I personally have enjoyed the mogul challenge leauges one hundred times more than any other league I've been in. They've been the most competitive leauges that I've been in to date.
Why have they been the most competetive?
In my opinion, there is the hope of a reward. In leagues where owners don't even talk to each other, there is no reward. Bragging rights are worthless if there is no one to brag to.
Leagues that start out well die when there is no reward for staying on. Want owners to hang around? Give them a reason to.
Lets play for something! In the Challenge finals, I may only be playing for a copy of a football game, a very good football game, but winning and getting that prize and knowing you are the only one who did is the sweetest feeling.
More if not all of these leagues need to have prizes. I would have no problem paying a little extra on my membership to pay for winning incentives. Even if I never won, my obsessive behavior, which is typical of fantasy baseball players, would keep me going, never losing sight of the prize.
The possibilities are enormous! Have an annual prize like a big screen tv. Tickets to baseball games. Or even small things like copies of your wonderful products, coupons off of future products, t-shirts autographed by the design teams (hot item!).
:D
Maybe you could design a player with our names attached to it. Or give us the ability to change the name of a Farm hand. I would love that!
And here is a real favorite. Let's play for money! Give prizes every five or ten seasons. They don't have to be big. You could even give free months of membership. That would be worth cash to me.
These are just some ideas. This is what would motivate me and I'm sure many others to stay in leagues more than a few seasons.
With a more rewarding online game, I feel that you would draw a larger customer base. Even though it does complicate things it would be worth it.
Hek, if I knew I could win a copy of Mogul 2K4 signed by the design team, I'd be in it to win it Baby!
