View Full Version : Change how fastsims are simulated

Some ideas to make the fastsim leagues more interactive and GM friendly.

Start out the leagues the same as they are currently initiated.

Once the league is started use this pattern.

Day 1: Simulate April-May
Day 2: Simulate June-July
Day 3: No simulations to allow for trades before trading deadline
Day 4: Simulate August-September
Day 5: Simulate October and November if necessary (allow time to resign/release players)
Day 6: Get your draft picks and start free agency
Day 7: Free agency and get ready to start next season
Start over at day 1

1 simulated season is played in 1 week of real time.

Don't have 1 hour simulations during free agency, change it to 4 hours or an entire day. It is advantageous to bid on a free agent early in the bidding and get that free agent cause you were the only GM around during that 1st hour of bidding. This will allow more GM's to bid on the same players.

Personally...i like it the way it is now

It's so confusing, I like the way it is now, or if you can tell Clay to make up another simulation speed call "Bad_Ash Sim"

Bad_Ash is my hero! When I grow up, I want to be just like him! <grin>

I agree that the current Fast Sim pace is out of wack with most people's schedules.

However, from my understanding, that problem will largely be solved when they finish getting the moderator options completed. Won't the moderators be able to schedule Sims basically when ever they want to?

That would also be a boon for the "Slow" sim schedule as well. The slow sims are great for allowing you to judge your team and have more time to make trades, but after the trading deadline passes it is agony waiting for the FA draft!

I think thats too confusing. Personally, I want the fast sims to be a little faster, because after the deadline it can get really boring.

Takaplan how complicated is it? All it is is 2 months simulated a day. The 4 hour inverals are also a very clever idea. :D

I would like a schedule like that, so I know exactly when to check back for Free Agency, when to be around for the trade deadline etc. I wouldn't really mind the slightly slower pace of 1 season a week, since the current fast sim schedule is really hectic.

I am working on some schedules like this -- with more predictability as to when the trading deadline and free agency periods occur.

Also, as mentioned we are working on making these options selectable by the league or league commissioner.

I like the structure of Bad Ash's schedule...I just don't like the pace of the sim. Here is an idea:

Day 1: April, May, June
Day 2: June, July, Trade Period
Day 3: August, September, October
Day 4: Free Agency

Personally, I don't mind the current sim schedule. I wouldn't mind Bad ash's schedule as an additional type of league, but not a replacement to the current FastSim schedule.

I have been thinking about this for about a week, not so much the sim speed, but where everything is at.

I saw a very big drop off in active GM's after the "2005" sim years and beyond. (This is in some of the leagues that I have or still am playing in. ) I know it gets alot harder to have fun, an to put together a good team . When a player I know in RL is in the game, I understand that he hits for power, or speed, if he is a good pitchers or just a piece of dirt. I think by changing the sim times ( which I like a better idea when x is going to happen ) people will see more of this.

Who is the game pointed too ?
Hardcore fans, common fans or just people looking to fill in some time ?

Why do GM's leave even during beta ?

Bored, confused, unhappy , lack of time, or not knowing who is who the players are in game ?

After what point will I get bored of things ?

Why ?

After what point will the people I play with want to leave ?

Why ?

Now I know people can jump ship to other leagues and start over again. I have done that a few times myself ( winning gets old, that is why I have Detroit now..........lol ) But how many times do I or you or anyone leave a team an join a new league before it gets old ?

Ok sorry about the ramble, an the mindless post a bit. Like I said it has been something I have been thinking about for about a week.

One thing we're planning to add to the custom leagues is the ability to start the league over WITHOUT everyone having to quit and form a new league. So you could get together with 20 owners, have a blast for 7 seasons (declare a "winner" if you are so inclined) and then click a button and start over.

This is also something the owners could agree to ahead of time when forming the league.

BTW, I just added a poll (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=2980) to see how others feel about playing after 2005.

As a long term strategy player in all types of games.... I like it better when management comes in more instead of just getting the best players... I can't wait till 10 years down the road and my Florida team is pounding everyone with players noone knows....

With that said, I think some better ways to view players would be helpful.... Maybe a team view with player ratings...

You can use Find Players, and set it to view just your team. That at least lets you compare ratings, and I will set it up for stat comparison at some point.
