I just wrapped up a season with a 10-6 record, tied with another team for the last playoff spot. I played the team that I was tied with and beat them, and yet they still got the playoff spot.
The first tie-breaker is supposed to be head-to-head matchups, isn't it?

No, the first tie-braker is the division record
(regardless if you are in the same division or not)

Well, obviously the game uses that, but according to the NFL, the first tie-breaker rule is always head-to-head matchups, regardless of whether or not the teams are in the same division.
