I think that non-playoff teams should be able to trade during the playoffs.

But wouldn't that take away a huge aspect of the trading deadline? Say you have a stud rookie, who wants 50+ points to resign. You debate whether to let him go as a FA, or trade him at the deadline. Wouldn't this totally ruin the strategy of deadline deals?

I wouldn't say it'd totally ruin it. It'd sure change it. It just seems like an aspect that could be added to increase the enjoyment of the game for 22 of the teams that want to get a move on next season.

I agree with sunzfan. There is nothing for the non-playoff teams to do which is basically a whole day at 3/days per sim. I don't see how that ruins deadline deals. The stud rookie will still need to be re-signed (by the new owner) even if traded away in October.

I'd have to agree as well. I know I hate sitting for an entire day (or more if it stops just right) with nothing to do if I'm eliminated from the playoffs.

I agree with Tom. It would take a lot of away from the trading deadline... why would anyone trade a player in a contract year at the deadline just to get something in return if they could just wait til the playoffs started... I understand it is boring when you don't make the playoffs, but it just doesn't make sense. It takes too much away.


The only way I could see around this is that all players in contract years on non-playoff teams get dropped when the playoffs begin, but then again that seems like more of a hassle than it's worth.

The reason it doesn't hurt the deadline is that the player stilll has to be re-signed. Therefore, it would be nearly impossible to trade this player for anything, anyway. Would you accept a trade for anything for a player demanding a 50-100 point re-sign in October?

If I was a big market and I had a lot of room in my budget and the guys an absolute stud I might. Since waiting til FA he could go higher!
