It seems to me, due to the rankings within a division determining the amount of mogul points awarded. That a player in a weak division has a distinct advantage which is compounded greatly by the use of an unbalanced schedule. I feel that teams should be ranked with the entire league, not just within division, possibly even creating a formula to apply the strength of schedule as a factor. Any thoughts Clay?

If you are so worried go into a weak division. Like the American League West Division probably the weakest in the game and for teams.

or if you like a challenge try playing toronto or tampa bay.
Playing against big whigs like new york and Boston then stomping them with your lowly payroll.:D
I guess it all depends on your preferences, but all that really matters is world series rings and not mogul ratings.
I like the challenge of taking montreal, tampa bay or florida to a world series now that takes skill:cool:

I do NOT agree!!
Winning world series rings is not all that really matters in this game. What matters is getting the most you can with what you have to work with. The awarding of mogul points is the best chance we have in this game to show who is doing a good job and who is not. Unfortunatly every time anyone posts on here some suggestion on how to alter the mogul point system for the better, we always get a reply about how winning the world series is all that matters.
I think when this program was writen, that mogul points were intended to be the measure of how well we play the game. I hope that Clay or someone will respond to this with their pont of view.

How about play for fun :)
I just like to play my favorite teams and see how I do with them. I have to admit my favorite teams are all tier 1 or 2 teams. I also like to see players play out their careers. In the CD-version I keep track of all-time stat leaders, make all century teams, and develop an attachment to players that are totally ficticious.
I do like the Mogul points for rating GM's. I don't think the system currently in place is perfect. Teams in smaller divisions do have advantages. I think a system based on winning percentage modified by financial ability(like the CD-version) is a good way to go.
One of the things that isn't very realistic about the game that would be difficult to duplicate is that team ownership changes and their financial ability changes. The financial ability of each team is just a snap shot of where they are at in 2001. It would be nice if each team's financial ability had the ability to change in time. This would include owners moving teams to new cities, building new stadiums, renovating old stadiums, and selling to new ownership.
If the game added these features rating teams by a tier level wouldn't work unless teams could change tier levels.
I started rambling...

I looked at their new Tier rankings and I think they are pretty fair. They have not been implemented in the game yet though. Under the old rankings Colorado was a Tier 4 city (which when you think about it is ridiculous considering their revenue) under the new rankings they are Tier 2. Seattle, your example of a team in a weak divison is now, which has much less revenue than Colorado and most other Tier 2 cities (and even less than Toronto if Toronto is played properly) is now also Tier 2. Toronto is now Tier 3 whereas before they were Tier 2, so I think they have taken the strength of divisions into account in the new rankings. But as I said before the new rankings don't seem to be implemented in the game code yet.
I also agree, that the game is not all about winning the World Series, it's about making the most of your team.

I personally like the tier 1 teams. With that said, I completely support the tier rankings and the mogul point system. As a NY team, I have an unfair advantage. Do you think that it is a coincidence that the Yankees have won so many World Series? Just because I win with the Mets, Yankees or Braves doesn't mean that I am a good owner.
I have previously suggested that, when the game goes live, there should be prizes for the most mogul points. For example, free t-shirts for the owners with the highest average mogul points for the month, or even free access. This would encourage people like me to rethink our perspective, and strive to make a team like Tampa Bay into a respectible 2nd or 3rd place team.
