers say, there is no DOMINACE in the game, Boson's good, but they get less mogul points than Minnisota do for winning a championship, so there is no need to prevent owners having the SAME teams

Have those Tier rankings been updated in the game? Because I still get more points for winning with Colorado than I do with Toronto.

If not then they will be updated shortly.

I see a possible problem associated with ranking teams by their divisional finish. What happens when a particular division is considerably stronger than the balance of the league. A 4th place team in a strong division with say 85+ wins, could be a 2nd place team in a weaker division. I think that after the playoff bound teams, the remainder of the teams should be ranked against the entire league. Any other thoughts?

Have you considered giving prizes based on point totals? Perhaps the top 10 point totals for the month could win a t-shirt. Looking at the point system, I would take a lower tier team for such an incentive.

When it becomes pay for play, people should be able to play whomever they want - obviously.
Here in Beta, I don't think it makes that much difference. I think that most of the dedicated Beta Testers are playing a variety of teams by choice.
Unless you've had a huge outrcry, I would not change anything.;)

I think the way it is now is good. This is supposed to be a beta test, so it is better to have managers use different teams, so they can find more bugs in the game. Also, they will have a better feel for the game when the pay version starts.

I know right now many players do not play for the mogul points, thus, the 1st tier teams seem to have all the advantages and winning all the time. How about this, when the real game starts, let only the 30(whatever # that should fit) highest mogul point players to be commissioner of leagues. If that does not make sense, at least, there should be a leader board for mogul points.

Why should ppl be able to manage the same team. Trying to find a team thats stable is impossible and they are always Minnesota, San Diego, Kansas City.

I enjoy playing with the underdogs..you have to learn some self control. You cannot sign every free agent out there..I usually bid on 2nd tier free agents or only start bidding in March once all the madness of the superstar bidding is done..In FastSim 36 as Montreal I am ranked #1 with the following ratings...
Year Attendance Revenue Profit W-L Finish Mogul Points
2001 2,121,999 259 54 70-92 4th (NL East) 450
2002 2,412,143 282 86 92-70 3rd (NL East) 600
2003 3,304,348 307 13 103-59 World Champion 4,500
2004 3,309,428 337 70 98-64 NLDS Winner 1,800
2005 3,378,786 362 94 100-62 1st (NL East) 1,500
2006 2,317,984 401 58 104-58 1st (NL East) 1,500
2007 2,523,505 418 49 106-56 NL Champion 3,000
Average 2,766,884 338 61 81-58 -- 1,907
Running the same team in every league, well, would end up getting boring, that is how I look at it. Getting people a chance to play a different teams seem fair. I have learned more from having to manage a small team an what I need to do with my points then I did running a large one an never really have to worry about points.

This might be where you were already planning to go, but maybe there could be tiers to the limits. Some teams might have no limits at all while others could be restricted to one or two per account.
