I get a popup every 15 seconds or so asking if I want to install their flash player.

I do NOT want this installed on my computer.

Is there a way to keep this popup from appearing?

PLEASE!

This is VERY annoying.

I don't see why I should be badgered into installing software I don't want on my computer....

:(

Also, our computers at work prohibit installing any software on them. I would think this includes flash software. In my opinion, just saying NO once should be sufficient. Several times in the space of a minute is just plan harrassment.

I figured that this is a "feature" that is somehow tied to security.

I had my security set to "prompt" for signed ACTIVEX controls.

When I changed that to DISABLE I no longer get the message. Now I get a warning "Your security settings prohibit running ACTIVEX controls on this page. As a result, your page may not display properly".

I hit ok and everything is fine. The bad news is I have to hit OK several times per minute. Slightly less annoying that the former situation.

Hi, George -

I'm sorry the pop-ups are annoying you.

I think they are because of the "rich-media" ads that some of our advertisers are running. They use Flash because it's generally ubiquitous and harmless, but it allows them to do more visually interesting things without significantly increasing the download size of the banner ad.

Most people already have Flash installed. I believe it a standard pre-installed option on most computers.

So if you want to allow Flash to install itself, I think it would probably be okay with your IT department. It's not like you are installing pirated software or complex software that might break the network. If you have questions, I would encourage you to shoot a quick email to your IT department -- I think they will probably say it's okay.

And, in fact, you may already have Flash installed -- just an earlier version that is trying to upgrade to the new Flash 6.0. In this case, I'm confident that you can install it.

I'm not saying this because I want you to see the ads, I just want your life to be a little easier, and I think installing Flash will do that for you. A lot of other sites use it as part of the site content, not just the ads.

Email if you have questions,
James

James

Thanks for the speedy response.

I hate to say it, but some of those ads are REALLY annoying.

I guess the issue for me is that the computer is MY computer and I should be able to say NO I don't want something and not be pestered.

Having said that, maybe you're right and I should choose the path of least resistance. Somehow I can't seem to get over the idea that they can force something on me just by pestering me to death...

Again, I thank you for your response and understand that this is not a Sports Mogul issue.
