My closer just pitched 3 innings in a game I was losing by 4 runs when he entered the game. I think it would be more useful if he pitched in games I was winning by a narrow margine. Now he needs 3 days of rest when I could really use him.

Last time I saw a closer pitch 3 innings was Jose Mesa for the Cleveland Indians in a playoff game against the Braves.

I think a closer should only enter the game in a few situations.
1. closers team is winning by 1-4 runs going into the 9th inning.
2. closers team is winning by 1-2 runs going into the 8th inning only in an important game(division rival, playoff implications, postseason game).
3. game is tied and closers team is at home going into the top of the 9th inning.
4. extra inning game use whatever pitchers you need.

Just some thoughts...

Maybe your closer went in for so many innings because all your relievers were unrested. I really would like to see an expanded bullpen in this game.

My closer once started a game and pitched a complete game 4 hit shutout. But I guess he did so well because he was a Met.: If he had been a Cardinal, I'm sure he would have bombed.:)

The term closer is very strict in baseball mogul. If you put a closer in the 9th inning and the game goes into extra innings the closer always plays the rest of the game. So if there was 17 innings the closer would play 8 innings which is ridiculous. This bug has been reported but failed to be fixed.

I don't think this information is exactly correct. I can't say whether or not it was a bug in the past but I can assure you that my closer WAS pulled in extra inning games. The game has even gone as far as putting one of my starters in after my closer in a 21 inning game. The only major bug I have seen in pitching is incorrectly scoring of wins/saves and lack of saves in games.
