As soon as the season ends (current date November 2005), all my players who are signed through to the next year (2006) say their contract only runs through the current year (2005) on the contracts screen where I can sign and release players. When I click on their names it still says they are signed through to next year (2006) on the baseball card like window. Will I lose my players if I don't resign them before december 31st?

This is just a display bug. After the current season ends, and before the next season ends, all of your players' contracts will be displayed improperly on the contracts screen. They will all be shortened by a year.

No, you will not lose them. I think this is just a display bug, which lasts only for the length of the free agency. Your players are still signed for the lengths stated during your previous season.
I'm not sure what will happen if you sign anyone during this time. Try it and find out. After all, this is beta testing ;)
You can sign them to an extension, but be aware that you will have them for one more year than it says you offered them. If you have a mediocre ballplayer that is say 31 and a year until he becomes a FA and you want to resign him until he basically loses his skill at 34, sign him to what appears to be a 2-year contract. It will end up being a 3- year contract. Also, to take advantage of this bug, you can release a player for free if he has one year left to free agency. It comes in handy when a prospect is signed to a long, expensive contract but just never pans out.
