Here's the deal. Rey Ordonez has a 23 point contract. It has one more year left. That season has not started yet. Before, I could release this person for zippo during this offseason. Now I can't. PLEASE HELP ME! I have planned my whole strategy through two seasons so that I could release these people. Now, I am on the beach, waiting for high tide. IF THIS IS A CHANGE IT IS NASTILY ABRUPT!

Yeah, this change pretty much messed up a lot of my plans in Kohut's NABL too. But I do agree with the change, even though it has meant another season of near 0 profit for me.

CLAY this move SUCKS! You've been doing a great job, but you could have given a weks notice or something before changing this salary feature. I wouldn't have made some of the trades I did. I made these trades confident that I could get out of the contracts a year early, but not now I can't. I hate to tell you this but I really feel betrayed. This is a major change to a major facet of the game, and it was sprung on everyone with no warning. Sorry, but this sucks. A little warning would have been nice.

This is just tryinig to make the game more realistic, you have to be responsible to the players you sign now, no freebies.

If you read the Beta Testing forum you would have known. :o
You're the defending champs you can at least calm down.

I DO read the Beta Testing Forum. It must have just slipped through. By the way I am much calmer. I have taken stock of the situation and I am sure I can still be a contender, it will just be a few years before I'm a World Series contender again. I was just really mad that I lost 2 or 3 years of GMing. I think I can wiggle out of it now. I just made a very beneficial trade with Cleveland.

I think this change made things less realistic. I though maybe the last year was sort of an option year for the team, most contracts are like that with the team holding an option in the last season to retain his rights or let him go to FA.

As a beta tester I don't feel it is Clay's responsibility to warn us of changes to the game. I would like to see him post what he expects from the game. I know he expects us to test his game, then give him our opinions and report things that aren't working the way they are intended.

It's part of beta testing that certain dynamics of the game change on a regular basis. I don't think Clay owes us any apologies or explanations.

If a feature is going to be changed, then I think some advance warning is warrented. But, if a bug is fixed, I don't think that warrents any advanced warning.

For example, are they monkeying with the way that rookies are added to the game? Are they making changes that will effect the hitting/pitching stats?

Those are some of the things that I think that we need to know, as beta testers.

this is called beta testing for a reason: we are testing the game for bugs and glitches and usability. we are not paying customers, and our main goal for playing isn't supposed to be to win: its to help polish the game so it is the best it can be when it is a paying game.

this messed up my plans as well, but in MLB can you do it? NO. It just makes the game unrealistic, and I think it is a good change (once the initial anger got over with).

If you want to blame soemoen for this error blame me!
I had requested this be fixed so that idiot GM's dont go out signing players then try to release them after a year or two. I hope they make the computer smarter so the dumb GM's can learn from their lessons instead of dealing the player away for nothing or in some cases abandoning the team. Now that my 1st goal was accomplished I will focus on computer teams intelligence.
I have yet to check out the lowering in player demands but I also was told they are not so drastic as in the past where players will by March ask for 1/7 of their original asking price.

But getting back to this blaming Clay is like blaming Bill Gates for calling Windows, Windows in the first place. This isnt his department. This item HAS been repaired in the retail version and Ian updated the simulator for us. Personally I was set to release Carl Everett making 40 points but Id rather this happened than others manipulating it. My only suggestion is that teams in the red be able to release players whenever. Taking over a team deep in the hole is not very entertaining when it takes years to get out of the hole when their salary is 1700 as opposed to releasing everyone and getting down to 30. Like previously mentioned we are hear to test the game, enjoy it and offer ideas NOT criticism. If you want to criticize the program buy a copy and then worry about it.

BTW this is very much realistic now. If you are a smart GM its not that big of a deal to buy out a player. Heck Ive had 1000 points with my other teams and 1 of them was San Fransisco who isnt a money tree.

First, I was not blaming Clay. My thread did say "Clay, someone". Clay is just the man in charge for the most part. I figured any comments should at least be aimed in his general direction. I am actually pleased with the change in the sense that it DOES make the game more real. There will be much less player shifting going on now. I just got extremely ticked that my 2 weeks (2 years in FastSim) of planning, from before the season started to before the third season, was, for the most, part futile. I really got p---ed off. You can tell from my original thread. As many have pointed out, it is our place to test this out. We are the proverbial guinea pigs. I apologize for my outburst, it was a knee-jerk reaction to being flabbergasted by having my knees cut out from under me, BY MY OWN SHORTSIGHTEDNESS. It was as much my fault as anybody's. I got a plan and virtually abandoned all other avenues, then when that avenue was blocked, I was in cul-de-sac. It appeared the only way for me to go was backward, and after winning the WS (in an active GM league no less), that was not a pleasant course of action. I have weathered the storm with a few well placed trades, and in 2 years I will be almost all the way back to normal. All I am trying to do in the meantime is contend for the playoffs and rack up Mogul Points.
